Electroless Plating of Co-Alloy Thin Films using Alkali-Free Chemicals (Alkali 물질이 포함되지 않은 화학물질을 이용한 Co 합금박막의 무전해도금)

  • Electroless plating of Co-alloy thin films as capping layers for Cu interconnection has been investigated using alkali-free precursors such as $(NH_4)_2Co(SO_4)_2{\cdot}6H_2O$, $(NH_4)_2WO_4$, $(NH_4)H_2PO_4$, etc. The characteristics of the Co-alloy thin films were discussed by analyses of the effects of pH, Co-precursor concentration, and deposition temperature on the thickness and surface morphology of the films. The thickness of the Co-alloy thin films increased with increasing pH, Co-precursor concentration, and deposition temperature, similarly to the results of electroless plating of Co-alloy thin films using alkali-containing chemicals. The SEM images of the surface of the Co-alloy thin films showed that the proper ranges of pH and deposition temperature were 8.5~9.5 and $75{\sim}85^{\circ}C$, respectively. This work found a feasibility that Co-alloy thin films as capping layers for Cu interconnection could be electroless plated using alkali-free chemicals.

Bending behavior of shape memory alloy bar and its application of seismic restrainers for bridges (형상기억합금의 휨거동 및 교량변위제어장치적용 연구)

  • The goal of this study is to perform several bending tests on a shape memory alloy bar and to analyze the characteristics of the bending behavior. The other goal is to verify the seismic performance of an SMA bar bending application. Single and double bending tests were conducted with varying loading speeds and maximum displacement. The loading and the unloading stiffness were estimated from the force-displacement curves and the equivalent damping ratio of each test was also assessed. In single bending, the SMA bar showed the stiffness hardening after the displacement of 32 mm. It is assumed that this phenomenon is due to the stress-induced-martensite hardening. The increasing loading speed did not influence on the stiffness of the single bending SMA bar. The stiffness of the double bending bar is about 5 times of that of the single bending. This study introduced a seismic application of SMA bending bars as seismic restrainers for bridges and showed its practicality. SMA bars in bending are used for seismic restrainers in a three-span-simply-supported bridge. They showed the effectiveness to reduce the responses of the bridge and the applicability for a seismic restrainer. The significance of this study is to provide basic knowledge of SMA bending and its seismic applications.

Microstructure and Magneto-Optical Properties of MnSbX(X=PT,Ag) Alloy Films (MnSbX(X=Pt, Ag) 합금막의 미세구조 및 자기광학적 특성)

  • Crystal structures and magneto-optical properties of $(Mn_{0.5-Z}Sb_{0.5+Z})_{100-y}Pt_y$ (0$(Mn_{0.5-Z}Sb_{0.5+Z})_{100-y}Ag_y$ (0$^{\circ}C$ are C1b-type with fcc and NiAs-type with hcp, respectively. The MnSbAg films have a texture which the c-axis orientation is perpendicular to the film plane by annealing at 300 $^{\circ}C$ for less than 3 hours. The perpendicular anisotropy constants of the $Mn_{47.4}Sb_{47.5}Ag_{5.1}$ film annealed at 300 $^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours are $K_1=6.6{\times}10^5 \; erg/cm^3\;and\;K_2=1.9{\times}10^5\; erg/cm^3$. The Kerr rotation angle of MnSbPt films increases but that of MnSbAg film decreases by decreasing incident wavelength within the range of 700$\leq$ λ$\leq$1000 nm. High polar Kerr angles of 1.7$^{\circ}$ (λ =700 nm) and 0.6$^{\circ}$ (λ =1000 nm), 0.2$^{\circ}$ (λ =700 nm) and 0.97$^{\circ}$ (λ =1000 nm) have been obtained from $Mn_{41.1}Sb_{44,9}Pt_{14.0}$ and $Mn_{47.4}Sb_{47.5}Ag_{5.1}$ alloy films, respectively.

Change of shear bond strength of orthodontic brackets according to surface treatment on dental gold alloy (치과용 금합금의 표면처리에 따른 교정용 브라켓의 전단결합강도 변화)

  • The dental gold alloy shows a lower bond strength than the natural teeth in bracket bonding, and this can be a possible source of subsequent bond failure. This study aims to evaluate the effect of various gold alloy surface treatment techniques on shear bond strength between the orthodontic adhesives and the gold alloy and to find ways of increasing the bond strength. Two hundred and forty specimens made of the dental fold alloy were divided into twelve groups based on the combination of surface treatment methods(non-surface treatment, sandblasted, sandblasted plus tin-plated, and sandblasted plus intermediate adhesive) and adhesive systems (Ortho-one, Panavia 21, Superbond C&B). The specimens with bonded brackets were placed in distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours and shear bond strength was measured by a universal testing machine. The results were as follows: 1. All surface-treated groups showed a significantly higher shear bond strength than non-surface-treated groups. 2. The sandblasted plus tin-plated group showed a significantly higher shear bond strength than the sandblasted group only when Panavia 21 was involved. 3. The sandblasted plus intermediate adhesive group showed a significantly higher shear bond strength than sandblasted group regardless of the type of adhesive used. 4. Of the three resin adhesive types, the Superbond C&B showed the highest bond strength, followed by Panavia 21 and Ortho-one. These findings suggest that a combination of sandblasting and intermediate resin treatment is desirable in order to enhance bracket bond strength regardless of adhesive types.

Discrete Dipole Approximation Calculation of the Extinction Spectra of Gold-Silver Alloy Nanoparticles (이산 쌍극자 근사를 이용한 금-은 합금 나노입자의 소광 스펙트럼 계산)

  • By using the discrete-dipole approximation, we computed the extinction spectrum of a gold-silver alloy nanoparticle. We have examined how the surface plasmon resonance changes with respect to the variation in the composition of the alloy particle. As the fraction of silver increases for a 10nm particle, the peak position of the extinction spectrum blue-shifts linearly. The intensity of the peak however increases exponentially with increasing the silver fraction. These results are in accord with the previous experimental results.

  • The purpose of this study was to give a quantitative analysis for assessing the tarnish resistance of alloys at the artificial saliva, 0.9% NaCI solution and Ringer's solution. In light of development in low-nobility alloys, it is important that tarnish test is standardized to analyse the tarnish properties of the compositions. There are concerns with the long term chemical stability of these alloys and the resistance to tarnish. Chemical stability is a complex problem involving alloy composition, nobility, microstructure and environment.

  • 박막형 태양전지 분야는 저가이고 가볍다는 특징을 가지고 있으며, 휘어지는 기판재를 적용하여 플렉서블 태양전지를 제조할 수도 있다는 장점을 가지고 있다. 본 연구에서 플렉서블 태양전지에 적합한 금속기판재를 제조하는 연구를 수행하였다. 일반적으로 기판재와 cell을 구성하는 반도체 층의 열팽창 거동 차이에 의한 열변형이 태양전지의 공정안정성에 영향을 주는 것으로 알려져 있었으며, cell을 구성하는 반도체 층과 열팽창 거동이 유사한 금속기판재의 적용이 필요하다. 이러한 특성을 쉽게 제어할 수 있는 금속기판재를 얇게 제조하기에 적절한 방법은 전주법이다. 전주법을 적용하여 조성 및 두께가 다른Ni 계 합금의 열팽창 거동을 TMA 장비를 사용하여 측정하였으며, 태양전지 제조에 사용되는 고온공정시 안정성 확보를 위하여 열처리후에 금속기판재의 열팽창 거동을 측정하였다. 그리고 전산해석tool 을 활용하여 가상의 CIS 플렉서블 태양전지 제조공정을 설정하고 고온공정온도에서 상온으로 냉각시 발생되는 층간 열변형 연구를 수행하였다. 그리고 플렉서블 태양전지용 기판재로 Ni 계 합금표면에 절연체인 $SiO_2$ 증착 연구를 수행하여 Fe-52Ni 합금에서 안정적인 절연층을 얻을 수 있었다.

Stucture and Intergranular Segregation of WC/WC Grain Boundaries in WC-Based Cemented Carbides (WC기 초경합금중 WC/WC界面의 구조와 입계편석)

  • The WC/WC grain boundary structure and intergranular segregation in WC-Co and WC-VC-Co cemented carbides were investigated by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy in order to elucidate whether contiguous boundaries were present or not at the atomic level. Some grain boundaries were separated by liquid phase, while others were contiguous at the atomic level. Cobalt was found to be segregated to WC/WC grain boundaries in WC-Co. Cobalt and vanadium were co-segregated to grain boundaries in WC-VC-Co. The segregation width in both materials was about 6 nm. These results suggest that the vanadium present in contiguous boundaries acts as an effective barrier to the migration of boundaries during sintering and annealing. This could explain the grain growth inhibiting mechanism of VC added to WC-Co.

Analysis of Microstructures of Ni-based Amorphous Powders Prepared by Gas Atomization Process (가스분무법으로 제조한 Ni-계 비정질 분말의 미세구조 분석)

  • 비정질 합금은 기존 결정질 합금에서는 얻을 수 없는 독특한 물리적, 화학적, 기계적, 전자기적 특성을 나타내는 것으로 알려져 있다. 비정질을 형성하기 위해서는 매우 큰 냉각속도가 필요하므로 제조 가능한 비정질 합금은 분말, ribbon, 박판 형태로 제한되어 있다. 최근 비정질 분말 제조 및 벌크 비정 질에 관한 연구는 많은 발전을 보아 왔지만, 아직도 고청정 비정질 합금 분말의 제조와 대량 생산화 관해서는 많은 연구가 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 고청정 Ni-Zr-Ti-Si-(Sn)계 벌크 비정질 분말을 가스분무법으로 제조하였다. 제조된 합금 분말은 각 입도 별로 구분하여, XRD 분석을 통하여 비정질 형성 가능 입도을 분석하였다. 분말의 외형은 SEM으로 분석하였으며, 미세구조는 TEM을 사용하였다. 열적특성은 DSC 분석으로 조사하였다. 또한 제조한 비정질 분말의 미세구조와 비교하기 위하여 Tg와 Tx 온도범위에서 열처리 한 분말의 미세구조를 분석하였다. XRD 분석 결과, 가스분무법으로 제조된 Ni-Zr-Ti-Si-(Sn) 분말 중에서 75$\mu\textrm{m}$ 이하의 분말은 비정질상을 가졌으며, 75$\mu\textrm{m}$ 이상의 분말은 결정질 또는 비정질의 혼합 상으로 구성되었다. 비정질 분말 회수율은 약 60% 이상이었다. 미세 TEM 분석에서 75$\mu\textrm{m}$ 이하 분말은 전형적인 비정질 Halo 형상을 보였으며, 결정질이 혼합된 분말은 비정질 기지상에 결정질 응고 수지상 조직이 혼합되어 있음을 확인하였다.

Seismic base isolation for highway steel bridges using shape memory alloys (형상기억합금을 이용한 고속도로 강교량의 면진)

  • Conventional lead-rubber bearings may be unstable in case of strong ground motions. To address this problem, this paper proposed a new concept of isolation device wherein shape memory alloy wires were incorporated in an elastomeric bearing. A three-span continuous steel bridge was used for seismic analyses to compare the performance of lead-rubber and proposed bearings. The proposed bearings showed almost the same performance as the lead-rubber bearings. In particular, the proposed bearings limited relative displacement effectively with strong ground motions and recovered its original undeformed shape.
