  • Hydrogen in atmosphere can easily dissolve in melt of light metal alloys. Increasing demand for recycling of light metal a alloys has, therefore, focused attention on the removal of hydrogen gas, and alloy addition in melt has become an imporLant r refining process. For this purpose behaviors of mixing and hydrogen degassing in impeller agitated refming vessel with/without barnes were investigated. Flow patterns, mixing time behavior and kinetics of degassing in various agitating conditions were analysed in watet model experiments. And, numerical analysis on turbulent flow pattern in impeller agitated vessels was performed.

  • The turbulent flow in the rotor-stator mixer is based on shear characteristics generated by the interaction of the stator with the rotor rotating at high speed. In this study, the flow characteristics analysis of the unsteady state generated by the interaction of the rotor and the stator in the prototype model of the emulsion-fuel related mixer development was performed with the MRF and SMM by applying the ANSYS FLUENT $k-{\varepsilon}$ (RKE) turbulence model. The behavior and shear characteristics of the flow particles generated at the interface between the designed rotor and stator, and trends such as velocity distribution and turbulence eddy dissipation, were predicted and verified using the CFD analysis.

  • In an attempt to elucidate combustion mechanism or premixed spray flame in detail, both the enlarged photographing, which was performed for spray cross-sectional images of premixed spray flame, and the cross-correlation PIV, which was performed for consecutive time-series images to obtain instantaneous two dimensional flow field, were applied. This study indicated that CW laser as well as pulse laser could be applied for PIV. Furthermore, the results of cross-correlation PIV, which was self-made PIV program, was shown in good agreement with those of PDA. Therefore, it was verified that cross-correlation PIV using CW laser in this study could be effectively used for observing structure of premixed spray flame.

  • A micromixer is a component of a lab-on-a-chip or microfluidic device that mixes two or more chemicals together(convergence). The purpose of this study is to assess the performance of passive micromixer of various shapes. Six shapes of micromixers were compared and three dimensional modeling was carried out to have the same hydraulic diameter. The commercial code, ANSYS Fluent, was used to simulate the internal mixing flow. A numerical analysis method is described in detail in this paper. The performance of the micromixer was compared with the mixing index and pressure drop. Consequently, the CDM-8T shape showed reasonable mixing performance and relatively low pressure drop.

  • Compound flow by confluence of two parallel flows through a convergent channel and its choking phenomenon are calculated by one-dimensional isentropic model and completely mixing model. Optical observations and pressure measurements for subsonic/subsonic compound flows are carried out and compared with the results of one-dimensional calculations. As a result, it is found that inlet conditions of one flow influence the behavior of the other flow as well as the choking condition and present experimental data agree well with the results of one-dimensional calculations.

  • The three-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations have been solved by a node-centered finite volume method with unstructured hybrid grids. The pressure-velocity coupling is handled by the artificial compressibility algorithm and convective fluxes are obtained by Roe's flux difference splitting scheme with linear reconstruction of the solutions. Euler implicit method with Jacobi matrix solver is used for the time-integration. The viscous terms are discretised in a manner to handle any kind of grids such as tetragedra, prisms, pyramids, hexahedra, or mixed-element grid. Inviscid bump flow is solved to check the accuracy of high order convective flux discretisation. And viscous flows around a circular cylinder and a sphere are studied to show the efficiency and accuracy of the solver.

  • The effect of flow stratification is of particular concern during transient after scram in the outlet plenum of LMFBR. In this case, buoyancy effects on turbulent mixing are of importance to designers. An investigation has been made to identify the appropriate change in the available turbulence models which are necessary to include the effects of buoyancy on turbulence transport equations. The developed physical model of the buoyant turbulent flow are solved through SMAC method. Testing of the developed numerical model was undertaken and compared with experimental results. The results show that the buoyant turbulent effects account for a significant increase in the stability of the stratification, with a strong suppression of turbulence in the outlet plenum.

  • The effects of design parameters of supersonic ejector system under the assumption of constant pressure mixing were performed. Design parameters were mass flow rate ratio, area ratio between primary and secondary flow, and primary Mach number. 1-D theoretical performance of ejector in terms of pressure ratio and contraction ratio with and without loss mechanism such as diffuser efficiency and friction were considered.
