A Study on Road Safety Evaluation Method for Improvement Project of Two-Lane Road (2차로 시설개량 사업의 도로 안전성 평가방법 연구)

  • Recently, the paradigm of road policy has been focused on user safety. Recently, the number of road facility improvement project has been continuously increased but the economic feasibility (B/C ratio) is insufficient. Therefore, it is necessary to select a reasonable road improvement project through accurate and objective analysis of the road safety evaluation. In this study, to develop a new road safety evaluation method, data were collected based on the current road safety evaluation method for 75 routes including national roads and provincial ones. Based on the collected data, problems were analyzed and utilized as the basic factors of the new road safety evaluation method. Therefore, in this study, traffic accidents were reflected as a general evaluation item by weighing to solve these problems, and the evaluation items were added from experiences and ideas of the local public officials. For each evaluation item, a reasonable weight was determined through AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) questionnaire evaluation with highway experts. In addition, the safety index was determined based on the evaluation criteria for each evaluation item. The criteria for evaluating the danger zone are determined by the overall safety index. Finally, the criteria for selection of road improvement projects based on the overall risk level were derived.

Applications of high resolution satellite image in road alignment design (도로의 최적노선 선정시 고해상도 위성영상의 활용 방안)

  • Nowadays, digital maps of 1:5,000 scale are used to plan and review far road alignment design. However, the updating and modifying period of digital maps is not so harmonious as topographical changes caused by rapid developments can be reflected in digital maps, the different areas between real surface and digital map can be found easily. This research is aimed to suggest that the use of high resolution satellite image is effective way to get latest topographical information for road alignment design about wide region. IKONOS satellite images were geometrically corrected, and the road alignment data previously designed by traditional procedure were overlapped on the satellite images. As a result, the satellite image maps clearly described wrong road alignment, and modification of road alignment could be accomplished adequately By these procedures, road alignment design was Improved in quality, and could be reasonable and economic design to prevent modification that would be happened in the next step of practical plan. For the geometric correction method of IKONOS images, Thin Plate Spline(TPS) transformation with large number of ground control points, as well as ortho rectification, was effective.

  • International construction market have quantitatively increased and have reached up to 700 Bil. US$ through active effort of construction firms and government. In spite of this increase, substantiality issue has been constantly disputed due to qualitative problems such as lack of capability and technical shortage. To overcome these problems, many methods in performing quantitative growth and qualitative substantiality of overseas construction are being researched which showed that selection of subcontractors in general contractor is regarded as a very important success factor. However, it is difficult to make a reasonable decision for selecting the subcontractors due to the lack of evaluation standards and reliability. This study proposes an improved evaluation system through adjustment of the evaluation indicators using correlations analysis and multiple regression analysis with pre-qualification and performance evaluation of 121 firms in 6 countries.

  • Considerable amount of resources on roads, basic infrastructure, to promote economic development and distribution of goods is invested. Despite the necessity, its undesirable side effects are various environmental problems In order to efficiently evaluate these problems more than before, planning indictors for environment-friendly road constructions is proposed in this study. First, we make an investigation into real-life cases where the extracted planning indicators were applied. Second, it is suggested that an alternative assessment method efficaciously evaluate and/or adopt extracted planning indictors on road construction projects. Finally, criteria to determine environmental impacts with respect to planning indicators and apply them into real cases is proposed. This study has its significance in upgrading past pro-environmental indictors for road construction, suggesting reasonable applications of planning indicators, and setting criteria to determine environmental impacts based on planning indicators.

  • Currently, local regulations, such as KS Code, do not clearly specify how to calculate the range of hazardous area, so the dispersion modeling program should be used to select dispersion. The purpose of this study is to present a methodology of determining the range of hazardous area which is simpler and more reasonable than modelling by using representative materials and process conditions. Based on domestic and overseas regulations that are currently in effect, variables affecting distance to LFL(Lower Flammable Limit) were selected. A total of 16 flammable substances were modelled for substance variables, process conditions variables, and weather conditions variables, and the statistical analysis selected the variables that affect them. Using the selected variables, a three-step classification method was prepared to select the range of locations subject to explosion hazard.

  • Even though the similar land price zone is very important element in the public land appraisal procedure, the concept is implicitly described and applied into the actual land appraisal system. This situation makes it worse when applying for the automatic selection of a comparative standard land parcel. In addition, the division of similar land price zones requires the objective and reasonable process for improving ALPAS(Automatic land Price Appraisal System), which becomes an issue today. To solve the similar land price zone determination problem that is caused by the lack of objective numerical standard, this study proposed a similar land price zone determination method using a hybrid clustering technique. Results showed that this hybrid clustering method that applied into the test area could easily detect similar land price zones with considerable accuracy levels, which are verified with some test statistics and real comparative standard land parcels done by manually.

  • The economic development and the development of medical treatment by scientific technology development progressed the level of national people life and improved average life gradually. In this reason, old people who have finance power would like to receive a comport and high level service, though paying proper expense. In this study, receiving this requirement, we focused that silver town have reasonable and comfortable residing environment in developing rural and rest form silver town objecting external area of Chon-Ju city, and selected land suitability. Through the learning of the neural network theory in the method of land suitability, we applied in the full of study area and improved a flexible determination making as giving each class value in each cell. Also, we compare a method of land suitability using the neural network theory, and it's analysis with a method of land suitability by the duplication method of Boolean Logic have been used In Geo Spatial Information System(GSIS) and proved the Boolean Logic's lose of values and the propriety.

  • Though many techniques for the damage assessment of structures have been studied recently, most of them can be only applied to simple structures. Therefore, practical damage assessment techniques that evaluate the damage location and the damage state for large structures need to be developed. In this study, a damage assessment technique using a neural network is developed, in which the bilevel damage assessment procedure is proposed to evaluate the damage of a large structure from the limited monitoring data. The procedure is as follows ; first, for the rational selection of damage critical members, the members that affect the probability of failure or unusual structural behavior are selected by sensitivity analysis. Secondly, the monitoring points and the number of sensors that are sensitive to the damage severity of the selected members are also selected through the sensitivity analysis with a proposed sensitivity measurement format. The validity and applicability of the developed technique are demonstrated by various examples, and it has been shown that the practical information on the damage state of the selected critical members can be assessed even though the limited monitoring data have been used.

  • Recently, the government has improvement projects of dangerous road for the site that has very high accident rate due to bad geometric structures of the road. Although, route selecting of the road is a basic and important process, but the process of route selecting must consider the technical, safety and environment factor together. Also, the technology for the 3-dimensional terrain model can be used as an important factor in planning and designing for selecting alternative route projects. In the course of experimenting with the 3-dimensional topography generated by the combination of the digital map and drawing of route, the technology as been developed to offer the multi-dimensional access to the potential construction sites from the nearby main roads. This 3-dimensional digital elevation model has made it possible to make various terrain analysis base on GIS, which provides real-time virtual access to the designated construction sites for development planning and construction projects. Therefore, this study presents a reasonable plan for route selecting from some alternative routes through subjective evaluation and classify the methods linked basic design of road construction.

A Case Study on AHP Technique Application for the Reinforcing Method Selection on a Cut-Slope (절토사면 보강기법 선정에 있어서 AHP기법 적용에 관한 사례연구)

  • In this study, to determine the priority of the effect factors and the preferences of commonly used reinforcing methods for the cut-slope, the reasonable analysis using AHP technique was performed. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) technique is the most widely used method out of all existing decision making methods. On choosing the methods, the most important factor is analyzed to be the stability and durability. Stability, durability and environmental compatibility took up over 50% of the total contributing factors. Cut-slope reinforced method preference with increasing stability method confirmed that concrete retaining wall, reinforced-soil wall and cutting method showed the highest preference rate. Also, in practical field conditions, the cutting method out of four methods was chosen to be the most effective method. This reflected that the methods that are equally superior in all aspects of evaluation factors are more important than the methods with superiority in highly prioritized evaluation factors.
