  • Recently, the globalization of culture and the global trend of K-culture have become a good background for further developing and promoting Korean traditional culture. However, although Korean traditional music has an excellent notation method called Jeongganbo developed by King Sejong, it is gradually not being used as the universality of Western notation. However, since the 7th curriculum, the proportion of introduction and utilization of Jeongganbo in elementary music education has been increasing. And this is a good opportunity to re-generalize our unique traditional notation. On the other hand, in addition to practicing the interpretation of the notation method, more diverse tools will be needed to activate the practice of Jeongganbo. Therefore, this study studied the design of a web program that can make Jeongganbo on the web without installation or download. In addition, in order to increase the user's convenience in the process of publishing Jeongganbo, it designs and proposes a method of inputting using a computer keyboard like a piano keyboard and method of listening to input music information through MIDI function and save it as a file. Through this study, it is possible to develop a web program that anyone can easily and simply approach, practice, and publish, and it is expected to be a useful tool for practicing Korean traditional music or publishing traditional music in the future.

  • The Korean $taeg{\breve{u}}m$, a horizontal bamboo flute, is considered a representative wind instrument of Korean traditional music. Symbolized by its unique timbre and diverse techniques, this instrument transmits the beauty of Korea, and has become acknowledged even in international music scenes. Being a $taeg{\breve{u}}m$ player, composer, and ethnomusicology researcher, I have developed creative collaborations with musicians from Asian, electro-acoustic, jazz, and Western art music traditions developed outside my country of origin and tried to overcome musical boundaries through the 'intercultural performances' (after Turner 1988). Zooming in one collaboration, I detail the process of music creation and performance, collaborating with prominent Korean composer Kim $Taes{\breve{o}}ng$ (b.1967), who was commissioned by myself to write two compositions for the $taeg{\breve{u}}m$ and Western art music. The purpose is twofold: firstly, the modernization and appropriation of the Korean flute is briefly tracked down within the context of Western Art music. Secondly, a performance project is illustrated with the support of technical apparatuses such as DVD and CD recordings and delves further into the question of the 'cultural relativism' (Michael Tenzer, 2006: 7) through the interactive process. The performance-as-research, as a tool 'actualizing' (Richard Schechner 2003: 32) the hybridity, touches on critical domains in Ethnomusicology. The corresponding two parts discover, as Alan Merriam's(1964) 'tripartite model' suggests, the 'context' of Korean and Western cultures, the 'behaviour' of collaborating and performing and the 'sound' of improvised and composed productions in the course of music making.

  • Ajaeng is the bowed string instrument among zither instruments in East Asia, which has a circular form to date, and it has established itself as an important instrument in today's creative Gugak along with traditional music. Looking at previous prior studies, musical instrument studies have not been actively conducted due to insufficient data from musical history studies, and this study looked at the origin, form of musical instrument, and performance methods of zither bowed string instrument through historical records of Chinese Yazheng and music drawings. The analysis of various documents showed that Ajaeng originated from an ancient Chinese traditional musical instrument called Chuk. In terms of the performance style, the Chinese Yazheng had different musical forms depending on the purpose and location of the performance, and there was a method of standing up and fixing the musical instrument horizontally to the ground. Ajaeng in Korea has been handed down without much change in the form of musical instruments introduced in China during the Goryeo Dynasty and the way they sit on the floor and play on a pedestal. Through this study, we hope that it will help to preserve and develop traditional music and Korean traditional musical instruments by enhancing understanding of musical.

  • Traditional music education for infants is the most important step of forming human knowledge. Since their rapid development of intelligence and emotion has an educational value not only it improves the human knowledge but also it makes infants understand the unique emotion of Korean people. Under the several circumstances, however, we have no enough contents for traditional music education. Thus, by researching and analyzing the existing educational contents and complementing them properly for multimedia environment as a form of animation, we perform a series of experiments to infants who are attending to the kindergarten with interactive animations which are familiar with infants. Infants become interested in the contents and after the lesson of the short bamboo flute content, they show the clear improvements for the playing on a musical instrument. This proves that the Korean music educational content realized with animation can be an alternative plan to improve the educational effect by causing enjoyment and interest of infants.

  • The context-awareness is one of the core technologies in ubiquitous computing environment. In this research, we incorporated the capability of context-awareness in a case-based music recommendation system. Our proposed system consists of Intention Module and Recommendation Module. The Intention Module infers whether a user wants to listen to the music or not from the environmental context information. Then, the Recommendation Module selects songs from the songs that are listened by similar users in similar context, and recommends them to the user. The results showed that our proposed system outperformed the traditional case-based music recommendation system in accuracy by about 9% point.
