  • The use of the bearing capacity equation is subjected to several uncertainties. In this study, estimation of the bearing capacity of footings based on the cone resistance q$_{c}$ is investigated. Non-linear finite element analyses based on a state-dependent stress-strain model were performed to obtain the load-settlement responses of axially loaded circular footings. Various soil and footing conditions, including different relative densities, depths of embedment, and footing diameters were considered in the analyses. Based on the finite element results, load-settlement curves were obtained and used to determine the unit limit bearing capacity in terms of the cone resistance q$_{c}$ for footings subjected to surcharge. Values of the unit bearing capacity for different embedment depths were in a narrow range, while considerable variation was observed with relative density D$_{R}$. It was observed that the unit limit bearing capacity normalized with respect to q$_{c}$ decreases as D$_{R}$ increases for a given surcharge.

  • In this study, in order to observe the change in the amount of Tire and Road Wear Particles and the ratio of tire components in it according to the tire wear resistance performance, carried out the evaluation by varying the vulcanization reaction design of the tire tread rubber. In addition, in order to improve the reliability of the evaluation of Tire and Road Wear Particles, the evaluation was performed indoor laboratory test equipment that simulates the condition on real driving to exclude various environmental influences including minerals, driver's habits, road surface, weather, tire structure and pattern designs. After the evaluation in closed space, it is estimated that the amount of collected Tire and Road Wear Particles is 84% compared to 100% of the tire and road wear loss weight, of which 96.4~97.7% was around the road and 2.3~3.6% was in the air. As a result of analy sis of the collected Tire and Road Wear particles, the tire component existed 63~75% in the Tire and Road Wear Particles depending on the wear resistance performance of the tire.

  • Power cable tunnels is one of the underground structures meant for electricity transmission and are constructed using shield TBM method when transitting across urban and subsea regions. With the increasing shaft depth for tunnels excavation when the shield TBM excavated the rock mass, the review of selecting closed-type shield TBM in rocks becomes necessary. A simplified shield TBM design method is also necessary based on conventional geotechnical survey results. In this respect, design method and related design program are developed based on combined results of full-scale tests, considerable amount of accumulated TBM data, and numerical simulation results. In order to validate the program results, excavation data of a completed power cable tunnel project are utilized. Thrust force, torque, and power of shield TBM specification are validated using Kernel density concept which estimates the population data. The robustness of design expertise is established through this research which will help in stable provision of electricity supply.

  • The construction timeline for earthworks can be significantly reduced by substituting the conventional layer-by-layer compaction using a vibratory roller with single-layer compaction through the rapid impact compaction (RIC) method. Dynamic load compaction is well-suited for coarse-grained soils like sand. However, as the supply of sand, the primary reclamation material, becomes scarcer, the utilization of soil with fines is on the rise. To implement the dynamic load compaction, such as RIC, with reclaimed materials containing fines, it's imperative to determine the effective improvement depth. In this study, we assess the impact of the RIC method on the effective improvement depth for clean sand and public fill with fines, comparing field test results before and after RIC application. Our focus is on the cone resistance (qc) as it pertains to compaction quality control criteria. In conclusion, it becomes evident that standardizing the cone resistance is vital for the quality control of various reclaimed soils with fines. We have evaluated the compaction quality control criteria corresponding to a relative density (Dr) of 70% for clean sand as Qtn,cs = 110. As a result of this analysis, we propose new quality control criteria for qc, taking into account the fines content of reclaimed soils, which can be applied to RIC quality control.

  • Raman analyzer is an analytical technique that utilizes the "Raman effect", which occurs when light is scattered by the inherent vibrations of molecules. It is used for molecular identification and composition analysis. In the natural gas industry, it is widely used in bunkering and tank lorry fields in addition to LNG export and import terminals. In this study, a LNG-specific Raman analyzer was installed and operated under actual field conditions to analyze the composition and principal properties (calorific value, reference density, etc.) of LNG. The measured LNG composition and calorific value were compared with those obtained by conventional gas chromatograph that are currently in operation and validated. The test results showed that the Raman analyzer provided rapid and stable measurements of LNG composition and calorific value. When comparing the calorific value, which serves as the basis for LNG transactions, with the results from conventional gas chromatograph, the Raman analyzer met the acceptable error criteria. Furthermore, the measurement results obtained in this study satisfied the accuracy criteria of relevant international standards (ASTM D7940-14) and demonstrated similar outcomes compared to large-scale international demonstration cases.
