  • This study analyzed and modeled the relationships between the species richness of fish, plant, and bird and environmental factors such as climatic and geographical variables based on data collected from 109 major drainage systems in Japan from 1990 until 2005. As a result, the most parts of the distributions of the fish, plant, and bird species richness were clarified by the average annual atmospheric temperature, dimension of drainage areas, and annual rainfall, respectively. In addition, this study predicted the value of each organism species distributed in national drainage areas in Japan using GAMs(Generalized Additive Models) for each organism model created by environmental factors on a wide-ranging scale, and also mapped out the value. Mapping out the predicted value could make it easier for its managers to newly set up the areas needing to be protected to obtain diversity of the organism species and to assess their availability of conservation for bio-diversity.

  • Eight fungicides including prochloraz, tebuconazole, benomyl, mancozeb, thiophanate-methyl, azoxystrobin, and fluazinam were examined for their control effects on Fusarium bulb and root rot of oriental orchid, Cymbidium goeringii. Among the chemicals, prochloraz and tebuconazole were the most effective on suppression of the causal pathogen, F. oxysporum in vitro and on control of the disease in vivo. Prochloraz and tebuconazole inhibited mycelial growth of the fungi 95~100% at 10ppm a.i. and microconidial germination 75~100% at 100ppm a.i. Prochloraz and tebuconazole showed 80~92% and 84~88% protective control value on the disease, respectively. However, curative effects on infected orchid were relatively low. Other chemicals showed no or lower than 20% curative and 50% protective control value. Results indicated that prochloraz and tebuconazole can be used for the control of the Fusarium bulb and root rot of oriental orchids. However, the chemicals need to be applied prior to the disease development to achieve successful control efficacy.

  • A destructive collar rot of apple caused by a species of Phytophthora has widely occurred in Kyungbuk and less extended in Chungbuk, Chungnam and Chunbuk provinces of Korea. Significantly higher incidence of the disease was observed on cv. Fuji when M26 or M9 was used as dwarfing stocks. Incidence of the disease at several orchards in Uisung, Kunwi, Yesan and Muju ranged from 45 to 80%. Twenty-five isolates of the causal fungus were collected and all isolates were identified as P. cactorum on the basis of their cultural and morphological characters. The fungus produced markedly papillate and broadly ovoid deciduous sporangia both on agar and in water, and a short pedicel was attached to each sporangium. Oospores were readily formed on clarified V8 agar by single isolates and all the antheridia were paragynous. The fungus neither grew nor produced oospores under 5 and over 33$^{\circ}C$. The destructive collar rot of apple caused by P. cactorum has not been reported in Korea previously.

  • The study was conducted to determine the effects of an optimum irrigation time as affected by the different soil textures in Dioscorea batatas DECNE. Water content change was decreased following orders, non - irrigation > July 15 > Aug. 15 > irrigation of two times (July 15 following Aug. 15). It was appeared that sandy loam texture was sharply decreased compared with the loam texture in water loss. Dan-Ma was preemergenced about 6 to 8 days without soil texture. Epiphytic amounts in both Dan-Ma and Jang-Ma were about two times increased at tubberous fomation and enlargement stages comparing non - irrigation. In tuber yield without soil texture, Jang-Ma was increased compared with Dan-Ma and tuber yield in loam soil texture was promoted. As a result, it was concluded that sandy loam texture has more compatible than loam soil texture.

  • In this study, the points of LiDAR were modified in order to generate various DEM resolutions by applying LiDAR data in Ulsan. Since the LiDAR data have points with 1m intervals, the number of points for each resolution was modified to the size of 1, 5, 10, 30, 50, 100m by uniformly eliminating the points. A runoff analysis was performed on Taehwa river and its tributary, Dongcheon, with 200 year rainfall exceedance probability. 2-dimensional inundation analysis was performed based on the density of LiDAR data using FLUMEN, which was used to establish domestic flood risk map. Once DEM data obtained from LiDAR survey are used, it is expected that the study results can be used as data in determining optimal grid spacing, which is economical, effective and accurate in establishing flood defence plans including the creation of flood risk map.

  • Slope stability is affected by duration of precipitation, probable rainfall intensity, unsaturated soil property, and soil strength. The recent analyses of slope stability tend to include unsaturated analysis based on infiltration properties of soil, while researches of unsaturated soil slope tend to include the analysis of deformation and stress distribution of soil over time. However, infiltration property of unsaturated soil slope depends not only on intensity or duration of precipitation, but also on relief and surface condition, which is not considered in status quo. This research uses hydrologic model parameters of soil in order to consider effects of inclination on filtration, and carries out analysis of unsaturated soil slope to confirm the effects according to slope inclination and surface condition. In conclusion, using slope stability analysis, the need to consider infiltration rate according to inclination and surface condition was confirmed even under the same precipitation conditions.

  • The batch tests were performed to determine the ratio of Fenton reagent on diesel contaminated soil. The objective of a column test was to determine and optimize the hydrogen peroxide requirements for the remediation of a soil contaminated with diesel fuel. The batch test were done on 5 g diesel contaminated soil containing hydrogen peroxide (35%) and Iron (II) sulfate. The $H_2O_2(g):Fe^{2+}(g)$ ratio varied 1:0, 30:1, 15:1, 5:1, 1:1, with contact reaction time 120min. Initial diesel concentration were 2,000 mg/kg, 5,000 mg/kg, and 10,000 mg/kg. Average diesel removal from the contaminated soil is 97% after 2hrs. Results of this study showed possible application of without addition of iron source. In column test, treatment of a diesel-contaminated soil (initial diesel concentration: 2,000 mg/kg, 5,000 mg/kg, and 10,000 mg/kg) with hydrogen peroxide (35%) only was containing natural-occurring minerals. The time required for the column test was approximately 90min, 180min, 270min; column length was 5 em, 10 em, and 15 em. The most effective stoichiometry (final diesel cone.: $200{\sim}300mg/kg$) of 0.2 g peroxide consumed/mg diesel degraded. Further investigation is required to identify the effect of soil organic matter and soil mineral.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the working time and the efficiency according to plot shape and plot size under the same conditions. We chose two stands which were relatively gently sloped end evenly distributed in number of trees and surveyed 198 plots, and 306 plots in each stand. 1. As to the time advantage of plot establishment method, the direct-four line establishment method was more favorable than the diagonal-line establishment method in a rectangular plot. 2. The method by Blumeleiss-$Me{\beta}$ trommel was more favorable than the method using a tape in a circular plot. 3. As to the time advantage, the circular plot was more favorable than the rectangular plot. Especially, the circular plot was twice more available than rectangular plot in small plot size, but enlargement of plot size gradually decreased time advantage of circular plot.
