In this study, to improve the required properties of tile cement mortar such as excellent water retention capacity (WRC), workability, open time, sag resistance, and tile adhesive strength, tile cement mortars containing the several additives with different ratio were compared and analyzed. By adding small amount of synthesized starch to hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) which is used for improving WRC, the decrease of moisture evacuation from mortar surface was observed and the workability of mortar was improved with long open time. Polyacrylamide (PAAm) and ethylencvinyl acetate (EVAc) were also added in order to increase the adhesion of tile. As a results, the saggings of mortar itself and tile were decreased and the adhesive strength of mortar between base and tile was enhanced. By adding melment, the workability was improved by increasing the fluidity of mortar. It is postulated that the properties of tile cement mortar was improved by adding 0.80~1.20% of HPMC, 0.10~0.15% of starch, 0.001~0.015% of PAAm, 0.05~0.10% of EVAc and 0.003~0.005% of melment to the cement mortar.
Concrete, the mixture of cement, sand, gravel and water, is a suspension substance extensively used to construct building materials. When a concrete mortar is applied to the underwater construction, the rheology of concrete is of great importance to its flow performance, placement, anti-washout and consolidation. In this research, the anti-washout and rheological properties of concrete have been investigated with concrete admixtures prepared by adding anionic surfactants, cationic surfactants, and polymeric thickeners. The concrete mortar formulated by pseudo-polymeric systems with the electrostatic association of anionic and cationic surfactants, showed high viscosities and suitable anti-washout properties, but poor pumpabilities. The addition of poly methyl vinyl ether to the mixed surfactant system exhibits synergistic effects by improving the concrete mortar properties of the concrete mortar such as fluidity, visco-elastic property, self-leveling, and anti-washout.
Melt blends of polymide 6(PA6) and polypropylene grafted maleic anhydride(PP-g-MA) were prepared to study the influence of chemical reaction between the two polymer components. The tensile, flexural, izod impact, dynamic mechanical properties and phase structure were investigated for this blend system. Tensile strength and modulus of the blends showed synergetic effect upon blending of two polymer components. Flexural properties maintained the value of numerical mean calculated from the weight ratio of two components. Also, notched izod impact strengths showed maximum in th PA6/PP-g-MA 50/50 wt % blend. From the change of tan ${\delta}$ observed, we confirmed the increase of miscibility in this blend system by chemical reaction between PA6 and PP-g-MA. Blends of good impact resistance could be obtained when the PP-g-MA particles of $2{\mu}m$ was dispersed in the PA6 matrix.

In the construction industry, due to the cost rise of raw material for concrete, we have looked into recycling by-products which came from foundry. When using the Ground Granulated Blast-Furnace Slag(SG), it is good for enhancing the qualities of concrete such as reducing hydration heat, increasing fluidity, long-term strength and durability, but it has some problems : construction time is increased or the rotation rate of form is decreased due to low development of early strength. In this study, therefore, to enhance the early strength of SG mortar, we used some alkali activators(KOH, NaOH, $Na_2CO_3$, $Na_2SO_4$, water glass, $Ca(OH)_2$, alum. This paper deals with reacted products, setting time, heat evolution rate, flow and the strength development of SG cement mortar activated by alkali activators. From the results, if alkali activators were selected and added properly, SG is good for using as the materials of mortar and concrete.

In this study, blast furnace slag powder was used in concrete to help reduce carbon dioxide emissions and to recycle industrial waste. Blast furnace slag powder is a byproduct of smelting pig iron and is obtained by rapidly cooling molten high-temperature blast furnace slag. The powder has been used as an admixture for cement and concrete because of its high reactivity. Using fine blast furnace slag powders in concrete can reduce hydration heat, suppress temperature increases, improve long-term strength, improve durability by increasing watertightness, and inhibit corrosion of reinforcing bars by limiting chloride ion penetration. However, it has not been used much due to its low compressive strength at an early age. Therefore, this study evaluates the effects of steam curing for increasing the initial strength development of concrete made using slag powder. The relationship between compressive strength, SEM observations, and XRD measurements was also investigated. The concrete made with 30% powder showed the best performance. The steam curing seems to affect the compressive strength by destroying the coating on the powder and by producing hydrates such as ettringite and Calcium-Silicate-Hydrate gel.

It has been well known that concrete structures exposed to acid and sulfate environments such as sewer etc. show significant decrease in their durability due to chemical attack. Such deleterious acid and sulfate attacks lead to expansion and cracking in concrete, and thus, eventually result in damage to cement mortar by forming expansive hydration products due to the reaction between cement hydration products and acid and sulfate ions. In this study, the effect of fly ash and blast furnace slag on the bond performances of structural synthetic fiber in latex modified cement mortar under sulfate environments. Fly ash and blast furnace slag contents ranging from 0 % to 20 % are used in the mix proportions. The latex modified cement mortar specimens were immersed in fresh water, 8 % sodium sulfate ($Na_2SO_4$) solutions for 28 and 50 days, respectively. Pullout tests are conducted to measure the bond performance of structural synthetic fiber from latex modified cement mortar after sulfate environments exposure. Test results are found that the incorporation of fly ash and blast furnace slag can effectively enhance the PVA fiber-latex modified cement mortar interfacial bond properties (bond behavior, bond strength and interface toughness) after sulfate environments exposure. The microstructural observation confirms the findings on the interface bond mechanism drawn from the fiber pullout test results under sulfate environments.

The causes of concrete shrinkage are very diverse, in particular, aggregates impact the characteristics of shrinkage in concrete by constraining the shrinkage of cement paste. Meanwhile, owing to the lack of natural aggregate, various alternative aggregates are being developed, and their application in concrete also becomes more diverse. This study aimed to experimentally evaluate the drying and autogenous shrinkage in concrete that was composed of electric arc furnace slag as coarse aggregates. And, the results were compared with prediction models. From the results, the application of electric arc furnace slag can reduce the drying and autogenous shrinkage. In particular, autogenous shrinkage is greatly decreased. The predictions using GL2000 for drying shrinkage and Tazawa model for autogenous shrinkage were similar to the experimental results. However, the most prediction models do not consider the impact of aggregates, hence, the new prediction model should be developed or improved.

Polymers are widely applied to construction materials due to their lightweight and excellent mechanical properties. However, owing to the combustible properties, polymers are one of the biggest reason of spreading large fires in fire accidents that occur frequently in the construction industry. Therefore, as a solution to this problem, many research has been conducted to impart flame retardancy by incorporating flame retardants to polymer matrix. Among these flame retardants, organic phosphorus-containing flame retardants have been attracting much attention because they have excellent compatibility with polymer matrix and low toxicity compared with halogen or inorganic-containing flame retardants. Accordingly, this study aims to design and synthesize an alkoxyamine-based organic phosphorus flame retardant to improve flame retardancy of polylactide which is an eco-friendly polymer used for construction materials.

Alkali activators that stimulate mineral compounds are expensive materials, but in order to replace industrial products of high alkali in gredien ts, both product an d econ omic feasibility must be satisfied. In this study, alkali in dustrial waste(LW) from the LCD man ufacturin g process were used for the purpose of alkali active reaction of GGBFS for high stren gth concrete over 50MPa. Concrete mixed with LW had reduced workability, but it had the characteristic of increasing compressive strength. Analysis using ACI 209 Compressive Strength Model Equation was made to compare the changes in strength coefficients according to LW mixing. The durability test of concrete, such as Chloride Penetration Resistance and carbonation resistance, also showed excellent performance. In the Adiabatic temperature rise test results, the concrete mixed with LW had the effect of accelerating the initial hydration heat. However, the final Adiabatic temperature rise was not significantly affected by the mixing of LW.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of fly-ash on strength development and durability of latex-modified concrete (LMC) and ordinary portland cement concrete (OPC). Main experimental variables were latex contents (0%, 10%, 15%) and fly-ash content (0, 10%, 20%, 30%). Air content and slump tests were performed to check the basic properties of fresh concretes, and compressive strength, flexural strength, rapid chloride ion permeability and chemical resistance were measured to analyze the basic properties of hardened concretes. The test results showed that air contents of LMC with fly ash decreased as fly-ash contents increased from 0% to 30%. Compressive and flexural strength developments of LMC with fly ash were quite similar to those of LMC without fly ash. However, the long-term flexural strength development of LMC with fly ash after 90 days were bigger than that of LMC without fly ash. Chloride ion permeability and chemical resistance decreased rapidly as the content of fly ash increased. Thus, fly ash could be used at LMC in order to reduce water permeability.
