  • The effect of lower bed height on the collapse velocity was investigated for a two-stage bubbling fluidizedbed (0.1 m in diameter, 1.2 m high) connected with a standpipe (0.025 m in diameter) for solid transport. Air was used as fluidizing gas and mixture of coarse (< $1000{\mu}m$ in diameter and $3625kg/m^3$ in apparent density) and fine (< $147{\mu}m$ in diameter and $4079kg/m^3$ in apparent density) particles as solid particles. Mixing ratio of fine particles, height of the lower bed and the distributor of the upper bed were considered as experimental variables. The collapse velocity increased with static height of the lower bed. However, the effect decreased as the mixing ratio of fine particles increased. The effect seemed to be attributed to the increase in height of the dense layer of coarse particles that prevented the gas from flowing into the standpipe, not in pressure drop for the standpipe, as the bed height increased. The collapse velocity decreased a little as the pressure drop of the distributor of the upper bed increased. An improved correlation was proposed for predicting the collapse velocity.

  • The combustion characteristics of gaseous methane-gaseous oxygen, an eco-friendly bipropellant injected by shear coaxial injector, were investigated. Flame was photographed under various combustion conditions using a DSLR camera, and the characteristics of the flame shape was quantified by image post-processing. From the view point of stabilization, the diffusion flame could be divided into anchored flame regime and blow-off regime. As the oxidizer Reynolds number ($Re_o$) increased, a probability of the formation of anchored flame increased with the length of flame. The shear coaxial injector used in this experiment was found to require a large length-to-diameter ratio of combustion chamber because it formed a relatively long flame in the injection direction due to a poor mixing depending only on the momentum diffusion of two propellant jets.

  • A study was performed to investigate the characteristics of two-phase jet injected into subsonic cross-flow using the external mixed gas blast two-phase nozzle. The shadowgraph method was adopted for the cross-flow jet visualization and PDPA system was used to measure droplet size, velocity, and volume flux. The atomization of two-phase jet is initially determined according to gas to liquid mass flow-rate ratio and the Reynolds number of cross-flows. The highest penetration trajectories of two-phase jet injected into cross-flow are governed by the momentum ratio at subsonic cross-flow. As GLR of two-phase jet injected into cross-flow increases, the droplet size decreases and the distribution area of volume flux increases. The distribution of volume flux that influenced by the counter vortex pair at the downstream of cross-flow is symmetric in shape of horseshoe.

  • In this paper, the dispersion controlled dissipative (DCD) scheme is reviewed and then extended to simulate chemically reacting gas flows in multicomponent mixtures in the presence of strong shock waves. Furthermore, the properties of the reactive DCD (DCD-R) scheme are discussed, followed by several applications. The DCD scheme has been shown to have the following features: high accuracy and robustness for reacting gas flows in the presence of strong shock waves and contact discontinuities, and algorithmic simplicity.

  • A study has been conducted to provide the experimental information for the velocity and temperature profiles of steam-air mixutre and to investigate their roles on the film condensation with wavy interface. Saturated gas mixture of steam-air was made to flow through the nearly horizontal$(4.1^{\circ})$ square duct of 0.1m width and 1.56m length at atmospheric pressure, and was condensated on the bottom cold plate. The air mass fraction in the gas mixture was changed from zero(W =0, pure steam) to one(W =1, pure air), and the bulk velocity was varied from 2 to 4 m/s. Water film was injected concurrently to investigate the effect of wavy interface on the condensation. The velocity and temperature profiles were measured by LDA system and thermocouples along the three parameters ; air mass fraction, mixture velocity and film flow rate. The profiles moved toward the interface with increasing steam mass fraction, mixture velocity and film flow rate. The Prandtl and Schmidt numbers were near one in the present experimental range, however there was no complete similarity between the velocity and temperature profiles of gas mixture. And the heat transfer characteristics and interfacial structure were coupled with each other.

  • Three-dimensional (3D) numerical simulations have been carried out to study how coolant injection conditions influence the cooling efficiency and projectile ejection performance in a mixture-gas ejection system (or gas-steam launch system). The 3D single-phase computational model was verified using a 1D model constructed with reference to the previous research and then a two-phase flow computation simulating coolant injection on to hot gas was performed using a DPM (Discrete Phase Model). As a result of varying the coolant flow rate and number of injection holes, cooling efficiency was improved when the number of injection holes were increased. In addition, the change of the coalescence frequency and spatial distribution of coolant droplets caused by the injection condition variation resulted in a change of the droplet diameter, affecting the evaporation rate of coolant. The evaporation was found to be a critical factor in the design optimization of the ejection system by suppressing the pressure drop while the temperature decreases inside the breech.

  • Hydrochemical, stable isotopic ($\delta^{18}O$ and dD) and noble gas isotopic analyses of seven hot spring water samples, eleven groundwater samples and six surface water samples collected from the Icheon and Pocheon area were carried out to find out hydrochemical characteristics, and to interpret the source of noble gases and the geochemical evolution of the hot spring waters. The hot spring waters show low temperature type ranging from 21.5 to $31.4^{\circ}C$ and the pH value between 6.69 and 9.21. Electrical conductivity of hot spring waters has the range from 310 to $735\;{\mu}S/cm$. Whereas the hot spring water in the Icheon area shows the geochemical characteristics of neutral pH, the $Ca-HCO_3$(or $Ca(Na)-HCO_3$) chemical type and a high uranium content, the hot spring water in the Pocheon area shows the characteristics of alkaline pH, the $Na-HCO_3$ chemical type and a high fluorine content. These characteristics indicate that the hot spring water in the Icheon area is under the early stage in the geochemical evolution, and that the hot spring water in the Pocheon area has been geochemically evolved. The $\delta^{18}O$ and ${\delta}D$ values of hot spring waters show the range of $-10.1{\sim}-8.69%o$ and from $-72.2{\sim}-60.8%o$, respectively, and these values supply the information of the recharge area of hot spring waters. The $^3He/^4He$ ratios of the hot spring waters range from $0.09\;{\times}\;10^{-6}$ to $0.65\;{\times}\;10^{-6}$ which are plotted above the mixing line between air and crustal components. Whereas the helium gas in the Icheon hot spring water was mainly provided from the atmospheric source mixing with the mantle(or magma) origin, the origin of helium gas in the Pocheon hot spring water shows a dominant crustal source. $^{40}Ar/^{36}Ar$ ratios of hot spring water are in the range of an atmosphere source.

  • The annular and coaxial swirl flows between which LPG is supplied was selected to study the swirling flames in double co-swirl flows. The objective of this study is to research into the effects of double co-swirl flow conditions on the stability limit, the reverse flow boundary, and the time mean temperature distributions of the swirling flames. The increase of swirl intensity of axial flow makes the stability limit decrease, but the annular swirl flow (SM>0.5) makes stability and swirl intensity of axial flow increase, And the existence of axial swirl flow makes flame intensive and small in size, and this may be applicable to the design of high power compact combustor.

  • There are around 7,500 manure tanks to treat the manures from pigs in Korea. In the tank, there are too much sediments deposited on the base and wall, which causes low efficiency of stock capacity and manure fermentation. In order to minimize sediments and to ferment manure effectively, we developed a 2-fluid jet mixer for mixing sediments in liquid livestock manure tank. For developing the prototype, we tested a factorial experimental system with various nozzles, and simulated CFD models with two kinds of nozzle arrangement. From the results of factorial experiment and CFD simulation, we concluded the dia. ratio of primary : secondary nozzle should be 1:2 and the nozzles should be arranged at the same distances toward to the circumferential direction. With this results, we manufactured a 2-fluid jet mixer which is consists of four 2-phase nozzles, centrifugal slurry pump and root's type air blower. And, we carried out the performance test of the prototype in the round shaped liquid manure tank in the farm. The performance test results showed that the uniformity of TS (Total Solid) and VS (Volatile Solid) was raised from 21.3 g/L, 13.3 g/L In steady state to TS and VS to 23.0 g/L, 14.1 g/L in the mixing operation. Therefore, we could conclude that the prototype of 2-fluid mixer could make the solid material which could be sediments in the tank not to be deposited in the tank and to be contacted to air bubbles which could enhance the efficiency of the fermentation of livestock manure.
