Criticism on Cho Ji-hoon's Recognition of Han Yong-un (조지훈의 한용운 인식방법 비판)

  • Cho Ji-hoon was a leading figure on the discussion of recognition on Han Yong-un, particularly the post-liberation period. During the Japanese colonial era, he addressed Han Yong-un as the representative of national poet, and evaluated Han's poems as the models of rebellious nationalistic poetry. Such evaluation by Cho set the precedent of basic perspectives and methodologies on how to recognize Han Yong-un in the present day. This paper analyzes three studies on Han Yong-un, conducted by Cho ji-hoon. We also examine how Cho created his logic of recognizing Han as a national poet, and his poems as nationalistic poetry. Accordingly, this paper has separated recognitions on poet studies and work studies, and further explored how each recognition has consistency with Cho ji-hoon's historical and literary perception. As a result, the following has been concluded: the basis of Cho ji-hoon's recognition on the life and works of Han Yong-un was premised on Cho's understanding of the world from a standpoint of history of ideas, the concept of nation was regarded as an absolute value that binds disparate ideas together, and the combination of nationalism and poetry has been expressed through the logic of nationalistic poetry and the notion which equalizes the poet to a classical scholar. It was further concluded that such equalizing logic contains some logical contradictions derived from integration between universal rights and national sovereignty, and nation and Buddhism. Therefore, it can be said that other possible interpretations on the role of a poet were not fully discussed, but remain bounded. Last but not the least, this paper critically tries to perceive Cho's recognition on Han Yong-un, and accentuates the necessity of new interpretations of Han's poems, apart from those based on nationalism.

Han Yong-un's View Point of Buddhism from the Perspective of Zen Buddhism (선불교전통(禪佛敎傳統)에서 본 한용운(韓龍雲)의 불교관(佛敎觀))

  • In this paper, Han Yong-un's view point of Buddhism was examined in the traditional Zen Buddhism. He emphasized the essence of calm and awakened Zen in Wonhyo's theory of Jigwanssangun and Jinul's theory of Jeonghyessangsu. He criticized the behaviors of Zen priests at that time who turned their back on common people, secluded themselves in mountains and tried to stay calm in their places, and ideologically stressed that calm and awakened Zen should be realized in disciplinants' daily lives while enlightening the public. On the other hand, he had consistently stuck to Imjeseonpung(臨濟禪風) based on the spirit of saving the world, rather than depending on Jodongowi(曹洞 五位), when glossing "Sip-hyun-dam" with the traditional $S{\bar{o}}t{\bar{o}}$ Zen(曹洞宗) after Kim Si-seup Compared with Jodongowi, Siphyeondamjuhae(十玄談註解) emphasized Pyeonjungjeong (偏中正) where the right position(正位) of a true man(眞人) is founded in the middle of common people's partiality(偏位). In Siphyeondamjuhae, he intended to rebuke Japanese $S{\bar{o}}t{\bar{o}}$ Zen priests' brutality of trying to annihilate even the spirit of Zen Buddhism through Treaty of Alliance of Korea-Japan Buddhism(朝日佛敎同盟條約). Considering Han Yong-un's view point of Buddhism, it has the characteristic of patriotism and love of the people in the traditional Zen Buddhism.

A study on Significance of Literary History in Kwon Goohyeon's and Han Yongwoon's Sijo (권구현과 한용운 시조의 문학사적 의의 - 1920-1930년대 시조부흥운동의 재인식 -)

  • Si is a genre which has been steadily loved by Korean, Particularly, 1920's through 1930's, the Revival Movement of Sijo is made by the school of Literary for People, including Choi Namseon, Lee Byeonggi and Lee Eunsang. And Kwon Goohyeon, a member of KAPF, and Han Yongwoon, not belonging to any literary group were interested in Sijo. Kwon Goohyeon, both a member of KAPF and an anarchist has published A Present of Black Room(1927), which is one of the two published in 1920's-1920's saw only two volumes of Sijo works be published: Choi Namseon's 108 Agony(1926) and Kwon's. However, Kwon Goohyeon's work has not been illuminated. compared with Choi Namseon's and the Revival Movement Sijo by the school of Literary for People. It is because Korean literary world has been under the anti-communism ideology since the Liberation of Korea. However, it caused to explore proletarianism Sijo (Joh woon) and proletarianism poetry (Park Yeonghee) that Kwon is a memeber of KAPF and an anarchist. Han Yongwoon, not belonging to any literary group, was very famous as the poet of My Belolved One's Silence(1926), not as a Sijo poet. It means that he s not been illuminated as a Sijo poet. However, his Sijo is enough to contain his various features such as a man of Independence Movement, a Buddhist monk, a lyrical poet and so on. His first Sijo is For Planting Mookoonghwa-Poetry Written in Prison(1922), which has been published four years prior to My Beloved One's. And his affection on Sijo is inferred from the fact that he has constantly published Sijo more than free verse. The aim this thesis is to find out a position of Sijo 1920's through 1930's from a study on Kwon Goohyeon's and Han Yongwoon's Sijo. Sijo, Korean traditional literary genre, was written by most of the poets including not only the school of Literary for People but Kwon Goohyeon and Han Yongwoon 1920's through 1930's. As a result, the writing of Sijo was not a partial movement by the anti-KAPF group, but by a paradigm in 1920's through 1930's.

  • 지금 우리가 절망의 시대, 혼돈의 시대를 살고 있다는 것은 분명한 사실이다. 시는 이러한 조건을 무시할 수 없고 무시해서는 안된다. 그러나 일상에 발이 묶여 인식의 해방을 꾀하지 못한다면, 시는 어설픈 잠언에 빠지고 우리사회의 흐름처럼 퇴행하고 말 것이다. 한용운, 이육사 등의 시적 성취가 주는 교훈을 되새겨 볼 일이다.

A Study on HanYongUn's Sijo (한용운 시조의 내면 세계와 표현 미학)

  • This paper is written in order to research for the contents and expression of HanYongUn's Sijo. HanYongUn is very famous as monk and independent campaigner, modern poet in Korea. He wrote many kinds of literary works, for example, many modern poetry, modern novels, Sijo, Chino-Korean Poetry etc. It's very exceptional that he wrote a lot of Korean traditional Sijo and Chino-Korean Poetry. Because he was a many modern poet as same as modern novelist. So studying on his Sijo can help someone to understand the essence of HanYongUn's all literature. That's why I'm studying on HanYongUn's Sijo. The firstly, in aspect of the the contents of HanYongUn's Sijo, HanYongUn was expressing three kinds of themes, that is ideology, reality, daily life in his Sijo. The ideology consists of Buddhism and Confucianism and the reality is related with social conditions, the daily life is deeply connected with Nim. These features of his Sijo are different from his modern poetry and Chino-Korean Poetry which had a simple theme, for example, love with Nim, daily life. The secondly, in aspect of the expression of HanYongUn's Sijo, I studied the expression of HanYongUn's Sijo in three angles, that is, vocabulary and the developing of poet thinking, rhetorics. HanYongUn used essential words for expressing three kinds of themes effectively in his Sijo. And he was developing of his poet thinking by three steps in his Sijo. He applied several representative rhetorics to his Sijo, those are question and answer, exclamation, irony, distich etc. Even though I studied the characteristics of HanYongUn's Sijo in two aspects But there could be the other things to study about these kinds of theme. I might continue researching the other kinds of theme next time in the near future.

Turbulence Kinetic Energy Budgets of Tip Vortex Generated by a Fixed Wing (고정익 끝완류의 난류 운동에너지 분배 특성)

  • The turbulence structure of e. tip vortex generated by e. fixed wing was investigated with the use of two-dimensional laser Doppler velocimetry. The velocity field, composed of circumferential end axial components, was measured on the vertical section to the vortex trail, located at 2C downstream from the wing tip in the incoming flow condition of $Re=2.24{\times}10^5$. A quasi 3-dimensional measurement technique by use of 2-dimensional LDV system was suggested for Reynolds stresses and the higher moments. The validity of this technique was confirmed with the uncertainty analysis. The budget of the turbulence kinetic energy was analyzed by those results in the radial direction of the vortex core. It is resulted that the production is to be very likely balanced with the dissipation in most range of the vortex core.

Centerline Turbulent Characteristics of an Axisymmetric Flow with the Swirl (소용돌이 성분이 있는 축대칭유동의 중심난류 특성)

  • The swirl effect on an axisymmetric turbulence has been investigated along its centerline by the hot wire anemometry. Flow facility to generate and conrol the swirl has been built by using the rotating honeycomb and grid. For the case of internal flows, as the strength of the swirl increases the flow tends to be locally isotropic by modifying the radial and the rotational components mainly. In comparison with those of the plain free jet, the decay of the centerline turbulences seems to be delayed substantially even with a slight swirl component.
