Numerical Study on Flow and Heat Transfer Enhancement during Flow Boiling in Parallel Microchannels (병렬 미세관 흐름비등의 유동특성 및 열전달 향상에 대한 수치적 연구)

  • Flow boiling in parallel microchannels has received attention as an effective heat sink mechanism for power-densities encountered in microelectronic equipment. the bubble dynamics coupled with boiling heat transfer in microchannels is still not well understood due to the technological difficulties in obtaining detailed measurements of microscale two-phase flows. In this study, complete numerical simulation is performed to further clarify the dynamics of flow boiling in microchannels. The level set method for tracking the liquid-vapor interface is modified to include the effects of phase change and contact angle. The method is further extended to treat the no-slip and contact angle conditions on the immersed solid. Also, the reverse flow observed during flow boiling in parallel microchannels has been investigated. Based on the numerical results, the effects of channel shape and inlet area restriction on the bubble growth, reverse flow and heat transfer are quantified.

천마 연소관 브라켓 가공공정 개선

  • 천마 연소관 및 Bracket는 고강도 특수강의 일종인 Maraging steel C-250 Grade로서 유동성형공정 (flow forming process: F/F) 및 용접공정을 거쳐 시효경화후의 경도(HRC 48-52)가 높아 절삭가공 및 Tapping에 어려움이 있다고 판단되어 브라켓 밀링가공(Tapping포함)을 시효경화공정 이전에 완성하는 것으로 공정 FLOW를 설정하였으나, 시효경화 시 유동성형공정 잔류응력 및 재질특성에 의한 수축, 변형 등으로 도면상 요구된 품질(형상 및 위치공차) 만족이 미흡하였을 뿐만 아니라 오히려 전체 공정 수만 증가하였음. 따라서 연소관 및 Bracket 완성가공을 시효경화 후에 실시하는 것으로 공정 개선 하고자 시험 작업한 결과, 선삭, 밀링작업등 다른 기계가공 공정의 문제점은 대부분 해결할 수 있었으나, Tapping공정만은 해결할 수 없어서 진정한 공정개선을 기할 수 없었음. 그러나, 제품의 품질 및 생산성을 고려 시효경화 후 Tapping 공정실시 필요성이 강력히 대두되어 Maraging steel 재질특성에 적합한 공구 및 작업조건을 검토, 설정 시험작업 함으로써 공정개선을 이룰 수 있었음.

Operational Characteristics for a Miniature Heat Pipe with a V-shaped Groove Wick (V형 그루브윅을 갖는 소형 히트파이프의 작동특성)

  • 소형 히트파이프에서 ?을 구리망사 또는 그루브를 적용할 수 있고 그루브 형상은 U, V 등 다양하다. 망사?은 모세압이 큰 잇점이 있어나 제작 단가가 높다. 그루브?은 대량생산이 용이하나 전밀 가공 기술이 요구된다. 현재까지 국내에서는 노트북 PC의 CPU 냉각에 사용한 소형 히트파이프의 전량을 해외에서 구매하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 직경 7 mm U형 그루브 관을 인발하여 관직경을 축소한 결과 내경 3.6 mm의 외경 4mm 의 V형 그루브관을 얻을 수 있었다. 이 관을 이용하여 소형 히트파이프를 제작하고 열전달 성능 시험을 수행하였다. 열전달 한계는 40~6$0^{\circ}C$ 범위작동온도 경사각 0$^{\circ}$ 에서 3 W를 얻을 수 있었다. U형 그루브 히트파이프에 비하여 모세압 저하로 인하여 낮은 값을 나타내었다. 열저항을 약 0.7~l.3 $^{\circ}C$/W 로 U형 그루브와 유사하였다.

액체 램제트 엔진의 3차원 분무 및 연소 반응 해석

  • 액체 램제트 연소기는 흡입공기와 분무, 혼합 그리고 이에 따른 연소 등 일련의 과정에 따라 다수의 복잡한 현상들이 상호 밀접하게 관련되어 있다. 본 연구에서는 액체 램제트 연소기내의 유동특성을 파악하기 위해서 2차원 및 3차원 연소기 형상에 대해서 수치적 실험을 수행하였으며, 격자구성은 연소기에 공기를 공급하고 연료를 분무하는 공기 유입관 영역과 연소실 영역, 그리고 출구 대기 영역으로 나누어 독자적으로 격자를 생성시켰다. 2차원과 3차원 유동해석을 비교하였고 분무모델의 적용에 따른 연소특성 및 분사위치에 따른 연소특성을 비교하였다. 유동해석 결과 2차원과 3차원의 유동특성은 달랐으며, 분무모델을 적용해야 정확한 연소 유동 현상을 예측할 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 유입관의 안쪽에 연료의 분사위치를 준 경우가 연소의 안정화에 필요한 재순환영역으로의 연료의 혼합이 잘 되어 유입관 바깥쪽에 연료를 분사시키는 것보다 좋은 분사위치임을 알 수 있었다.

Numerical Study on the Effect of a Groove of D-type on Internal Flow and Pressure Drop in a Corrugated Pipe (주름관 내부 유동과 압력강하에 대한 D형 그루브의 영향에 관한 수치해석)

  • A corrugated pipe is widely used in firefighting equipment and sprinkler pipes because of its elasticity, which is less damaged by deformation and convenient facilities. However, the corrugated shape of the wall results in complex internal turbulent flow, and it is difficult to predict the pressure drop, which is an important design factor for pipe flow. The pressure drop in the corrugated tube is a function of the shape factors of the pipe wall, such as groove height, length, and pitch. Existing studies have only shown a study of pressure drop due to length changes in the case of D-shaped tubes with less than 5 pitch (P) and height (K) of the rectangular grooves in the tube. In this work, we conduct a numerical study of pressure drop for P/Ks with length and height changes of 2.8, 3.5 and 4.67 with Re Numbers of 55,000, 70,000 and 85,000. The pressure drop in the corrugated tube was interpreted to decrease with smaller P/K. We show that the pressure drop is affected by the change in the groove aspect ratio, and the increase in the height of the groove increases the recirculation area, and the larger the Reynolds number, the greater the pressure drop.

Effects of Absorber Tube Shape and Operating Conditions on Thermal Performance of All-Glass Evacuated Tube Solar Collectors (이중 진공관형 태양열 집열기의 집열관 내부 형상과 운전 조건이 성능 변화에 미치는 영향)

  • All-glass evacuated tube solar collectors consist of glass evacuated tubes and absorber tubes. Solar thermal energy from the sun is transferred to the working fluid through the glass evacuated tube and the absorber tube. Several collectors which have different absorber tubes are tested to find the effects of the absorber tube shapes and the operating conditions such as the incident heat flux and the flow rate. As the results, the efficiency of the collector which has a finned tube U tube is about $2{\sim}5%$ higher than that of the others in all cases on an average. And the collector has a finned U tube has the highest efficiency at the high flow rate and the low incident heat flux. In this condition, the outlet mean temperature is low and the heat loss becomes small. Also, it is known that the fin effect is greater than the shade effect.

Thermal Performance Variations of Glass Evacuated Tube Solar Collectors Depending on the Absorber Shape and the Incidence Angle of Solar Ray (흡수관 형상과 일사 각도에 따른 진공관형 태양열 집열기의 성능 변화)

  • The thermal performances of glass evacuated tube solar collectors are numerically investigated. Four different shapes of solar collectors are considered and the performances of these solar collectors are numerically investigated. Dealing with only collecting tube, the effects of not only the shape of the absorber tube but also the incidence angle of solar irradiation on the thermal performance of the collector are studied because the energy obtained by the absorber can be varied according to the incidence angle of solar radiation. However, the solar irradiation consists of the beam radiation as well as the diffuse radiation. Also, in actual system, the interference of solar irradiation and heat transfer interaction between the tubes should be considered. Therefore, this study considered these effects is carried out experimentally and numerically. The accuracy of the numerical model is verified by experiments. The result shows that the thermal performance of the absorber used a plate fin and U-tube is about $25\%$ better than those of the other models.

  • This study investigates the safety assessment of the potential for fretting-wear damages caused by foreign object in operating nuclear power plants. To get the natural frequency, corresponding mode shape and participation factor, modal analyses are performed for the helical type tubes with various conditions. The wear rate of helical type tube caused by foreign object is calculated using the Archard formula and the remaining life of the tube is predicted, and discussed in this study is the effect of the vibration of the tube on the remaining life of the tube. In addition, addressed is the effect of the external pressure on the vibration and fretting-wear characteristics of the tube.

Flow and Thermal Analyses for the Optimal Specification of Flat Tube at Radiator (라디에이터용 납작관의 최적형상 도출을 위한 열.유동해석)

  • The flow and thermal phenomena in flat tubes of radiator are analyzed numerically. To predict the characteristics of heat transfer and pressure drop, the flow analysis program for three-dimensional complex geometry is developed, which adopted an non-staggered grid system and Cartesian velocities as dependent variables of the momentum equations. Using the developed program, the effect of tube specifications on the heat transfer characteristics is investigated for various flat tubes. From this study, the following results are obtained; (1) For the same hydraulic diameter($D_h{\doteq}5.2$mm), the Nusselt numbers of three basic modeis(D, J, and H-model) are 8.71, 8.92, and 10.58, respectively, and the pressure drops of D-, J-, and H-model are predicted as $-3.08{\times}10^{-2}\;Pa,\;-3.12{\times}10^{-2}\;Pa,\;and\; -3.98{\times}10^{-2}$ Pa, (2) In case of the same flat tube specification, the fins must be brazed at upper tube surface because the heat is more vividly transferred. Therefore, it is found that the H- model is the most effective tube as a heat exchanger and these results are used as a fundamental data for the design of tube.

Effects of exhaust pipe curvature on the performance of a 4 cycle diesel engine (디이젤 엔진에서 排氣管 屈曲이 엔진性能에 미치는 影響)

  • An experimental study on the effects of exhaust pipe curvature on the performance of a diesel engine is presented. The experiments were carried out on a 4-cycle, 216 c.c diesel engine and two types of pipe curvature, circular arc and rectangle, were tested. The shaft output, shaft torque and specific fuel consumption were obtained by inserting bent pipes of different dimensions into the exhaust pipe at various engine operation conditions. It was found that the engine performance was decreased by the circular arc bent pipe and the effects were dominated by its arc angle. The decrease of engine performance was minimized by the arc angle of 180.deg.. By the rectangle pipes the performance was more decreased and the effects were little influenced by its dimensions.
