  • Airborne or spaceborne remote sensing can increase the efficiency of seabed material surveys compared with field surveying using a vessel. For the same seabed material, the optical remote sensing image shows variation in the reflectance depending on the water depth, which is due to the absorption and scattering by the water column. This study suggests a correction procedure to use the hyperspectral image for seabed material analysis. The study is conducted in the coastal area from Sacheonjin Port to Gyungpo Beach in Gangwon-do. The hyperspectral image is acquired using the CASI-1500 sensor. The diffuse attenuation coefficient is estimated for each band through regression models between the water reflectance and depth. Then, the coefficient is applied to each band of the image. As a result, the completely corrected image can be interpreted for a deeper area, although the interpretable area is very shallow without water column correction. Additionally, the water column corrected image shows decreased variation of reflectance with various water depths.

  • Remote sensing data is used to increasing efficiency on benthic cover type survey. Satellite and aerial imagery has variance of reflectance by water column effect even if bottom is consisted with same cover type and condition. This study tried to analyze advances of surveying extent and accuracy through water column correction of CASI-1500 hyperspectral image. Study area is coast of Gangneung city, South Korea where benthic environment is rapidly changing with bleaching of coral reef. Water column correction coefficient was estimated using regression models between water reflectance ($R_W$) and depth for sand bottom then the coefficients were applied to whole image. The results shows that expanded interpretable depth from 6-7m to 15m and decreased variation of reflectance by depth. Additionally, water column corrected reflectance image shows 13%p increased accuracy on benthic cover type classification.

  • Numerical analysis for the Bragg reflection due to a sinusoidally and a doubly-sinusoidally varying seabeds was performed by using a couple of ordinary differential equations derived from the Boussinesq equations. Incident waves are a train of cnoidal waves. The effects of the dispersion and shape of seabed were investigated. It is shown that the reflection of a sinusoidally varying seabed is enhanced by increasing the dispersion and the amplitude of a seabed. The reflection of waves over a doubly-sinusoidally varying seabed can also be enhanced by increasing the amplitude of seabed decreasing the difference of wave numbers of seabed components.

  • An analytical solution of dynamic responses for seabed in finite and infinite thicknesses including shallow has been developed under flow and partial standing wave with arbitrary reflection ration coexisting field at a constant water depth condition. In the analytical solution, a field was simply transited to a coexisting field of progressive wave and flow when reflection ratio was 0 and to a coexisting field of fully standing wave and flow when reflection ratio was 1. Based on the Biot's consolidation theory, the seabed was assumed as a porous elastic media with the assumptions that pore fluid is compressible and Darcy law governs the flow. The developed analytical solution was compared with the existing results and was verified. Using the analytical solution the deformation, pore pressure, effective and shear stresses were examined under various given values of reflection ratio, flow velocity, incident wave's period and seabed thickness. From this study, it was confirmed that the dynamic response of seabed was quite different depending on consideration of flow, which causes changing period and length of incident and reflection waves. It was also confirmed that dynamic response significantly depends on the magnitude of reflection ratio.

  • In this study, the Bragg resonant of cnoidal waves propagating over a sinusoidally varying topography lying on a uniformly sloping beach is investigated. The governing equations derived from the Boussinesq equations are numerically integrated. The effects of fast varying terms and nonlinearity in reflection coefficients are also examined. Variation of reflection coefficient for different sloping beaches is studied. It is found that reflection coefficients are not strongly dependent on slopes of beaches.

  • Most analytical solutions for wave-induced soil response have been mainly developed to investigate the influence of the progressive and standing waves on the seabed response in an infinite seabed. This paper presents a new analytical solution to the governing equations considering the wave-induced soil response for the partial standing wave fields with arbitrary reflectivity in a porous seabed of finite thickness, using the effective stress based on Biot's theory (Biot, 1941) and elastic foundation coupled with linear wave theory. The newly developed solution for wave-seabed interaction in seabed of finite depth has wide applicability as an analytical solutions because it can be easily extended to the previous analytical solutions by varying water depth and reflection ratio. For more realistic wave field, the partial standing waves caused by the breakwaters with arbitrary reflectivity are considered. The analytical solutions was verified by comparing with the previous results for a seabed of infinite thickness under the two-dimensional progressive and standing wave fields derived by Yamamoto et al.(1978) and Tsai & Lee(1994). Based on the analytical solutions derived in this study, the influence of water depth and wave period on the characteristics of the seabed response for the progressive, standing and partial standing wave fields in a seabed of finite thickness were carefully examined. The analytical solution shows that the soil response (including pore pressure, shear stress, horizontal and vertical effective stresses) for a seabed of finite thickness is quite different in an infinite seabed. In particular, this study also found that the wave-induced seabed response under the partial wave conditions was reduced compared with the standing wave fields, and depends on the reflection coefficient.

  • Numerical simulations were implemented to look into the modified seabed topography due to the presence of breakwaters of varying reflection characteristics. The numerical model was composed of OlaFlow, an OpenFoam-based tool box, and a physics-based morphology model [Seoul Foam]. In doing so, the interaction between the seabed, which undergoes deformation due to siltation and scouring, and the incoming waves was described using Dynamic Mesh. The rubble-mound, vertical, and curved slit caisson breakwaters with varying reflection characteristics resulted in standing waves that differ from each other, shown to have a significant influence on the seabed topography. These results are in line with Nielsen's study (1993) that sands saltated under the surface nodes of standing waves, where the near-bed velocities are most substantial, convected toward the surface antinodes by boundary-layer drift. Moreover, the crest of sand waves was formed under the surface antinodes of standing waves, and the trough of sand waves was formed under the surface antinodes. In addition, sand wave amplitude reaches its peak in the curved slit caisson with a significant reflection coefficient, and the saltation of many grains of sand would cause this phenomenon due to the increased near-bed velocity under the nodes when the reflection coefficient is getting large.
