재미한인과학기술자협회가 창립되고 30여 년이 지난 지금, 1만여 명의 석 · 박사급 고급인력이 전 미주에 회원으로 가입되어 있다. 최근 이 협회는 한국 과학의 새로운 장을 열 재미한인 2세의 영입을 위하여 많은 노력을 기울이고 있다. 이러한 노력이 결실을 맺기 위해서는, 한국정부의 의지와 함께 적극적인 투자가 바탕이 되어야 할 것이다.

최근 한인사회 내에는 이민역사상 최초로 두 개의 지역사회복지센터 건립이 추진되고 있다. 또한 미주 아름다운재단과 2세들이 중심이 되어 창립한 한미지역사회재단(Korean American Community Foundation)등을 중심으로 건전한 기부문화를 형성을 위한 노력이 활발히 진행되고 있으며, 조기교육센터와 청년학교, 지역사회클리닉 등 전문사회복지 및 권익옹호단체들이 속속 생겨나고 있다.

Purpose: Recommendation for regular Pap test in the past 3 years as a cue to action affects on an increased likelihood of receiving a cervical cancer screening in that period. This study performed to estimate the association with healthcare access, healthcare provider status, and physician recommendation for Pap test in the past 3 years among Korean American women. Method: Korean Health survey was carried out in 2002. These population-based telephone surveys were conducted with Korean American women who resided in Alameda and Santa Clara Counties, California (n=865). We preformed multiple logistic regression analyses to estimate predictors of physician recommendation for Pap test by SAS 8.2. Results: Korean women in two California Counties were 37.9% who received physician recommendation for Pap test in the past 3 years. The predictors on physician recommendation for Pap test in the past 3 years were health insurance coverage, visiting number to doctor in the past year, and healthcare provider status. For healthcare access, no matter who had enrolled in public or private health insurances, the women were more likely to get the recommendation for Pap test from their regular healthcare provider. Particularly, for ethnicity of healthcare provider, the women were more likely to get the recommendation for Pap test from non-Korean female doctors (OR=6.21, 95% CI=2.63, 14.66), Korean male doctors (OR=2.19, 95% CI=1.30, 3.68), and non-Korean male doctors (OR=2.07, 95% CI=1.15, 3.71). Conclusion: (삭제) Effect of healthcare access and healthcare provider status on recommendation for Pap test among Korean American women in two California Counties would contribute to our understanding of developing strategies to promote adherence of Pap test and reduce morbidity and mortality far cervical cancer among Korean American women in the U.S.

This The main objective of the study is to examine success clues of the firm influenced by top manager(Masayoshi Sohn) who belongs to Korean-Japanese third generation diaspora. A company's management style depends greatly on the value of its top manager, who also affects success and failure of the firm. SOFTBANK's management style could be influenced by the identity and values of Masayoshi Sohn. The results of the study are as follows ; firstly, his firm remains born-global firm owing to his global value rooted from his de-ethnification and studying in America. Secondly, the firm has challenge spirit owing to his experience of overcoming discrimination and repression during childhood time. and his role model 'Ryoma". Thirdly, there is a roly poly spirit in his firm because he has overcome complex coming from Korean-Japanese third generation diaspora. Finally, his company has human-oriented management philosophy because he has influenced a lot form his grand mother, Won-Cho Lee who emphasized much on human-beings. His identity and values have infiltrated Softbank's management style, which has led to the success of the company. This study will provide you with different viewpoints on the study for Korean-Japanese third generation diaspora. Especially, this study can be meaningful in which it is a study on the third generation of Korean-Japanese diaspora and the global corporations he is running since there are few such studies up to now.

This study examined how socio-demographic and background characteristics, acculturation, and gender role attitudes influence Korean American male adults' beliefs about wife beating. Using a structured self-administered questionnaire, data was collected from 201 Korean American men between the ages of 20 and 64, married for at least two years, currently living with a wife, and residing in Los Angeles County. Of the 201, 196 completed questionnaires were used to analyze the data. The respondents' beliefs about wife beating were measured by the Inventory of Beliefs About Wife Beating(IBWB) Short Form, consisting of 11 items. The multiple regression analyses revealed that age and traditional gender role attitudes were significantly associated with the respondents' beliefs about wife beating, but no significant associations between witnessed parental abuse and acculturation and beliefs about wife beating were found. Implications of the findings for mental health programs and future research are discussed.

This paper aims at elucidating the characteristics of immigration path and residential location, and analyzing the factors influencing housing ownership structure and preference of residential location factors of Korean immigrants in Los Angeles. The main results of this study are as follows. Firstly, immigration paths of Korean Immigrants are divided by spatial assimilation type and network of mainstream society oriented type. Secondly, according to the results of binomial logistic regression analysis, Korean town as a current residential location is selected by low-income class, aged migrants group, housing non-owner group and longer migration period group. Thirdly, migrants tend to retain detached housings in residential area of mainstream society while migration period go beyond 10 years and incomes exceed $60,000. Finally, according to ANOVA tests on the preferences of residential location factors. high-income and home owers groups more prefer location factors such as economics, natural environment, housing interior facilities, network of mainstream society.
