  • The thermal characteristics of solid nitrogen are investigated by experiment and analysis for the purpose of evaluating its feasibility as a cooling medium for HTS (high T$_{c}$ superconductor) magnets. A cryostat to refrigerate a liquid-nitrogen container well below its freezing temperature with a 2-stage GM cryocooler is designed and constructed. The spatial distribution of temperature is measure as a function of time during the freezing and melting processes. from which the thermal diffusivity of solid nitrogen can be approximately calculated. the freezing process is formulated and solved by the integral method with an assumption of phase equilibrium at the solid-liquid interface and experimental observation. It may be concluded that the thermal diffusion in solid phase is much slower than in liquid and the degree of super-saturation is quite severe in the solidification of nitrogen.n.

  • An intermediate cooling is indispensible to reduce the refrigeration power at superconducting system that is cooled conductively by a cryocooler without liquid cryogens. The cooling load at the intermediate stage is caused by the mechanical supports, the radiation shield and the current lead. From the cooling load calculation, a thermodynamic analysis that take into account the temperature-dependent properties of the materials and the actual performance of the cryocooler is developed. For any given physical dimensions of the various components, it is shown that there exist a unique optimum for the intermediate temperature to minimize the overall refrigeration power. The results of this study can be usefully applied to the selection of the cryocooler as well as the design of the conduction-cooled cryostat.

  • Thermodynamic cycle analysis has been performed to maximize the liquid amount for two hydrogen liquefaction systems using two-stage GM(Gifford-McMahon) refrigerator. the optimal operating conditions have been analytically sought with real properties of normal hydrogen for the two-stage GM direct contact system and the two-stage GM precooled L-H (Linde-Hampson) system. In the precooled system, there existed optimal values for compressed mass flow and compressed pressure to maximize the liquefied mass. It was recommended to use a cryocooler, which had a large precooling capacity between 70 and 100K.

  • To realize a high integrated Flash memory utilizing SONOS memory devices, the NOR type 1TC(one Transistor Cell) SONOS Flash arrays are fabricated and characterized. This SONOS Flash arrays with common source lines are designed and fabricated by conventional 0.35$\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS process. The thickness of ONO for memory cell is tunnel oxide of 34${\AA}$, nitride of 73${\AA}$ and blocking oxide of 34${\AA}$. To investigate operating characteristics, CHEI(Channel Hot Electron Injection) method and Bit line erase method are selected as the write operation and the erase method, respectively. The disturbance characteristics according to the write/erase/read cycling are also examined. The degradation characteristics are investigated and then the reliability of SONOS flash memory is guaranteed.

  • In this work, back bias effects in the program of the silicon-oxide-nitride-oxide-silicon (SONOS) cell using two-step pulse sequence, are investigated. Two-step pulse sequence is composed of the forward biases for collecting the electrons at the substrate terminal and back bias for injecting the hot electrons into the nitride layer. With an aid of the back bias for electron injection, we obtain a program time as short as 600 ns and an ultra low-voltage operation with a substrate voltage of -3 V.

  • The present study was carried out to investigate the incidence of Campylobacter spp. from the chicken carcasses in slaughterhouse. A total of 9 strains were primarily isolated from enrichment culture and selective culture of the sample with candle and microaerophilic chamber method. Nine of Gram-negative, catalase-positive and oxidase-positive strains were further isolated by the determination of biochemical characteristics and finally identified as Campylobacter jejuni with HIP 400F and HIP l134R primers. Therefore, this PCR method proved to be useful as a routine diagnostic test for the Campylobacter detection and confirmation of C. jejuni and C. coli in naturally contaminated poultry samples.

  • Thermal analysis on a Linde-Hampson hydrogen liquefaction system using cryogenic refrigerators as precooling has been carried out. Three commercially available models of cryogenic refrigerators, such as CTI l020CP, CVI CGR009 and CVI CGR011, are considered in the performance analysis. The effect of ortho-para conversion process during hydrogen liquefaction is also studied in detail. The results obtained indicate that the optimal hydrogen mass flow rate and the optimal compressed pressure exist for the maximum hydrogen liquefaction rate. The optimal compressed pressure is increased in the range of 80 - 120 bar with an increase in the hydrogen mass flow rate. It is also found that better performance could be obtained with a cryogenic refrigerator, which produces high cooling capacity at precooling temperature in the range of 80 - 100 K.

  • A preliminary design of gas-gp thermal switch is presented to reduce the cooldown time of superconducting system conduction-cooled by a two-stage refrigerator without liquid cryogens. The switch connects thermally the first and the second stages (ON) to take advantage of the larger refrigeration capacity at the first stage during the beginning period. After the cryogenic temperature is reached, the switch should isolate thermally the two stages (OFF) in order to reduce the heat leak to the cold end. In this paper, a new concept for the performance index is introduced to evaluate the reduction of the cooldown time and the increase of the cooling load at the same time. In addition, the design of a gas-gap switch is discussed as a closed container of several staggered concentric tubes filled with gas, which is frozen at low temperatures for the shut-off of heat without any mechanical actuation. Some of the detailed features in the design is quantitative investigated by the gas convection model in the continuum or the rarefied gas region.

  • The SONOS devices have been fabricated by the conventional $0.35{\mu}m$ complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) process with NOR array. Two-bit operation using conventional process achieve the high density memory compare with other two-bit memory. Lateral diffusion phenomenon in the two-bit operation cause soft error in the memory. In this study, the programming conditions arc investigated in order to reduce lateral diffusion for two-bit operation of CSL-NOR type SONOS flash cell.
