Development of Web-based Contents for Electromagnetics Course using Multimedia (멀티미디어를 이용한 웹 기반의 전기자기학 교재 개발)

  • Recently, the use of the internet and the web becomes universal. So, many internet applications are made by educators. In this paper, contents about the electromagnetics course which is one of the basic subjects for electrical and electronic fields are dealt. Most textbooks concerned this topic describes the phenomena in mathematical formulas. Naturally, for the students, the understanding of the phenomena is not so easy. For the improvement the educational efficiency, the multimedia techniques such as HTML, pictures, animations and sound are utilized. And also the software developed by authors is available for the analysis or the exercise of various electromagnetic problems. The contents are composed 4 parts : electrostatic fields, magnetostatic fields, time varying fields propagation of waves.

Acoustic-Resonance Reduction of Metal Halide Lamps Using Amplitude Modulation (진폭변조에 의한 메탈핼라이드 램프의 음향공명 감소)

  • In this paper, a new control method is presented to reduce acoustic resonance phenomena of metal halide lamps with electronic ballasts. A behavior of frequency controlled resonant inverter is analyzed and the transfer function is obtained. An integrator as a current controller for ballast is employed. By using both a disturbance of the lamp power and spread spectrum effects for reducing acoustic resonance, an amplitude modulation is done by using the current controller with 200[Hz] sinusoidal wave. Arc stabilities of MH 250[W] lamps are studied with changing the modulation index. Experiments with two MH 250[W] lamps, made by different manufacturers, showed the validity of the proposed method.

Three-Dimensional Numerical Analysis of Surface Buoyant Jets (표층밀도분류의 3차원 수치해석)

  • A three-dimensional numerical model with free water surface was established to investigate flow characteristics of surface buoyant jets and river plumes. Turbulent shear stresses and turbulent buoyancy fluxes were expressed in terms of the eddy viscosities and diffusivities. Stable stratification effects due to density difference between discharged water and receiving ambient water were taken into with empirical formulae. Through a comparison of numerical results with published experimental data the validity of the model was shown and the optimal stratification functions was determined The three-dimensional spreading characteristics were examined and the effects of inlet densimetric Froude number, inlet aspect ratio and water surface elevation on the flow development were discussed.

  • In the general manual feeder of an LED lighting assembly system, many workers are needed to supply parts to the main conveyor. The automatic feeder for modern automation lighting assembly systems consists of a completely automated feeding system and a magazine system that supplies the parts automatically. A standardized LED panel and diffusion cover is stacked in the cartridge of the magazine system. The structural safety of the automatic feeding system with regard to handling the load from the panels and covers stored in the cartridge should be guaranteed. LED convergency lighting modules are assembled using two LED panels and one diffusion cover in an automatic feeder. In this study, the structural safety and fatigue life of the automatic feeder and magazine were analyzed by considering the load generated in the automatically assembled LED convergency lighting system. In addition, the dynamic behavior of each auto-feeding system and magazine delivery system was visualized, and the working process was evaluated via dynamic simulation using a virtual engineering method. A tack time table for automatic feeding systems was derived by developing a virtual prototype.

Soret effect on the convective instability in binary nanofluids (Soret 효과를 고려한 이성분 나노유체에서의 대류 불안정성 해석)

  • The objective of the present study is to study the Soret effect of both nanoparticles and solute on the convective instabilities in binary nanofluids. A new stability criterion is obtained based on the linear stability theory. The results show that the Soret effect of solute(${\psi}_{bf}$) makes the binary nanofluids unstable significantly and the convective motion in a binary nanofluid sets in easily as the ratio of Soret coefficient of nanofluid to that of binary basefluid ${\delta}_4$ increases for ${\delta}_4$ > -1. It is also found that as an increase of the volume fraction of nanoparticles, nanofluid becomes stable but at a separation ratio of ${\psi}=-0.3$ the state of fluid changes from stable to unstable.

  • Time spread due to the multipath in underwater acoustic channel, induces ISI (Inter-Symbol Interference) which degrades the performance of the underwater acoustic communication system. The passive phase conjugation (PPC) which improves the signal to multipath interference ratio (SMR) and therefore reduces the frequency selectivity. is a diversity communication technique giving a less ISI under multipath fading channel. Its frequency selectivity depends on the number of receiver array sensors and time varying source to receiver range. In this study, frequency selectivity of the PPC and its effects on bit error of underwater acoustic communication is analyzed by numerical simulation.

Combustion Synthesis of Fibrous Silicon Carbide (고온연소합성을 이용한 섬유형 탄화규소의 합성)

  • 장경비가 큰 탄화규소를 탄소와 규소간의 고온연소반응으로 제조하기 위하여 공정변수에 따른 연소거동과 미세조직의 변화를 조사하였다. 연소합성된 생성물은 주로 $\beta$-SiC이며 연소반응이 충분히 진행되지 못하였을 경우에는 미량의 잔류 반응물과 $\alpha$-SiC가 관찰되었다. 생성된 탄화규소의 평균입도는 약 5$\mu\textrm{m}$로 작았으며, $1300^{\circ}C$ 이상의 예열 조건에서 장경비가 30이상인 탄화규소를 합성할 수 있었다. 압분 강도가 69MPa인 분말의 성형체에서 평균 연소 온도와 평균 전파 속도는 각각 약 $1425^{\circ}C$와 2.1mm/sec 범위이며, 연소 온도는 흑연 분말을 사용하였을 경우가 탄소 섬유를 사용한 경우보다 약 $10^{\circ}C$ 높았다. 연소 반응을 임의로 중단시킨 시편의 계면을 EDX와 Auger 전자 현미경으로 분석한 결과 상호 확산층이 관찰되지 않았다. 이는 탄화규조의 연소합성이 용해-석출 모델에 의하여 진행됨을 시사한다. 예열 온도에 따른 연소 반응 중의 온도 분포를 유한 요소법으로 해석함으로써 $2500^{\circ}C$의 초기 연소 개시 온도에 대하여 예열 온도 $300^{\circ}C$에서는 연소파가 거의 전파할 수 없으며 예열 온도가 $1300^{\circ}C$에서는 시료 내부에 자체 전파가 가능한 $2000^{\circ}C$이상의 온도 구역이 존재함을 알았다.

Prediction of Moisture Migration of Concrete Including Internal Vaporization in Fire (화재시 내부증발을 고려한 콘크리트의 수분이동)

  • Moisture evaporates, when concrete is exposed to fire, not only at concrete surface but also at inside the concrete to adjust the equilibrium and transfer properties of moisture. The equilibrium properties of moisture are described by means of water vapor sorption isotherms, which illustrate the hysteretical behavior of materials. In this paper, the prediction method of the moisture distribution inside the concrete members at fire is presented. Finite element method is employed to facilitate the moisture diffusion analysis for any position of member. And the moisture diffusivity model of high strength concrete by high temperature is proposed. To demonstrate the validity of this numerical procedure, the prediction by the proposed algorithm is compared with the test result of other researcher. The proposed algorithm shows a good agreement with the experimental results including the vaporization effect inside the concrete.

A study of optimism level in the sifted (영재들의 낙관성 수준에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to inverstigate the optimism level of the gifted; to verify the differences in optimism level according to the types of the gifted; and to compare the optimism level of the gofted with that of mainstream students. 332 high school students participated in this study. They consisted of 45 science of gifted, 50 athletics gifted, 60 music gifted, 60 art gifted, 57 academic gifted, and 60 mainstreams students. The findings of this study were as follows: First, the optimism level of gifted was somewhat pessimistic. Second, the optimism levels of academic gifted and sciencd gifted was higher than that of athletic gifted and artistic gifted. Third, nonsignificant difference was found in the optimism level between gifted students and mainstream students.

  • The qualitative and quantitative prediction for the dispersion of thermal discharge from nuclear / fossil power plant, steel works etc. has significant roles for the cooling system. Design and environmental management. In this study, the several important physical properties for the behavior of a thermal discharge with strong turbulent and buoyant effects are described. The comparative evaluation between MIT and PDS models is carried out, which have the different model structures. In general, MIT and PDS models are commonly used to calculate the thermal discharge behavior with considering the ambient current and the angle of jet in an unstratified water body. The simulated results by these models have great discrepancies due to the different assumptions in modling.
