  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the perceived patient safety, type of errors related to patient safety, importance awareness and compliance on patient safety for operating room nurses and to identify factors influencing compliance. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire from 191 perioperative nurses. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, paired t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression. The perceived patient safety score was 6.3 as moderate level. Types of errors were mostly happened in patient injury (39.8%), counts (18.4%) and infection control (17.5%). The level of compliance on patient safety was significantly lower than that of importance awareness (t=18.01, P<.001). Compliance on patient safety showed significantly positive correlations to importance awareness (r=.56, p<.001). Experience of patient safety education, experience of errors in colleague, job position and working experience in hospital explained 13.9% of variance compliance on patient safety(F=8.407, P<.001). In conclusion, Hospital should develop education program related to patient safety, encourage nurses to manage safety protocol and ensure cultivating patient safety culture in the perioperative practice setting.

The participants of this study were 191 nurses in 5 hospitals with less than 100-300 people and collected data by self-reported questionnaire.. Data were analyzed by the SPSS 20.0 program, As a results, significant postive correlations were founded among patient safety culture awareness, patient safety attitude, self-efficacy and patient safety management activities. And factors affecting patient safety management activities of small and medium hospital nurses were patient safety attitudes, self-efficacy, and patient safety culture awareness, and the explanatory power of these variables was 41.8%. Thus, it is proposed to develop education programs that can improve patient safety attitudes, self-efficacy, and patient safety culture awareness to promote patient safety management activities of small and medium hospital nurses.

The survey was 110 nurses with in the operating room of the general hospital, using self-report questionnaire. Stepwise regression analysis were used. Older group and those with higher levels of education status were significantly associated with high scores on patient safety competence. Patient safety competence and safety management activities showed a significant positive correlation, and teamwork and safety management activities showed a significant positive correlation. Regression analysis showed that patient safety competence and awareness of teamwork had a significant impact on patient safety management activities and the explanatory power of these variables was 15.7%. In conclusion, efforts are needed to improve patient safety competence and teamwork in order to improve patient safety management activities in operating room nurse, and further studies on other variables affecting patient safety management activities are needed.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the effects on patient safety knowledge, patient safety performance confidence, and attitude toward patient safety after operating a interprofessional education program for 3 rd and 4 th grade healthcare students with clinical practice experience. We operated a interprofessional education program for 6 days, and the program consisted of job understanding, patient safety risk prediction training, and scenario-based patient safety experience. Patient safety knowledge(t=-5.01, p<.001), patient safety performance confidence(t=-6.75, p<.001), and patient safety attitude(t=-2.59, p=.013) increased statistically significantly after applying the six-day the interprofessional education program. Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to develop programs and evaluate their effectiveness by diversifying educational topics for interprofessional education program. In addition, it is necessary to expand and operate not only for university students but also for new employees working in medical facilities

  • This study aimed to investigate the awareness and performance of safety in operating room nurses. There were 161 operating room nurses from eight general hospitals included for analysis in this study. The data were analyzed with t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis, and Scheffe's test. The results show that their perception of patient safety was 3.33 out of a total of 5 points. Moreover, the score of safety management activity for patients in the operating room was 4.28 out of 5 points. As the perception of patient safety in operating room nurses was significantly correlated with their safety management activities, nurses with higher awareness of patient safety were found to have higher degree of performance of safety management activities. In conclusion, to improve safety management activities, open discussion about patient safety should be encouraged and periodic education regarding patient safety should be implemented for operating room nurses to increase the perception of patient safety.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the impact on patient safety management activities. In this study, 134 nurses from three local hospitals were investigated for patient safety culture recognition, patient safety capacity, and patient safety management activities, and the impact on patient safety management activities was thus attempted. The patient safety culture recognition level was 4.25/5, the patient safety capacity was 4.37/5, the patient safety management activity was 4.26/5, and the patient safety awareness and patient safety capability(r=.765, p<.001) and Patient Safety Capacity and Patient Safety Management Activity (r=.837, p<.001) and Patient Safety Capacity and Recognition of Patient Safety Culture(r=.728, p<.001) had a significant amount of correlation. Factors affecting patient safety management activities(β=.582, p<.001), Patient Safety Culture Recognition(β=.3632, p<.001), position(β=-.132, p=.009) Patient safety requires strengthening the capabilities of nurses and systematic training and evaluation of continuous patient safety activities.

  • This study is a descriptive research conducted to identify the factors influencing patient safety management activities of geriatric hospitals nurses and use basic data to prevent patient safety accidents. Subjects were 220 nurses and data were collected by questionnaires from february 1 to 28, 2023. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson correlation coefficients and Multiple regression analysis using the SPSS 29.0 program. Patient safety motivation was positive correlated with degree of patient safety(r=.41, p<.001), and degree of patient safety was positive correlated with patient safety nursing activity(r=.18, p<.01). Degree of patient safety(𝛽=.21, p<.001) and patient safety guidelines(𝛽=.16, p<.001) were main factors that affect patient safety nursing activity, and its explanatory power was 7.5%(Adj R2=.075, p<.001). For patient safety nursing activity, it is proposed to develop and apply a education program that strengthens practical training for effective coping after safety accidents along with risk prediction training to prevent before safety accidents.

  • As the prevention of patient safety accidents has been strengthened in the accreditation process of medical institutions, patient safety, which is the maintenance of patient safety by managing medical accidents around the patients, is considered a subject that is important as a disease cure. The purpose of this study is to develop a Patient Safety Program using simulated situations for inpatients at a general hospital ward and to understand the effects on knowledge, performance, and perception of patient safety before and after the programs. In addition, the satisfaction of patient safety education is verified after application of the program. The participants were 30 inpatients at a general hospital. Data were collected from April 15 to 30, 2019 and analyzed using IBM SPSS Version 23.0. The results of the preand post-education revealed a statistically significantly improvement of patient safety knowledge, performance, perception and educational satisfaction. The Patient Safety Education Program using simulated situation was an effective educational program for the inpatients to improve patient safety knowledge, performance, perception, and educational satisfaction. Therefore, this program demonstrated a positive effect of patient safety and it is expected that it can be used as the basis of an education program in patient safety education in a clinical setting.

  • This study is a descriptive research study to compare the safety perception between patients and nurses and to identify the factors affecting the nurses' safety management activities in tertiary hospitals. Data were collected with structured questionnaires from 147 patients and 147 nurses from a university hospital in J city, Gyeongnam, from July 24 to September 23, 2019, and analyzed using SPSS 23.0. The result showed that the patient's safety perception was significantly higher than the nurse's perception. The significant factors affecting patient management activity were nurse's educational level, position, effective communication, patient safety perception, and perception of importance on patient safety management. In the multiple regression analysis, knowledge about 'effective communication', and 'concerned about patient safety management', explained 54.8% of the nurses' patient management activity. Based on the results of this study, it is emphasized that nurses need to develop strategies to improve the communication and attention between patients and hospital members to improve patient safety management activities in tertiary hospitals.
