  • Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar(ISAR) image is 2-dimensional radar cross section distributions of a target. For target approaching along radar's line of sight(LOS), the bistatic ISAR can compensate for the weakness of the monostatic ISAR which can not obtain the vertical resolution of the image. However, bistatic ISAR have longer processing times and variability in scattering mechanisms than monostatic ISAR, so target identification using only bistatic ISAR images can be inefficient. Therefore, this paper analyzes target identification performance using monostatic and bistatic ISAR images of targets approaching along radar's LOS and proposes a method of target identification through fusion of two radars. Simulation results demonstrate that identification performance through fusion is more efficient than identification performance using only monostatic, bistatic ISAR images.

  • In the face of escalating utilization of the marine spatial domain, conflicts have emerged among stakeholders, necessitating effective management strategies beyond conventional government permits and regulations. Particularly within the domain of aquaculture, operational oversight relies on a localized licensing system, posing challenges in accurately assessing the prevailing circumstances. This research employs synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery as a tool to monitor coastal aquaculture fish farms, aimed at enhancing insights into management protocols. Leveraging Sentinel-1A imagery and time series SAR data integration, a superimposition technique is utilized, facilitating noise reduction while retaining crucial information regarding smaller-scale facilities, such as fish farms. Through analysis of VH polarization data, a detection overall accuracy of approximately 88% for coastal fish farms was achieved. The findings of this study offer potential applications in the continuous monitoring of aquaculture farms in correspondence with seasonal variations in aquaculture yields, thereby proposing frameworks for the establishment of effective management cycles for marine space utilization.

  • Remote sensing of SAR images is suitable for sea ice observations to obtain the sea ice data if clouds or weather conditions change. There are various types of sea ice, classification results can be seen more easily to detect the change by types of sea ice. In this study, we classified the image by supervised classification method, which is minimum distance was used. Also, we compared the overall accuracy when compared to the results with classification result of SAR images and the result of texture images. When using Radarsat-2 texture images, the overall accuracy was the highest, generally, when using the SAR images had higher overall accuracy.

  • This paper describes SCTE(System and Control unit Test Equipment) as an integrated test equipment for airborne SAR system and control unit. SCTE enhances reusability of test equipment by modular design for required functions and strengthens automatic testing and test convenience by providing functions such as script-based testing function and report generation function. Also, it includes a navigation data simulator which can simulate various flight conditions. In this paper, we details SCTE requirements, H/W and S/W design, implementation, and test results with control unit and SAR system.

  • The goal of the paper is to discuss the recent trend of the configuration of high resolution LEO(Low Earth Orbit) EO(Earth Observation) satellites. The satellite configuration is decided by considering several factors such as mission, payloads, launch vehicle, propulsion and attitude control module. The advent of commercial companies selling satellite's images in 2000's requires additional changes of the satellite system to be capable of obtaining many high resolution images quickly. In order to meet customer's needs, the overall configuration of satellites is designed to be compact and stable without the loss of structural integrity and reliability. Among design changes, the configuration change of satellites is treated intensively in the paper.

  • In this paper, the design and fabrication of slot array in the broad wall of the waveguide for Ka-band monopulse radar are discussed. The aperture distributions are designed for the desired antenna gain, beamwidth and Side-lobe Level(SLL), and then slot parameters, such as lengths and offsets, are obtained for corresponding to each slot admittance in the equivalent circuit by using Elliot's array synthesis procedure. MWS-CST simulation shows the return loss below -10 dB, antenna gain above 32 dBi, 3 dB beamwidth of 3.7 degree and SLL of -20 dB. In order to demonstrate the expected results, the designed antenna is fabricated and measured.

  • PGA(phase gradient autofocus) has been widely used to remove motion induced phase errors in the ISAR(inverse synthetic aperture radar) imaging. The critical process for the processing time and image quality is windowing stage in PGA. In this paper, the new method to determine window size based on polynomial least square approximation is proposed. Moreover, dominant range bins are selected for efficient phase error estimation, which improve image quality and speed up convergence. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm provides high quality ISAR images while computational efficiency of inherent PGA is retained.

  • In this paper, we suggest a measurement modeling of the RF seeker using the ISAR(Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar) image. Reference scattering points are extracted first from ISAR images which are changed according to target attitude. And then uncertainties included in RF seeker measurement such as noise strength, blink, and boresight error are added to the reference scattering points. The proposed measurement model of the RF seeker can be used to develop various kinds of target tracking algorithms.

  • In this paper we suggested the chirp stitching algorithm and transmitter/receiver channel to a spaceborne high resolution SAR which enables wideband signal generation and processing with minimum hardware requirement. The transmitter channel generates two sub-band signals and then generate a wideband signal using chirp stitching algorithm and the receiver channel divides a wideband signal into two sub-band signals in order to overcome the high speed data handling capability of this spaceborne systems. We generated and processed a 100 MHz wideband signal evaluated the performance and verified the feasibility of the application of this chirp stitching algorithm and transmitter/receiver channel to spaceborne high resoultion SAR.

  • One of the key factors for recognition performance in the automatic target recognition for synthetic aperture radar imagery(SAR-ATR) system is reliability of the SAR target database. To achieve optimal performance, the database should be constructed using the images obtained under the same operating condition as the SAR sensor. However, it is impractical to have the extensive set of real-world SAR images, and thus those from the electro magnetic prediction tool with 3-D CAD models are suggested as an alternative where their reliability can be always questionable. In this paper, a method for similarity assessment between target SAR images is presented inspired by the fact that a target SAR image is mainly characterized by the features of scattering centers. The method is demonstrated using a variety of examples and quantitatively measures the similarity related to reliability. Its assessment performance is further compared with that of the existing metric, structural similarity(SSIM).
