This study conducts empirical research on gender differentials of economic resources in old age. The economic resources are assessed by the presence of independent income source and the amount of total income. The study, based on nation-wide survey of the elderly, examines the effects of individual level variables and household level ones. Also, it compares such effects between male and female elderly. The analysis shows that several variables have gender specific effects. Among them, particularly interesting and important are marital status and coresidence with children. The positive effect of having spouse is greater among female elderly than among male elderly. Also, while coresidence with children among male elderly has insignificant or slightly positive relation to their own economic resources, it has a negative relation among female elderly. These results indicate that female elderly are dependent on their husbands and children. The study suggests that future research on the elderly incorporate gender differentials into models attempting to capture diversity within the elderly population.
This paper estimates the effect of household size and its changes on income inequality. Household formation is an important inequality-reducing mechanism through income pooling and collective consumption. The increase in small households, reflecting lower fertility rate and the increase in both nuclear and old families, has weakened the inequality-reducing effect of household formation. In contrast, additional workers in households and their income have strengthened the inequality-reducing effect of household formation. Given the increasing trend of old families, these results suggest for a balanced policy package that promotes employment and does not discourage co-habitation in order to maintain the inequality-reducing effect of household formation.

The main purpose of this paper is to explore the impacts of foreign wife status and social capital on fertility among a group of Chinese, Vietnamese and Japanese wives in Korea. Attention is focused on the argument that minority group status and immigrant social capital exerts an independent effect on fertility, apart from socioeconomic and demographic variables. It is hypothesized that the level and tempo of fertility of foreign wives reflect their social disadvantages and the adaptation process. Micro-data from two socio-demographic surveys were utilized to analyze the reproductive outcomes of foreign and native wives in Korea. Results of analyses reveal that foreign wives in Korea tend to have fewer children compared to native Korean women. It was found that a foreign wife's access to social capital significantly facilitates reproductive behavior. Those who engage themselves more in voluntary activities, have more friends in Korea, and possess better and higher-quality social networks tend to have more children. Foreign wives with a high degree of integration or assimilation to the new surroundings were also found to have more children than other foreign wives.
This study aimed to comprehensively assess the demographic characteristics, health behaviors, subjective health status, health-related restriction of life, and quality of life of male and female elderly aged 65 years older using data from the 2013-2015 Korean Community Health Survey (KCHS). The results showed that compared to the male elderly, the female elderly was less educated, did not have a spouse or had less household income, had poorer health behaviors, and had lower quality of life caused by restrictions in life. The female elderly had significantly lower quality of life than that of the male elderly. Various factors were found to affect quality of life in both sexes. The presence of spouse and BMI did not affect quality of life of men but did affect the quality of life of women. On the other hand, smoking affected the quality of life of men but not of women. Based on these results, more in-depth studies are needed on the female elderly, who have been reported to have lower health-related quality of life, and sex-specific services and programs that could more effectively improve the quality of life among the elderly should also be developed.

The subjects were 300 working mothers who are aged under 50, have more than one child live in Seoul. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0. The Results are follows. First, the analysis of work-family conflicts, spousal support and support systems for work-family compatibility, and psychological well-being of working mothers indicated that the working mothers perceived family-work conflict to be higher than work-family conflict. The working mothers received stronger support from support systems intended for work-family compatibility than from their spouses. The score of the psychological well-being of the working mothers was 3.27 (standard deviation = .91), which is higher than median. Second, the factors influencing the working mothers' psychological well-being were age, monthly household income, number of children, work${\rightarrow}$family and family${\rightarrow}$work conflict, and spousal support. Greater psychological well-being was linked to a young maternal age, a high monthly household income, a low number of children, low levels of work${\rightarrow}$family and family${\rightarrow}$work conflict, and strong spousal support.
