The effect of creativity, absorptive capacity and strategic orientation on the distribution strategy of foreign market entry : Focused on Game Industry (해외시장 진입전략에서 창의성과 흡수역량, 전략적 지향성이 미치는 효과에 대한 연구: 게임산업을 중심으로)

  • Game industry, one of cultural-content industry which is considered as a typical knowledge-based industry and creative industry, is not like the overseas expansion of traditional manufacture, and has different strategy and performance of export expansion through product or project-based strategy. Therefore, it should be approached by each content unit, and necessary to look at the factors that make their decision makings of foreign market entry vary. This study focuses on discovering creativity, absorptive capacity and strategic orientation(market orientation and innovation orientation) which affect the difference of distribution's decision making of entry into foreign market in game industry This paper examined 252 cases of online games in order to investigate creativity, absorptive capacity and strategic orientations for each foreign market and what entry type(among licensing, joint distribution, exclusive distribution) they chose according to the products developed in team level. This helps us analyze the factors affecting market orientation and innovation orientation in the perspectives of creativity and absorptive capacity in comprehensive way, and notice the phenomena which use different foreign distribution strategy though there are company incorporated abroad and their results. This study supplements the limit of the existing Resource-Based View, Resource-Dependent View, and traditional international business theories such as Transaction Cost Theory or OLI Paradigm(Eclectic Framework), and proves how company could reduce asymmetry of uncertainty and information in creative industry and whether they accomplish successful overseas expansion according to strategic orientations.

Korean Fashion Firms' Entry into Foreign Markets: Empirical Analysis of Determinants of their Choice of Foreign Direct Investment Modes (한국 패션기업의 해외시장 진입방식 연구: 해외직접투자 유형의 결정요인 분석을 중심으로)

  • This study analyzes the determinants of the choice of foreign direct investment mode by Korean fashion firms in entering into foreign markets. We have established hypotheses regarding their choice among three classical entry modes including a wholly-owned subsidiary, a joint venture and an M&A based on factors such as the investing firm's size, international experience and international strategy type, host market potentials, cultural distance and foreign investment risk. By conducting multiple logistic regression over secondary data on 100 Korean fashion firms, we found that all variables but cultural distance were statistically significant. The results may contribute to advancing international business theory on the fashion industry and developing fashion firms' global strategy.

  • Advances in technology are bringing a lot of change.. Due to Korea's economic growth, domestic companies are expanding overseas unlike in the past.. Recently, many small and medium-sized companies, in addition to large companies, are making inroads in Southeast Asian markets thanks to the Korean Wave. This study used the international academic database scopus to identify trends in the company's overseas expansion strategy. A search was conducted under the title of the word overseas advancement strategy, which secured a total of 153 papers. Abstracts of the research paper were refined for analysis and then analyzed using KoNLP package. As a result, 10 important keywords were derived. The purpose of this study is to identify the research trends of companies in overseas market through these results. This study provides a guideline for future research on overseas expansion strategies.

  • Exporting plays the important role in reducing dependence on the domestic market by creating the new foreign markets. As a business strategy, exporting contributes to the national growth and provides firms with opportunities which enable economies of scale, economies of scope, and experience curve effects. Because of both the growth limitation of the domestic market and development of information technology, many firms enter in foreign markets by increasing exporting. Using firms located in Taegu, this study examined the factors of firms' exporting with industrial organization theory and strategic perspective. In the empirical results on industrial organization theory, systematic cooperation and governmental supporting positively affect firms' exporting and only systematic cooperation positively affects exporting performance. In the empirical results on strategic perspective, product differentiation foreign exporting network, and foreign entry nation positively affect firms' exporting, and foreign exporting network, and foreign entry nation positively affect exporting performance.

  • ESCO협회는 12일 오후 2시 JW메리어트호텔에서 '선진 에너지절약전문기업(ESCO:Energy Service Company) 시장 진출 전략 설명회'를 개최했다. 이번 설명회는 미국, 호주 에너지 관리전문 기업을 연사로 초청해 우리기업에게 에너지 절약방안을 설명하고, 선진 ESCO시장에 진출할 기회를 모색해 보고자 마련됐다. 이번 설명회에서는 에너지관리 분야에 기술력을 보유하고 있으면서도 미국, 캐나다, 호주 등 선진시장에 대한 정보가 부족하여 ESCO 시장진출에 애로를 겪고 있는 기업들을 위해 마련되었다. 이에 해외 ESCO 시장 진출에 필요한 최신 정보를 접할 수 있도록 각국의 구체적인 사례 중심으로 발표가 구성되었다. 이번 행사는 중소기업청이 주최하고, KOTRA와 ESCO 협회가 공동주관했다.

  • 정보통신분야에서도 IMF 위기극복의 타개책의 하나로 해외시장 개척 및 진출확대를 촉진하는 방향으로 정책의 기조가 전환되고 있다. 본 고에서는 지난 15여 년 간 선진 통신장비 업체들의 해외진출 실태 파악을 통해 그 특성과 유형을 분석함으로써, 향후 국내 통신업계의 해외진출 전략수립 시 고려해야 할 몇 가지 시사점을 제시하였다.

  • As most companies in the world are much interested in the overseas market as well as in the domestic market, many Korean food service enterprises came to focus on extending their branches to the overseas market. However, lack of business strategies including market research, marketing strategies, localization, etc. has made them continue to fail in market entry. The purpose of this study is to develop entry mode of determinants of Korean food service enterprises, considering their characteristic factors and environment factors in the overseas market. To do this, companies which have a head quarter in Korea and over 2 year business experience in the overseas market were chosen and used for a self-administered questionnaire survey. Statistical processing, including descriptive statistics, logistic regressing analysis, and multi regression analysis using an SPSS/PC 12.0 statistical package were conducted The result is as follows. First, explanation suitability was 85% of the entry mode in the overseas market. Second, as business size was smaller, product differentiation was higher, and CEO's will for success in the overseas market was higher, independent entry mode in the overseas market was likely to he chosen. Lastly, as the uncertainty of demand and trade barrier were lower, and a sociocultural gap was smaller, independent entry mode in the overseas market was likely to be chosen.

  • Global cosmetic corporations take about 40% of Korean cosmetic market in a short period, and will expand their share rate. Furthermore, Korean main cosmetic market channel has been changed from cosmetic shop to diverse channels in accordance with Korean consumer's trends. Therefore, Korean cosmetic corporations must response to the global competitors and the changed market factors simultaneously with an effective business strategy. This paper suggests the effective business strategy to keep and raise the market share against the global cosmetic corporations, and response to the changed market situation.
