The Development of Straddle Packer Hydraulic Testing Equipment to Characterize Permeability in Deep Boreholes (장심도 시추공 정밀수리시험 장비 구축)

  • The permeability characterization on the natural barrier for deep geological disposal of radioactive waste is very critical to evaluate total safety and performance assessment of disposal site. However, the confidence level in using previous hydraulic testing equipments consist of simple components to estimate rock mass permeability is not high enough to reflect in situ condition. The purpose of this research is to establish an advanced hydraulic testing equipment, which is applicable to deep borehole (up to 1,000 m), through the improvement of technical problems of previous packer systems. Especially, the straddle packer hydraulic testing equipment was designed to adopt both the hydraulic downhole shut-in valve(H-DHSIV) to minimize the wellbore storage effect and the real time data acquisition system to measure the pressure changes of test interval including its upper and lower parts. The results from this research lead to not only improve current technical level in the field of hydraulic testing but also provide important information to radioactive waste disposal technology development and site characterization project.

  • To enhance the efficiency of national R&D programs, it is the most important thing to establish the optimized evaluation system. This is because the distorted evaluation could be an obstacle to select the best suited research team and lead the desirable research result. In current evaluation process of national R&D program, it is the most frequently used method for eliminating an evaluator's biased view to exclude both the maximum and minimum scores. However, there are several limitations in this stereotype method. Therefore, this study analyzes some real cases to derive the problems from the stereotype method and then recommends the complementary alternatives which can enhance the reliability of the evaluation system for national R&D programs. The results acquired from this study seem to be helpful to increase the agreement of the applicants on the evaluation results and ultimately to maximize the efficiency of national R&D program. In addition, they can be applied to various field with respect to the methodology for ranking decision.

  • Safety regulation of railway embankment is restricted by safety factor in dry season or rainy season in Korea. Safety factor which is results from the limit equilibrium analysis is varied by various external conditions. And because it has no reflection point, it is very difficult to manage the safety of trains. Safety regulation such like warning sign, reduce speed and train stop is the best choice to reduce the damage of embankments where it is worried about occurrence of disasters. In this study, additional index is proposed to support present safety standards based on unsaturated soil mechanics and reliability analysis. It is velocity of failure probability. It has an apparent reflection point near present safety regulation. It is possible to modify the regulation for safety management and monitoring system of embankments by using this index.

Redesigning Electronic Records Preservation Formats Based on Open Formats (공개포맷에 기반한 전자기록 보존 포맷 재설계 방향 연구)

  • Along with the changing computing environment, the production of public documents is moving to G-Cloud and On-nara System, which are re-engineered on G-Cloud. In this process, it is predicted that the Open Document Format (ODF) will replace the proprietary document format, HWP, and will become widely used in the near future. To preserve digital records produced in ODF, this study reviewed the current long-term preservation strategies and identified considerations for new formats. For ODF source files, it is suggested to eliminate the conversion to PDF/A-1 and preserve the documents in the extended ODF with added metadata of records management. Moreover, ODF is presented as an alternative format for preserving proprietary formats. Finally, this study reviewed the current long-term preservation format, i.e., NEO, and suggests a zipped BagIt package, which has an ISO 21320 specification.

Determination of Multi-Lane Loading Factors for Vehicular Load of Bridges using Weigh-In-Motion Data (고속축중계 자료를 이용한 차량하중 다차로재하계수 결정)

  • The purpose of this study is to calculate and propose rational multi-lane loading factors for bridge design considering the probability of simultaneous truck passing in adjacent lanes and real truck weights. The probability of simultaneous truck passing is calculated by analyzing video image taken at various locations in highways and national roads. Weigh-In-Motion system data at two locations are used, which is combined with the probability of multiple presence to calculate the multi-lane loading factors for typical 2 lane and 5 lane bridges. Statistical properties of multi-lane loading factors are also calculated assuming that locations for video images and WIM data represent the overall traffic condition in the country. Results are compared with various design codes in the world and they show that the values are between the current Korea Bridge Design Code and AASHTO LRFD specification or Eurocode and are similar to Canadian Code.

  • 기존 댐저수지 유입량 산정은 수위-저수량곡선에 댐축에서 측정된 수위를 적용하여 시간당 저수량변화를 계산한 후 방류량을 감안하여 산정하고 있으나, 특히 홍수시 저수지내의 수위가 균일하지 않아 유입량 산정 시 오차 원인이 되고 있다. 홍수기 댐 저수지의 운영에 있어서 가장 큰 불확실도를 가지고 있는 유입량의 정확한 모의를 위해서는 유역 상류 유입부 유량뿐 아니라 저수지 내에서의 수위관측 필요하며, 또한 기존 방법에 의한 유입량 계산의 오차 규명 필요하다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해서는 GIS를 이용한 저수지의 저수위-저류량곡선 개선 및 댐저수지 구간별 수위관측을 통한 실시간 홍수 유입량 산정 시스템 도입이 절실히 요구되고 있는 실정이다. 본 연구에서 현행 댐 저수지에서 운영되고 있는 수위관측소를 포함하여 관측지점을 확대하고 실시간 수위관측이 가능한 통신체계를 구축하고자 하였다. 관측지점의 확대는 기존의 문제점을 해결하는데 있어 주요 지점의 수면 프로파일을 구축하여 호내 유입량 산정에 대한 재검토를 진행하고자 하였으며, 이를 위해 구간별 수위 모의가 가능한 HEC-RAS 모형을 이용하여 저수지 내의 수면곡선 분포를 모의하고 저수지 내에서 관측한 수위자료와 비교하였다. 또한 관측된 수위자료의 체계적인 관리 체계 구축을 위해 실시간 모니터링이 가능하고, 통신망의 안전성 확보를 통한 결측 자료가 발생하지 않도록 USN Gateway와 CDMA를 연동하여 통신망을 구성하였다. 나아가, 댐 저수지 유입량 산정에 대한 재검토와 실시간 수위관측 방법에 대한 신기술 도입을 통하여 물관리 부서에 즉시 적용이 가능하도록 유입량 산정 방법과 센서 기술 적용 방법 및 확장성을 제시하였다.

  • Considering that the classified items in the work section level can have an applicability when those items are being used to cost and specification information with consistency, the work section classification code should be applied as an Integrated code system. Our construction industry is using three work section classification systems for civil engineering projects, such as integrated construction information classification system, standard method of measurement and guide of project specification. And each standard construction specification is also using different work section classification systems. This study suggests a methodology to integrate the code systems in construction specifications with civil engineering standard method of measurement. And the methodology suggested in this study was applied to a web-based prototype system with practical specification codes.

  • As buildings are changing variously from the side of use, efficiency and size, the construction qualities are more importantly recognized. Supervision system was enacted in the Residential Building Law in 1990 and responsibility supervision system in the Construction Engineering Management Law in 1994, respectively. However, recently revised supervision system in 2003 has some limitations: the present problems of appointing supervisor, disposing the supervisors, supervisor's works. Therefore, the aim of this study is to improve the present supervision system for mix-use residential building. By implementing the proposed revised supervision system, it will be able to expect quality improvement, confidence of the owner and the user, development of construction technology, and increase international competitiveness of supervision company.

  • A government agency has been announced to increase 23,663 hundred million wons by cost of design change which occurred in the pre-construction and construction phase. As design change is a phenomenon to occur by means of a characteristic of the building design that standardization is difficult, even if it is said that a perfect design is done in design phase, design change is prevented, and it is going to decrease, and there is a limit. Because there are some causes in all of the construction project, it is change order of client, relative system, unfit design and field condition, etc. In this study, we are suggested logic and basic model of the decision making support process model that it should selecting the optimal alternative through complex and quantitative analyzed: that is cost, performance and constructability as respect Owner or CMr is executing project under the CM delivery system construction project which it occurred design change.

  • Recently, operation of highway is the complex digital Infrastructure based on complicated IT. The application of IT is increasing more and more in digital Infrastructure. Though IT is very convenient, if unpredicted operating risk of highway occurs, widespread damage can be large. When operating risk of highway occurs, road users are out of smoothly-run service because of the operating interruption. This risk causes unpredicted operating management cost and additional maintenance cost. It will excess over the planned operating cost, which may leads to users's unsafety and operator's insolvency because of income loss. Until now, related studies to find out the risk are not sufficient. The purpose of this study is to suggest risk cost items and to estimate the reasonable risk cost by using simulation method in case of occurring the huge power failure at the operating digitalized highway. This study indicates the several plans to hedge against risk cost and the management of highway project. From now on, it will be used as basic data to confirm the soundness of operating system in Digital Infrastructure.
