Diffusion of Sodium Chloride in Chinese Cabbage during Salting (배추의 염절임중 소금의 확산에 관한 연구)

  • The diffusivity of sodium chloride in Chinese cabbage was evaluated from its absorption data obtained by immersing the cabbage stalk in a salt solution. By using least squares method, the absorption and desorption diffusivity of NaCl in the cabbage stalk have been estimated to be $1.7{\times}10^{-11}$ and $11.6{\times}10^{-11}m^2/s$, respectively. The apparent diffusivity was not strongly dependent on the concentration of brine and the variety of Chinese cabbage. The influence of temperature on the apparent diffusivity could be expressed as the Arrhenius type equation, in which the activation energy was estimated to be 66 KJ/mol.

  • As the corrosion of reinforcing bar in concrete structures exposed to chloride attack is one of main factors to determine the remaining service life, marine concrete structures have to be designed to protect the chloride penetration. Among the durability design methods such as deterministic method and probabilistic method, design method based on the probabilistic theory has been widely studied. However, the most essential material, data of the material properties related to chloride diffusion, are still insufficient. In this paper, the probabilistic distribution of chloride diffusion coefficients and aging coefficients are derived by the experiment and analysis for the chloride coefficients of concrete containing pozzolans, which are generally used in marine structures.

  • We studied sea water pollution by opening the water gate of Bunam Lake in Seosan City. SS and COD were simulated. If we control the flow rate to 100ton/s, and the gate opening time to 3 hours, SS of 50ppm can be clear with in 19hours. Also, COD of 8ppm can flow for 1 hour without damaging total sea water(COD less than 2ppm). Thus, If we control the flow rate and flow time, the fish cultivation will be free from danger of water pollution.

  • 국내·외 유해화학물질 유출로 인한 하천오염사례가 많이 일어나고 있다. 이때 수질의 농도측정은 직접 도섭으로 하천의 정보 대한 정보를 취득하기 어렵기 때문에 간접적인 방법으로의 정보취득이 중요시 되어야 한다. 그에 따른 방법으로 주입식의 표면부자를 활용한 방법 이용한 수질농도 측정방법 등이 있다. 하지만 이런 농도추정은 이동확산으로 인한 변위가 커지게 되어 시간간격 설정에 대한 어려움 등이 있고, 수질오염에 대한 추적이 가능할 수 있을지에 대한 분석연구가 필요하다. 따라서 이러한 수질농도의 대한 분석을 실시하여 고성능 GPS전자부자를 이용한 추적이 필요하다. Lab-Scale에서 GPS 전자부자를 이용하여 수질정보취득에 일반항목인 수온, PH, EC, DO을 측정함으로써 일반항목에 대한 상관관계와 그에 따른 관계곡선을 제시하고, 고성능 GPS 전자부자를 이용한 측정결과와 YSI를 이용한 측정결과를 비교분석하여 농도경향에 대한 추적으로 오염물질이나 유해화학물질의 정보전달을 통해 원인분석 및 예상경로를 파악할 수 있다. 또한 간접적인 측정을 통해 진행되고 실시간으로 정보를 취득할 수 있기 때문에 수질측정에 접근성 및 안정성 까지 확보할 수 있다. 더 나아가 홍수시 사용뿐만 아니라 기본에 사용되는 수질측정 방법의 한계점까지 보완할 수 있다. GPS 전자부자의 지속적인 연구는 향후 하천 측정 시스템에 많은 도움을 줄 것으로 사료된다.

A Study on Gravity Penetration of Fumigants in the Jumbo Silo (대형싸이로에 있어서 훈증제의 수직적 침투력)

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the vertical penetration and diffusion of fumigants for soybean disinfection in jumbo silo. The results were as follows, 1. Using the methylbromide independently as a soybean fumigant, penetration and diffusing velocity of methylbromide gas which moved from the top to the bottom through the vertica1 silo was too rapidly, it was possible to find out more 60mg/l of methylbromide gas concentration at bottom of silo within 4 hours after beginning the fumigation. And it showed the tendency of reducing methylbromide gas concentration gradually over the 10 hours from tile beginning the fumigation. 2. In case of added $CO_2$ gas to the methylbromide as a carrier is much more rapid velocity of penetration and diffusion of methylbromide gas than that of methylbromide gas independently. Therefore methylbromide gas concentration at bottom of silo was detected over the 70mg/l within 1.5 hours after beginning the fumigation.. 3. On the other hand, hence the phostoxin as a soybean fumigant was less velocity of Penetration and diffusion of the gas through the vertical silo compare to methylbromide gas, the phostoxin gas concentration couldn't detect over the 10mg/1 during the whole fumigation period at the bottomside of silo. 4. Test insects (rice weevil; sitophilus oryzae. L.) inserted at bottom of silo for examine the fumigation effect were killed completly by using the methylbromide independently and added $CO_2$ gas to methylbromide, while using the phostoxin the test insects were most alive.

Experimental Study on Chloride Penetration into Concrete under Combined Exposure Conditions of Chlorides and High Concentrated Sulfates (고농도 황산염 이온이 함께 존재하는 경우의 염소이온 침투특성에 관한 실험 연구)

  • Recently, the durability of concrete structures has received great attention as the number of sea-side structures, such as new airport, bridges, and nuclear power plants, increases continuously. In this regards, many studies have been done on the chloride attack in concrete structures. However, those studies were confined mostly to the single deterioration due to chloride only, although actual environment is rather of combined type. The purpose of the present study is, therefore, to explore the effects of combined deterioration due to chlorides and sulfates in concrete structures. To this end, comprehensive experimental program has been set up to observe the chloride penetration behavior for various test series. The test results indicate that the chloride penetration is more pronounced for the case of combined attack than the case of single chloride attack. The surface chloride content is found to increase with time and the diffusion coefficient for chloride is found to decrease with time. The prediction equations for surface chloride content and diffusion coefficient were proposed according to test results. The equations for chloride penetration considering the time-dependent diffusion coefficients and surface chlorides were also suggested. The present study allows more realistic assessment of durability for such concrete structures which are subjected to combined attacks of chlorides and high concentration sulfates but the future studies for combined environment will assure the precise assessment.

A Study on the Circulating Water Purification System using Oxygen Solubilization and Diffusion Device (산소용해수와 확산장치를 결합한 순환형 수질정화 장치의 검증)

  • 자연수를 가압(4~5기압)하면서 물과 공기의 비를 4:1~3:1로 혼합하면 수체 내 초미세기포(Diameter $3{\sim}10{\mu}m$)가 발생하는데 이를 산소용해수라 하며 수질정화시설 또는 양식장 등에 널리 사용되고 있다. 산소용해수의 특징은 기포의 비표면적이 넓고 10시간 이상 포화 농도를 유지하여 수체에 잔류하는 시간이 길기 때문에, 일반 산기석을 활용한 포기나 순산소 용해 등의 타 방법과 구별된다. 산소용해수의 산소전달효율은 기존 방법과 큰 차이를 보이기 때문에 실제 적용시에는 대상수를 이용하여 산소전달계수($K_{L}a$)를 사전에 산정할 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서는 한국건설기술 연구원의 안동 수자원 환경실험센터 내 실외형 콘크리트 사각반응수조에 산소용해장치 및 확산장치를 결합한 일체형 시스템을 적용시켜 2010년 9월~2011년 1월의 5개월간 결과를 분석, 본 장치의 $K_{L}a$를 산정 후 수질정화의 활용 면에서 검토하였다. $K_{L}a$의 산정에는 다양한 방법이 이용되나 용존 산소 농도의 제어에 한계가 있는 실외 대형실험장에 적합한 Lewis and Whitman의 Two-film 이론에 근거한 정상포기법을 적용하였다. 체적 $80m^3$의 수조 내에서 현장 유지용수를 대상으로 실험한 결과 산소전달계수는 $0.324\pm0.050$/min, 포화농도는 8.64 mg $O_2$/L, 도달시간은 11 /min이 산정되었으며, 이는 기존 산기석 포기의 산소전달계수 범위인 $0.105\pm0.019$ /min보다 약 3.1배 높은 결과를 보였다. 또한, 확산장치의 수류 순환 방향 및 정도를 검토하기 위하여 실험수조에서 1m단위로 격자를 구성한 후 초음파 유속계로 실측한 결과 0.0~2.5 m/s 의 평면적 유속범위를 도출하였다. 그리고 전체 순환을 고려했을 때 용존산소는 약 8시간 후 8.64 mg $O_2$/L 값에 도달하여 안정화 되었으며, 강한 수류순환과 산소용해수에 의해 하상에 존재하는 퇴적물들의 이송 및 산화촉진을 유도하였다. 이를 근거로 실험수조의 체적과 기준 가동시간인 8시간을 적용시켰을 때, 실험구 수질은 대조구와 비교하여 COD, T-N, T-P가 모두 25~35% 개선되었다. 이 결과는 여과공정 없이 단순 순환만을 고려한 물리적 수질정화 방법의 단독 활용 가능성을 나타내며, 기존 연구에서 나타난 SOD (Sediment oxygen demand) 저감 능력을 감안할 때 향후 폐쇄성 수역의 수질관리에도 효율적으로 활용할 수 있음을 시사한다.

Diffusion Characteristics of Heavy Metal Pollution depend on Distance from Abandoned Mines (폐광산으로부터의 이격거리에 따른 중금속오염 확산특성)

  • In the study it was investigated the diffusion characteristics of heavy metal pollutions such as Cu, Pb, Hg and As which was the main pollution sources of soils from abandoned mines. The pollution of Cu and Pb was caused by Mine A, that of Hg was caused by Mine 3, that of Pb was caused by Mine C and that of Cu, Pb, As was caused by Mine D. Though the high concentration was detected within 100m from abandoned mines, the low concentration was detected over than 100m from abandoned mines in all heavy metals investigated except As. It means that it was very difficult to estimate the pollution level of As caused abandoned mines. The results were discussed in the concentrations of Cu, Pb and distances showed a good relationship with 0.71 and 0.68 as the coefficient of correlation, respectively. In particular the relativity of Cu to Pb as very strong with 0.84 as the coefficient of correlation. It was consistent with the chemical behavior in soils in the case of Cu and Pb. Therefore it will be a promising approach to remove Cu and Pb with estimated values in the study.

Mechanism of Action of Fatty Alcohol Ethoxylate on Foliar Penetration of Dimethomorph into Cucumber (Fatty Alcohol Ethoxylate에 의해 유도되는 Dimethomorph의 오이 엽면 침투 기작)

  • The foliar uptake of dimethomorph into cucumber was assessed by spray application of aqueous dimethomorph solution containing fatty alcohol ethoxylate (FAE) or fatty acid alkyl ester as activator adjuvants. Afterward, the possible mechanism of action of FAE on foliar penetration of active ingredient was suggested by speculating on the effect of lipophile and hydrophile of FAEs. The amount of absorbed dimethomorph induced by polyoxyethylene mono-9-octadecenyl ether (6 moles ethylene oxide, $C_{18=9}E_6$) was linearly related to the concentrations of surfactant as well as dimethomorph in spray solution, suggesting that it is simply a diffusion phenomenon of the solute molecule through a cuticular membrane from leaf surface. Octadecanol attached to FAE was most effective lipophile on the leaf penetration of dimethomorph. And, the more ethylene oxide had the polyoxyethylene chain of FAE up to 20 moles, the higher the uptake rate was. Therefore, the role of lipophile of FAE on dimethomorph penetration to cucumber leaf, probably, is to modify the physico-chemical properties of cuticular membrane to be permeable to dimethomorph, and the polyoxyethylene chain having less than 20 moles ethylene oxide, which is moderately permeable to cuticular membrane by its molar volume, is to let the physically-modified cuticular membrane to be maintained for a longtime.

Gelation of Chitosan by Sol-Gel Method (졸-겔법에 의한 키토산의 겔화)

  • The gelation characteristics of chitosan of different molecular weight were investigated in terms of concentration and temperature of alkari aqueous solution. The average molecular weights and the degrees of deacetylation of the chitosan used were $2.0{\times}10^5$, $5.2{\times}10^5$, $8.2{\times}10^5$ and 85%, respectively. Sodium hydroxide solution was used as a gelation agent. A simple diffusion model was applied to study the gelation rate. The diffusion coefficients of the gelation agent in the chitosan gel increased with increasing its concentration, temperature of the casting solution, and molecular weight of the chitosan.
