  • In this paper, we suggested a modified revealed comparative advantage(RRCA) index for identifying regional strategic industries. The index is developed under the assumption that the concentration of industries in Korea is not based entirely on the comparative advantages. The Korean government has set up balanced development strategies since 2003 under the assumption too. The index is the ratio between the comparative advantage index and economic imbalance of the region. By the index, we selected strategic industries for 15 regions under the rule of 1) relative ratio of the index is more than 15%, 2) 1 to 3 regions for a industry according to the industry's output.

  • This paper estimated the technical specialization of UAV system by analyzing related patents. For that, variable indicators such as patent numbers regarding country, subsystem technic, periods and revealed number of patents are used in this paper. RPA and PII index are also used to estimate technical specialization of the coutry. Positive RPA value means superior competitiveness, and vice versa. PII means the quality of the patent. PII value more than 1 means that the quality of the patent is better than others, Otherwise the quality of the patent is worse. This paper estimated the specialization of technologies among countries using above two index.

  • This study, tried to describe the corporations and competitiveness of IT industries in Korea and China as well as the general trend in trade using import-export structure. Further, based on trade intensity index, revealed comparative advantage index, Grubel-Lloyd index, constant market share, the trade structure between Korea and China was analyzed for the equipment in the fields of communication, information, broadcasting and their parts. The results are; first, since 2004, China has been catching up with Korea in the number of their companies listed in the global top 500 conglomerates. Second, the trade intensity index increased in 2007 4.57% up from 2002, showing increasingly closer connection between the two countries in the area of communications equipment. Third, according to revealed comparative advantage index, Korea's info-communications equipment seems to comparatively lag behind, but in terms of import-export structure is in the black. Fourth, in recent years, Korean equipment's market share in the Chinese market has been dropped due to the weakening competitiveness and the changing commodity supplies.

  • In this study, we compared and analyzed the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) and Trade Specialization Index (TSI) based on ballast water management systems (BWMS) trade data, which are related to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Ballast Water Management Convention to suggest the current status of Korea's industrial competitiveness and suggest future development directions for the BWMS industry. As international interest in eco-friendly vessels is expanding, the IMO is engaged in dramatic discussions and agreement-making related to marine emissions of pollutants from ships. IMO member states that must implement this convention are striving to develop technology and secure industrial competitiveness as major industries in the eco-friendly shipping sector, with the BWMS industry experiencing a high market entry barrier and the possibility of the leading market entrants gaining leadership. The Republic of Korea accounts for 17 (approximately 38 %) of the 45 BWMS that received final approval as of October 2019. Based on trade data relating to product codes HS842219, HS84212, and HS89, the RCA index and TSI were calculated and compared. The findings revealed that the Republic of Korea has relative inferiority compared to countries such as Germany and Denmark. Despite this, Korea's favorable industrial environment, which includes several IMO-approved BWMS technologies and the possession of domestic certification institutions, is likely to strengthen its competitiveness in the BWMS market.

  • When it comes to current balance, both of Korea and China enjoy the trade surplus in goods while both countries suffer trade deficit in service. This facts demonstrate that two countries have comparative disadvantages in service industry. In order to identify the international competitiveness of trade in service between Korea and China, several indexes such as TSI, RSCA and IMS was calculated, using the IMF's balance of payments (BOP) statistics as proxy. The results of this analysis are as follows. Korea has a comparative advantage in four sectors (Transportation services, Financial services, Royalties & license fees and Personal cultural recreation), while China has a comparative advantage in five sectors (Travel, Communication services, Insurance services, Computer & information services and Other Business services). Construction services are indeterminate. However, the competitiveness of the two sectors-communication and computer & information-which China has a comparative advantage will be transferred to Korea if some effort to reinforce the competitiveness is added because the gap is being narrowed.

  • Global production networks (GPNs) emerged as multinational companies strategically relocated different stages of their value chain over many regions. Since GPNs require moving materials, parts, components and finished products across national borders multiple times, as well as coordinating it efficiently, they are intensified further within an integrated region. Within the region, developed countries which enjoy a comparative advantage in higher value-added tasks specialize in the production of ICT parts and components and exhibit high export RCA indices while developing countries show high import RCA indices. But, as developing countries upgrade technological capabilities and achieve industrial upgrading through participation in GPNs, their level of sophistication improves. East Asian countries have participated in GPNs to a greater degree when compared to countries in other regions because of a variety of factors. They have benefited much as shown by a significant increase in the level of ICT sophistication and export shares, which in turn led to uneven regional developments of GPNs in the ICT parts and components industry.

  • Korea's export economy across all industries are affected by the rise of China. The field of cosmetics can not be an exception. Expansion of the export of Chinese cosmetic goods can bring a greater concern to the export of Korea. Therefore, comparing the competitiveness of cosmetics in China and Korea will propose Implications for export growth strategy. To this end, comparing Korea cosmetic product's competitiveness with China, Revealed Comparative Advantage Index (RCA), Trade Specialization Index (TSI) and the status of import and export countries were comprehensively analyzed. In the case of Korea, items that have a competitive over China were No. 330499 and No. 330510. The following items in proportion were No. 330430 and No. 330590. By strengthening its position of these four items as major export items of Korea Cosmetics, export growth strategy in China and other markets around the world is needed.

This study presented current trends and future prospects on China's economic situation. The changes of China's economic growth are the reduction of economic growth rate, falling proportion of processing trade, and the competition relationship of two countries. So they will be analyzed on this study. And this study presents ways that Korea economy reacts for China's economic growth slowdown. Trade statistics system of Korea International trade Association(KITA) is leveraged for this analysis. For competition relationship analysis, I analyze to use Contribution to the Trade Balance, Trade Specialization Index, Revealed Comparative Advantage of Country.
