  • Some climatological features of summer precipitation in Korea were studyed using the precipitation data of 15 stations of Korea Meteorological Administration where more than 30 years data since 1961 are available. The study included statistical analysis of precipitation by climatological normal values, and comparison of inter-annual variation of annual precipitation, summer precipitation and precipitation during the Changma. The relationships between them were also analyzed. It was revealed that, in Korea, more than half of annual precipitation was concentrated in summer season (June to August), and it was usually influenced by the Changma. The ratio of summer and Changma precipitation to the annual precipitation showed that effect of Changma was bigger in the central inland area, while comparatively smaller in the east coastal area and Cheju Island due to topographical effects. It was also shown that the fluctuation of the annual precipitation was less variable than those of summer and Changma precipitations. Thus, it was suggested that understanding the variation features of summer precipitation associated with monsoon activities was very important to figure out the change of annual precipitation for the national water resources planning.

  • The relative contribution of between hillslope-flow and stream-flow by heterogeneity of drainage path are quantitatively assessed in the present study with GIUH model based on grid of GIS. Application watersheds are selected Pyeongchang, Bocheong and Wi river basin of IHP in Korea. The mean and variance of hillslope and stream length are estimated and analyzed in each watershed. And coupling with observation storm events, estimate hillslope and stream characteristic velocity which dynamic parameters of GIUH model. The mean and variance of distribution of travel time (i.e. IUH) calculate using estimated pass lengths and characteristic velocities. And the relative contributions are assessed by heterogeneity of drainage path. As a result, the effect of the variance that determine shape of IUH dominate with hillslope's effect in the small watershed area (within 500 $km^2$). Thus, GIUH in the small watershed area must consider hillslope-flow.

  • For analyzing shallow-water flows over the uneven bottom, the HLLL scheme and the divergence form for bed slope source term (DFB) technique, respectively were applied to the flux gradient and the bottom gradient source terms in a finite-volume model for the shallow water equations. And also the model incorporated the volume/free-surface relationship (VFR) to consider the partially submerged cells (PSC). It was identified that a simpler version of the weighted surface-depth gradient method in the MUSCL was equivalent to the original one in the accuracy for 1D steady flows. It was verified that the flux gradient term and the bottom gradient source term were well-balanced exactly by the VFR for the 1D PSC. The VFR for the triangular PSC settled the problem which the governing equations were not well-balanced by the DFB technique for the 2D PSC. There were good agreements in simulations and experiments for 2D dam-break flows over a triangular sill and a round bump. In addition, the partial dam-break flow was successfully simulated for flooding of roughnesses in an irregular bottom as well as a sloping one. Therefore, this model is expected to be applied to the real river with uneven topography.

  • This study was performed based on "Basic plan of landscape forming project in Jujeon village" which was performed during January ~ August 2011 as a target of "Pilot project of landscape forming in coast village" held by the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs. The project target, Jujeon village, Dong-gu, Ulsan metropolitan city has unique scenery and cultural and historic features. However, its distinct landscape is getting fallen due to insufficient management and development done without considering local feature. Therefore, we need to plan to increase the distinctive place value of coast village, and the landscape color plan is an essential element upon ma king entire harmony of village unit. This study, therefore, aims to suggest authentic landscape color plan and improvement plan of Jujeon village through local color research, local history, geographical feature, and resident sense research of Jujeon village. Especially, for independent landscape color plan for a small village, this study is significant to develop authentic color plan of Jujeon village based on storytelling and to provide possibility in landscape color plan through storytelling in the future.

  • Korea High-Speed Railway has various safety systems to secure safe and stable transportation and makes assurance doubly sure to minimize casualty and property damage caused by natural disasters. But, there is no regulation that reflects domestic railway line, climate, topographical and geological characteristic in introducing the foreign regulations yet. Therefore, it is necessary for us to modify a regulation which is suitable to domestic high-speed railway. In this study, it is possible to establish more reasonable boundary rainfall by grasping and improving the troubles with existing boundary rainfall that is scheduled to be utilized for high-speed rail-transport operation control under rainfall. Also, it is possible to insure the safety of train by four steps such as 'normal operation', 'warning issue', 'train speed control' and 'train stop' using the established boundary rainfall. It will go far toward minimizing the occurrence of natural disasters.

  • Microblogs became popular information delivery ways due to the spread of smart phones. They have the characteristic of reflecting the interests of users more quickly than other medium. Particularly, in case of the subject which attracts many users, microblogs can supply rich information originated from various information sources. Nevertheless, it has been considered as a hard problem to obtain useful information from microblogs because too much noises are in them. So far, various methods are proposed to extract and track some subjects from particular documents, yet these methods do not work effectively in case of microblogs which consist of short phrases. In this paper, we propose a graph-based topic extraction and partitioning method to understand interests of users about a certain keyword. The proposed method contains the process of generating a keyword graph using the co-occurrences of terms in the microblogs, and the process of splitting the graph by using a network partitioning method. When we applied the proposed method on some keywords. our method shows good performance for finding a topic about the keyword and partitioning the topic into sub-topics.

  • Captions which appear in images include information that relates to the images. In order to obtain the information carried by captions, the methods for text extraction from images have been developed. However, most existing methods can be applied to captions with fixed height of stroke's width. We propose a method which can be applied to various caption size. Our method is based on connected components. And then the edge pixels are detected and grouped into connected components. We analyze the properties of connected components and build a neural network which discriminates connected components which include captions from ones which do not. Experimental data is collected from broadcast programs such as news, documentaries, and show programs which include various height caption. Experimental result is evaluated by two criteria : recall and precision. Recall is the ratio of the identified captions in all the captions in images and the precision is the ratio of the captions in the objects identified as captions. The experiment shows that the proposed method can efficiently extract captions various in size.

  • As a number of TV programs broadcast today, researches about TV program recommender system have been studied and many researchers have been studying recommender system to produce recommendation with high accuracy. Recommender system recommends TV program to user by using metadata like genre, plot or calculating users' preferences about TV programs. In this paper, we propose a new TV program Collaborative Filtering Recommender System that exploits viewing time pattern like viewing ratio, relation with finish time and recently viewing history to calculate preference for high-quality of recommendation. To verify usefulness of our research, we also compare our method which utilizes viewing time patterns and baseline which simply recommends TV program of user's most frequently watched channel. Through this experiments, we show that our method very effectively works and recommendation performance increases.

  • Context-aware service environment should provide many kinds of services according to users' requests. Users want a great variety of services. In response to their demands the service provider should make a new service every time. But making a new service every time may be inefficient even for a small number of users' requests. So, there are studies on how to efficiently support various and complex requests fFom users. In many researches, service compositions have lately attracted considerable attention. However, existing researches have mainly focused on Web services. So they are not proper to rapidly providing services in response to users' requests, especially In context-aware service environment. This paper proposes a rapid service composition using case-based reasoning. For evaluating the proposed algorithm we implement 'purchasing seTvice agent'. With this system, we compare our algorithm and the existing service composition algorithms.
