Properties of Biopolymer YU-122 from Metarrhizium anisopliae (Metschn.) Sorok (Metarrhizium anisopliae (Metschn.) Sorok이 생산하는 Biopolymer YU-122의 물리, 화학적 특성)

  • A new biopolymer YU-122 from Metarrhizium anisopliae (Metschn.) Sorok consisting of glucose and galactose was tested for its physical properties and flow behavior characteristics. Xanthan gum showed slightly higher viscosity than biopolymer YU-122. Viscosity of biopolymer YU-122 at various pHs and temperatures was also tested. The viscosity of biopolymer YU-122 was very stable up to pH 11 and $60^{\circ}C$, indicating that it has a great possibility for the application such as food additives, emulsifier, and drug release agents. Flow behavior index (n) from Power Law equation is 0.173. Biopolymer YU-122 solution was a pseudoplastic non-Newtonian fluid, which indicated that it had one or more side chains. When biopolymer YU-122 was used as a emulsifier, it stabilized the emulsion up to 120 hours, which was much better than xanthan gum. The biopolymer YU-122 could form an excellent but less clear film compared with xanthan and pullulan.

  • This study summarized the results of the international ocean reanalysis intercomparison project. We introduced the characteristics of various ocean reanalysis systems and analyzed the assimilated performance on the typical eight oceanic variables (heat content, steric height, sea level, surface heat fluxes, mixed layer depth, subsurface salinity, depth of $20^{\circ}C$ isotherm, sea ice). In general, ensemble means show better estimations than those of any individual ocean reanalysis, but it depends on analyzed regions and variables. Among the eight oceanic variables, salinity and sea ice variabilities have large spreads among models. The deep sea, Southern Ocean, and coastal regions including western boundary current commonly appear as the areas with largest uncertainty between different objective analyses and assimilation models. We expect that intercomparison project for the ocean assimilation models independently operated in Korea should be processed, which allows us to join relevant international programs in the near future.

  • Various types of ice distribution under low temperature greatly influence the environment of the Arctic and Antarctic Oceans. To understand fundamentals of ice properties such as Polar glaciers, icebergs and sea ice, this study focuses on the material behaviors and failure mechanisms of polycrystalline ice. Utilizing the continuum damage theory, a three-dimensional constitutive model to describe creep deformation characteristics in the glacial flow is developed in consideration of micro-cracking as the major physical process of ice deformation. The numerical model is compared with the published experimental data especially in uniaxial constant stress creep tests. The model can simulate primary and secondary creeps as well as tertiary creep characteristics due to the microcrack accumulation.

  • In the cold and temperate regions of Korea the icing and ice coats on 25[kV] electric car line during winter is a very serious problem. This generates shocks at the mechanical interface of the collecting strips of the pantograph and the contact wire and extra electrical resistance, which may affect quality of current collection at the contact wire / collecting strips of pantograph interface. De-icing operations should be performed just before train operation to avoid the formation of another ice layer. This paper presents temperature analysis of the de-icing system which could be applied to the electric car line of railways.

  • The ice coats are built on 25 kV overhead contact wire when the temperature is lower than $0^{\circ}C$. It generates shockwaves at the mechanical interface of the collecting strips of the pantograph and the contact wire. The de-icing processes should be performed to avoid shockwaves which are generated by a pulsed high-voltage arc discharge. This paper presents temperature analysis of the de-icing effects which could be applied to the overhead contact wire of railways using Joule heat. The results show that 350 A is the proper current for $0^{\circ}C$ conductor according to environmental condition such as velocity of air stream, ambient temperature and moisture.

  • During the winter and spring seasons in Korea, structures such as buried water supply pipelines, roads, railways are frequently damaged due to frost heaving and thawing. Until now, the method of substituting the frost susceptible soil with the gravel or rubbles those are non-frost susceptible materials have been employed in Korea to prevent frost heaving. A series of laboratory soil tests and indoor frozen soil engineering experiments, as well as laboratory frost heaving tests were conducted for seeking the means of utilizing recycled PET bottles as substitute material.

  • 북극 다산기지가 있는 니알슨 인근 해역인 Kongsfjorden만은 일부 해역이 해빙으로 덮혀 있는 반폐쇄적인 만으로 수심이 평균 200m 이상 된다. 이곳 북극 지방은 하절기 라도 태양의 고도가 낮아 해색위성분야의 극지활용에 대한 가능성 여부도 명확하게 알려져 있지 못하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 북극 다산기지가 위치한 스발바드 군도의 니알슨 주변 해역(Kongsfjorden 해역)을 중심으로 2006년 8월 현장관측된 자료들을 유사한 시기의 한반도 주변 해역에서 현장관측된 자료들과 비교/분석하여 해양환경적 특성과 해수광학적인 특성이 어떤 차이가 있는지를 비교 분석하였다. 또한 북극 지방에서 인공위성을 이용한 해색위성자료의 극지활용이 가능한지를 검토하였다. 해수의 광 특성으로, 니알슨 주변 해역의 ${\alpha}^*_{ph}(440)$ 최대값은 $0.1m^2/mg$으로 한반도 주변해수의 ${\alpha}^*_{ph}(440)$ 최대값보다 약 2배정도 높게 측정되어 플랑크톤의 광 흡수효율이 중위도보다 상대적으로 높은 것으로 분석되었다. ${\alpha}^*_{ss}(440)$ 값은 $0.04-0.1m^2/g$으로 동중국해와 유사하며,한반도 주변해수보다 높은 값을 나타냈다. 이것은 Kongsfjorden 해역의 부유물질(SS) 구성성분이 동중국해와 유사한 무기광물 입자로 주로 구성되어 있음을 보여주고 있다. ${\alpha}_{dom}(400)$ 값은 $0.08-0.25m^{-1}$로 한반도 주변해수의 ${\alpha}_{dom}(400)$이 값과 유사하고 연안해역의 ${\alpha}_{dom}(400)$ 값보다 낮은 값을 나타냈다. $E_d(460)$의 평균값은 Konsfjorden 해역 $40mW/cm^2/{\mu}m$, 동중국해 $120mW/cm^2/{\mu}m$, 황해남부 $110mW/cm^2/{\mu}m$, 남해연안 $100mW/cm^2/{\mu}m$, 진해만 $100mW/cm^2/{\mu}m$이었다. 이와 같은 현장관측결과를 토대로 분석한 북극 다산기지 주변 해역의 해수광학적인 환경 특성은 용존유기물의 흡광도를 기준으로 볼 때 대양(Open Sea)의 광 특성과 유사하였다. 또한 북극지방에서 태양의 해수 입사 광량은 중위도의 약 40%정도이지만 해색위성자료의 극지활용이 가능하다고 판단되었다.

Effects of Cryopreservation on the Seed Germination and Growth Properties of Seedlings of Maackia amurensis (초저온 저장이 다릅나무 종자의 발아와 유묘의 생장특성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate effects of cryopreservation by vitrification on the seed germination rate and growth and physiological properties of seedlings of Maackia amurensis. Cryopreservation significantly decreased the germination rate of seeds of M. amurensis, but the reduction of germination rate was mitigated by the treatment of cryoprotectant (plant vitrification solution, PVS2) before plugging into liquid nitrogen and fast thawing rate after cryopreservation. Long-term PVS2 exposure decreased seed germination rate, whereas cryopreservation time didn't have influence on seed germination rate. In addition, growth and physiological properties of seedlings were not affected by PVS2 exposing time and cryopreservation time. Therefore cryopreservation could be widely used as a technique of long-term ex situ conservation without any damage and deterioration of cells or tissues of the forest seeds. However, in order to increase the effect of cryopreservation, we have to develope the lower toxic cryoprotectant and suitable techniques to the structural or chemical properties of a variety of seeds.

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the characteristics on the profile of local ice load acting on side shell of port side in bow part due to broken ice during icebreaking of ships in ice covered waters. The first Korean icebreaking research vessel 'ARAON' had a sea ice field trial in the Arctic Sea during early August, 2010, and the signals due to local ice impact measured from several strain gauges installed at bow part were gathered. It is known that these data with structural response characteristics due to local ice impact have some different characteristics with a typical hydraulic impact pressure - time history. In this study, the time history on the measured signals was analyzed and the characteristic values were presented using non-dimensional parameters.
