  • A taxonomic study of the family Macrouridae was conducted using fish collections deposited in the Department of Biology, Chonbuk National University, Chonju, Korea and the East Sea Fisheries Research Institute, Korea. Among these collections were specimens of four species belonging to the genera Coryphaenoides and Coelorinchus: Coryphaenoides marginatus, C. microps, Coelorinchus (Abyssicola) macrochir, and C. formosanus. These specimens represent the first records of the species from Korean waters and from the East Sea (Japan Sea). Only four species (Coelorinchus longissimus, C. multispinulosus, C. japonicus, and C. parallelus) had previously been recorded from the East Sea. The Korean names "Keun-nun-gin-ga-si-min-te" (for Coryphaenoides marginatus), "Jak-eun-nun-gin-ga-si-min-te" (for C. microps), "Gin-pal-kko-ri-min-te" (for Coelorinchus macrochir), and "Ta-i-wan-kko-ri-min-te" (for Coelorinchus formosanus) are herein given to these species.

  • Based on six specimens collected from eastern coast of Jeju Island, Korea, Istiblennius dussumieri is described as a new Korean record representing the northernmost occurrence of the species in the Indo-Pacific Ocean. The species is characterized by having a dark spot between first and third dorsal spines, branched orbital cirrus, and lacking nape cirri. A new Korean name, "Geom-eun-jeom-be-do-ra-chi" is proposed for the species.

  • A newly naturalized plant, Carex scoparia Schkuhr ex Willd. var. scoparia, was found in Mt. Hanseok, Injegun, Gangwon-do, Korea. It belongs to sect. Ovales Kunth and had been known from North America, and was introduced into Europe and New Zealand. This species distinguished from related taxa in Asia, Carex maackii Maxim. and Carex leporina L., by pistillate scales lanceolate and having large perigynia. We propose the new Korean name, 'Han-seok-sa-cho', based on its first collecting place. We also provide descriptions for morphological characters, illustrations, photographs and keys to allied taxa.
