Discharge Characteristics of Air according to the Shapes of Rod Electrode in the Rod-Plane Gap having Flame on the Plane Electrode (연소화염이 존재하는 봉대평판 갭에서 봉전극 형상에 따른 공기의 방전 특성)

  • In this paper, discharge characteristics of air in the vertical arrangement of three rods(dome-shaped, cylinder-shaped, and needle-shaped rod) and plane gap having propane flame on the plane electrode are examined under the application of a.c. and d.c. high-voltages. As the result of the experiment, flashover voltages in the presence of the flame are substantially lowered than those in the absence of flame, and relative a.c. flashover voltages in the dome-shaped, cylinder-shaped, and needle-shaped rod gaps are found 32.5%, 32.1%, and 26.4% respectively. The polarity effects with the d.c. voltages are shown, and flashover voltages in negative polarity are much lowered than those in positive one. The negative flashover voltages in the dome-shaped and cylinder-shaped gaps are found 18.3% and 18.7% respectively, but the positive ones are found 53.5% and 43.2% respectively. In the needle-shaped rod gaps, meanwhile, the flame is extinguished by corona wind, and the quenching voltages are found 28.4% under the application of a.c. voltages. The ion winds of corona and the reduction of air density are the main factors of flashover reduction owing to the flame in the case of a.c. voltages, but the electrifications of the positive ion by thermal ionization besides the above factors are remarkably found in the case of d.c. voltages.

  • Fuel mass flux was experienced with a function of the oxidizer mass flux using initial port area of solid fuel, in stead of regression rate correlation which shows combustion characteristic in hybrid propulsion. The burning rate could be easily obtained by using the oxidizer mass flux of initial port area without iteration, and fuel configuration could be designed simply. In this experiments PE was used as fuel, COX was used as oxidizer. A variation of mass flux of solid fuel with port area is considered by changing the burning time. In the case of approximate 0.5 for an exponent of oxidizer mass flux, using the fuel mass flux correlation is more suitable than regression rate correlation in hybrid propulsion.

Safety Assessment of By-product Gas Piping after Design Change (부생가스 연료배관의 설계변경에 따른 안전성 평가)

  • Various process piping usually carries out high flammable and explosible gas under high pressure and high temperature. Due to frequent change of design and structure it becomes more complicated and compactly located. The safety management level is relatively low since it is considered as simply designed component. In this study a safety assessment procedure is proposed for complicated piping system around a mixing drum in which natural gas and by-product gases were mixed. According to ASME code, pipe stress analysis was conducted for determining design margin at some key locations of the piping. These high stress locations can be used as major inspection points for managing the pipe integrity. Sensitivity analysis with outside temperature of the pipe and support constraint condition. Possible effect of hydroen gas to the pipe steel during the previous use of the by-product gas was also discussed.

  • A fuel assembly consists of five major components, i.e., a top end piece (TEP), a bottom end piece (BEP), spacer grids (SGs), guide tubes (GTs) and an instrumentation tube (IT); in addition, it also includes fuel rods (FRs). The TEP/BEP should satisfy stress intensity limits according to the conditions A and B of ASME, Section III, Division 1-Subsection NB. In a dual-cooled fuel assembly, the array and position of fuel rods are different from those in a conventional PWR fuel assembly; these changes are necessary for achieving power uprating. The flow plates of the TEP and BEP have to be modified accordingly. The pattern and shape of the flow holes were newly designed. To verify the strength compatibility, the Tresca stress limit according to the ASME code was investigated in the case of an axial load of 22.241 kN. In this paper, the stress linearization procedure for strength evaluation of a newly designed TEP is presented.

Design and Construction of the Acoustic Horn for Magnetostrictive Ultrasonic Transducer (자왜형 초음파 트랜스듀서용 도파봉의 설계 및 제작)

  • In this paper, we designed the acoustic horn for magnetostrictive ultrasonic transducers in a theoretical manner, and validity of the analysis was verified through comparison with the results of finite element analysis. Results of the two analysis methods showed good agreement with each other. The theoretical method can fairly quickly determine the horn length that satisfies given frequency specification, but also has the drawback that it is applicable only to the frequency range over the cut-off frequency. According to the results, the catenoidal horn can provide larger amplification than the exponential horn. It was also found that it is more desirable for the region having the catenoidal curvature to be as short as possible to achieve larger amplification of the transducer deformation. Based on the analysis results, a magneto-strictive transducer sample was fabricated and its performance was evaluated experimentally. The transducer has the resonance frequency of 19.3 ㎑ as well as the maximum SPL of 199 dB, and shows the omni-directional radiation pattern.

  • 탄소 재료는 뛰어난 물성에서 다양한 재료로의 응용이 기대되고 있다. 특히, 이종 원소 함유 카본 재료는 전기적 특성과 촉매성의 발현 등 새로운 기능을 카본 재료에 부여할 수 있어서 연료 전지, 에너지 저장, 태양 전지 등에의 응용이 기대되고 있다. 최근, 용액 중의 저온 플라즈마인 솔루션 플라즈마(solution plasma process)를 이용하여 벤젠 용액 등에서 탄소 재료 합성에 성공하였다. 그러나 기존의 연구에서는 솔루션 플라즈마 프로세스를 이용하여 합성한 이종원소 카본은 전도성이 낮아 이종원소의 함유량을 낮추는 고온의 열처리가 필요했다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 우수한 물리적 전기적 특성을 갖는 그래핀(graphene)과 같은 이종 원소 카본 나노시트(heteroatom carbon nanosheets)의 합성 및 메커니즘(mechanism)에 대해 검토하였다. 다양한 이종원소를 포함한 유기용매 안에 바이폴라 펄스 전원에 의한 전압을 두 텅스텐 전극 간에 인가하고, 솔루션 플라즈마를 생성하여 이종원소 카본 재료를 합성했다. 플라즈마 생성은 텅스텐 봉을 전극으로 사용하고 전압을 2.0 kV, 펄스 주파수를 200 kHz, 펄스 폭을 $1.0{\mu}s$, 전극 간 거리를 1.5 mm에서 일정하게 유지하며 200 mL 유기용매 중에서 방전시키는 것으로 재료를 합성했다. 플라즈마 방전 후, 필터을 이용하여 흡인 여과한 뒤 $200^{\circ}C$에서 1 시간 동안 건조 시켰다. 건조 후의 이종원소 카본의 물리적 특성을 원소 분석, X선 회절 법(XRD), 저항률 측정, 투과형 전자 현미경(TEM) 및 라만 분광법, 전자 현미경(SEM), X-선광전자분광기(XPS)등을 이용하여 카본의 형상 및 특성을 분석하였다. 그 결과 다양한 이종원소를 포함한 유기용매 중 2-pyrrolidone을 사용했을 때, 이종 원소 카본 나노시트를 합성하는데 성공하였다. 또한, 이 연구방법을 통해서 솔루션 플라즈마 프로세스를 통한 카본 나노시트 합성의 메커니즘을 규명하였다.

Numerical Study on Steam-Methane Reaction Process in a Single Tube Considering Porous Catalyst (다공성 촉매를 고려한 단일튜브 내의 수증기-메탄 개질에 관한 수치해석 연구)

  • The present study investigated numerically heat and mass transfer characteristics of a fixed bed reactor by using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code of Fluent (ver. 13.0). The temperature and species fraction were estimated for different porosities. For modeling of the catalyst in a fixed bed tube, catalysts were regarded as the porous material, and the empirical correlation of pressure drop based on the modified Eugun equation was used for simulation. In addition, the averaged porosities were taken as 0.545, 0.409, and 0.443 and compared with non-porous state. The predicted results showed that the temperature at the tube wall became higher than that estimated along the center line of tube, leading to higher hydrogen generation by the endothermic reaction and heat transfer. As the mean porosity increases, the hydrogen yield and the outlet temperature decreased because of the pressure drop inside the reformer tube.

  • Recently a method for increasing the bearing capacity by laying the reinforcing materials with three or four layers as a method reinforcing the ground was studied recently. The purpose of this study is to examine the method for increasing shear-strength factor of the ground by reinforcing the ground under the foundation. According a method of wrapping ground with bakk-shape or semicircle-shape by geotextile was developed in this study and it looks likes anaspect that spreading footing exits under spread footing. A simulation loading-test using Aluminum sticks was carried out in order to examine the mechanism about bearing capacity of spread footing reinforced by geotextile. Increase of ultimate bearing capacity was verified in this simulation loading-test when charging loads to spread footing, which is propose from this study, reinforced by geotextile. And moving directions of points of the ground were also checked by grid-type indication method, and the areas where plastic failure appeared were checked by B-shutter photographing.

  • Ground subsidence mainly occurs due to the soil wash-away caused by cracked sewer pipes. It is necessary to understand the behavior surrounding soils with the formation of cavity and relaxation zone to set up counterplan. In this paper, a series of laboratory model tests and numerical analyses (Discrete Element Method) were performed to investigate the ground subsidence mechanism due to sewer pipe damage. For model tests, aluminum rod and trap door were used to simulate the behavior of model ground. Test results were compared with the numerical analyses conducted under the same boundary conditions with model tests. From this study, it was investigated the shape and size of cavity and relaxation zone due to the soil wash-away and a void ratio distribution of surrounding soils with relaxation properties.

Development of On-Line Life Monitoring System for high-Temperature Header of Fossile Powder Plant Boiler (화력발전소 보일러 고온헤더의 실시간 수명 감시시스템 개발)

  • Conventional methods for assessing remaining life of critical high temperature components in fossil power plants rely on nondestructive inspection practices and accompanying life analysis based on fracture mechanics By using these conventional methods. It has been difficult to perform uninterrupted in-service inspection for life prediction. Thus, efforts have been made for developing on-line remaining life monitoring systems employing information on the shape of structures, operating variables and material properties. In thus study, a software for on-line life monitoring system which performs real-time life evaluation of a high temperature system headers was developed. The software is capable of evaluating creep and fatigue life usage from the real-time stress data calculated by using temperatures/stress transfer Green functions derived in advance for the specific headers. The major benefits of the developed software life in determining future operating schedule, inspection interval, and replacement plan by monitoring real-time life usage based on prior operating history.
