The purpose of this study is to draw implication for scientific inquiry study by investigating level of understanding and actual state regarding the elementary school teachers' scientific inquiry. The survey was conducted toward 42 elementary school teachers who work at the D city by using questionnaire of Views About Scientific Inquiry. Actual state of understanding of scientific inquiry was investigated by categorized the responses to the level of understanding of the eight aspects of scientific inquiry in three levels (informed, mixed, naive) based on analysis criteria. And analyze whether the characteristic of the subjects affect to level of understanding about aspect of scientific inquiry. As a result of the analysis, the two aspects among the eights aspects of scientific inquiry; 'Inquiry procedures are guided by the question asked' and 'Research conclusions must be consistent with the data collected' were appeared to have high rates of informed level of understanding. In the remaining six perspectives, most of elementary school teachers had naive and mixed level of understanding, so informed level of understanding took a relatively low proportion. It implies that elementary school teachers who teach inquiry in the field have limit to understand about scientific inquiry. These results indicated that experiences that have taught students and science related training courses that open sofar have a little influence to increase comprehension about scientific inquiry. Therefore, it is required to reinforce the teachers' understanding about scientific inquiry and to formulate different form of plan unlike existing way of teaching for teaching scientific inquiry.
In this study, we investigated pre-service science teachers' NOS-PCK by analyzing their NOS lesson planning and demonstration. Four pre-service science teachers participated in the study. They planned and demonstrated NOS lessons in the context of 'Science Inquiry Experiment' developed under the 2015 Revised National Curriculum. Their lessons were observed. All of the teaching-learning materials were collected, and semi-structured interviews were also conducted. The analyses of the result revealed that pre-service teachers mainly referred to the curriculum and textbooks when selecting the NOS learning objectives. However, they felt difficulty because the curriculum and textbooks did not clearly present the NOS to be dealt. Although all of them took explicit approaches, there were not many open and divergent reflective approaches. In addition, they expected that high school students would consider scientific knowledge absolute and would have negative perceptions of NOS lessons. They rarely assessed students' NOS learning, and were reluctant to assess. Finally, most of them had a negative perception that learning NOS is not necessary for all students. On the bases of the results, educational implications for improving the expertise of pre-service science teachers in NOS lessons were discussed.
The purpose of this study was to observe and analyze how pre-service secondary chemistry teachers conduct open-ended, free style, exploratory chemistry experiments. The study examined common difficulties and tendencies that teachers showed in the chemistry labs. The study also investigated how these teachers deal with their difficulties and obstacles, such as unexpected results and device errors. Next, the study explored how students' epistemic goals and considerations have been shaped and changed as they interacted with one another and participated in their experiments over time. The study suggests that it could be more effective to gradually decrease guided-features of the experiment by providing appropriate scaffolding, than to start with completely open-ended inquiry labs. The study also suggests that the establishment of epistemic agency among group members influences the way they conduct experiments. Consequently, it is necessary to consider how instructional design for open-ended inquiry labs may provide students with scaffolds to encourage their active participation and to build responsibility in group discussions.
this study, the teaching methods of three science teachers for lead-iodide precipitation reaction experiment were compared. The difference of 9th grade students' understanding was searched according to the science teachers teaching styles, also. Among the three teachers, Teacher A taught students based on the science textbook and allowed students to think themselves and to get out conclusion by the experiment. Teacher B and Teacher C gave students a lot of explanations related to interpretation of the experiment. The percentage of no response on the experiment report of Teacher A was higher than those of Teacher B and Teacher C. But the students of Teacher B and Teacher C tended to have limited thoughts because of the teachers explanations. In spite of the difference, it was common phenomenon that few students understood concepts through the experiment. A lot of students were interested in the experiment, but it was hard to understand Law of definite proportions according to the experiment.
In this study, science teachers' perception and attitude toward nanotechnology are examined through questionnaires gathered from 134 secondary science teachers. As a result, the study shows that science teachers have high perceptiveness. However, they do not understand specific information on nanotechnology correctly. Science teachers have positive attitudes toward nanotechnology and they have perceived risks of nanotechnology as well as benefits of nanotechnology. Science teachers show positive attitudes toward the application of nanotechnology, whereas they show negative attitudes toward personal information chip and nano-taste enhancer. Science teachers are exposed to nanotechnology via various sources such as TV and internet, whereas teachers rarely get information on nanotechnology-related concepts in textbooks and teaching resources. Science teachers have perceived many textbooks do not introduce enough nanotechnology-related concepts. Many teachers try to explain the nanotechnology when textbooks include nanotechnology-related concepts, whereas quite a few of teachers do not introduce the nanotechnology-related concepts in class.

The purpose of this study was to find out the difficulties of teaching the chapter on 'ight', experience of learning, teaching methods, and thinking types of 10 science teachers of the master's course in chemistry education. Discussion course for abduction thinking was carried out during 12 hours after the interview. Data were collected from individual interviews of 4 teachers among the 10 subjects and from the reports of the science teachers after the discussion course. From the data, it was found that most of the science teachers had suffered difficulty in teaching the chapter on light before the discussion course. Most of them had tried to teach drawing the path of light, but there was little teaching effect. Their teaching methods were similar to the method of what they had learned. During the course, the teachers recognized they could not see the path of light directly, and it needed inferring from image. From the abduction thinking, the teachers recognized the meaning of image and gained concrete methods in teaching students.

In this study, we investigated pre-service secondary chemistry teachers' use of teacher's guide in planning lessons. Eleven pre-service teachers at a college of education in Seoul participated in this study. Textbooks and teacher's guide books including various teaching materials were provided. Pre-service teachers used teacher's guide while they planned two lessons, which were a lecture and an instruction using science teaching model. A semi-structured interview was conducted. All of the teaching-learning materials and interviews were analyzed. The analyses of the results revealed that most pre-service teachers followed each lesson presented in teacher's guide, but they did not consider the structure of the whole unit and science curriculum. There were some cases that the exemplary lesson planning in teacher's guide helped them to select science teaching model. They modified the questions of textbook activity in planning their lecture. On the other hand, they modified the activity to fit each stage of the model in planning their instruction using science teaching models. Most pre-service teachers constructed their own worksheets by applying the materials of the teacher's guide. They recognized the components of assessment by considering exemplary lesson planning from the teacher's guide, and created questions by modifying the content of textbooks and teacher's guide books including various teaching materials. However, the questions which they made were limited in context of knowledge. They evaluated that introductory questions were not of interest to students, and modified or added new materials. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.
In this study, we investigated the characteristics of the PCK components in the chemistry units of middle school science teacher's guidebooks developed under the 2009 Revised National Curriculum. The analysis of the results revealed that the sub-components of topic-specific strategies, vertical articulation, and lesson objectives were systematically handled in most teacher's guidebooks. However, subject-specific strategies, assessment methods, and curricular changes were mainly dealt with only in the general guidelines. Experiments and inquiries, assessment questions, and assessment dimensions were lack of constructivist approaches in the aspect of presented contents or forms. Horizontal articulation and knowledge of students were either lacked in relevant content or presented in the form of simple presentation. Concepts and theories accounted for the largest proportion of teachers' guidebooks, but some of them were beyond appropriate levels. On the bases of the results, the implications for the development of the teacher's guidebooks are discussed.
The purposes of this study were to analyze the contents of sulfuric acid in Science textbooks and Chemistry II textbooks, and to survey 10 pre-service teachers' perceptions who majored chemistry education related to sulfuric acid. As results, most of the Science textbooks represented that sulfuric acid was divided into two $H^+$ and one $SO_4{^{2-}}$. But this mistake might be corrected because sulfuric acid was divided into one $H^+$and one $HSO_4{^-}$. Most of Chemistry II textbooks represented ionization steps of sulfuric acid, but same mistake was represented in some of Chemistry II textbooks. $HSO_4{^-}$ is a weak acid, but some Chemistry II textbooks represented $HSO_4{^-}$ as a strong acid. As results of the survey related to pre-service teachers' perceptions, some pre-service teachers didn't know the situation of particles in sulfuric acid solution, and they were affected on by the learning of high school classrooms.
