A Study on Improving the Performance of Document Classification Using the Context of Terms (용어의 문맥활용을 통한 문헌 자동 분류의 성능 향상에 관한 연구)

  • One of the limitations of BOW method is that each term is recognized only by its form, failing to represent the term's meaning or thematic background. To overcome the limitation, different profiles for each term were defined by thematic categories depending on contextual characteristics. In this study, a specific term was used as a classification feature based on its meaning or thematic background through the process of comparing the context in those profiles with the occurrences in an actual document. The experiment was conducted in three phases; term weighting, ensemble classifier implementation, and feature selection. The classification performance was enhanced in all the phases with the ensemble classifier showing the highest performance score. Also, the outcome showed that the proposed method was effective in reducing the performance bias caused by the total number of learning documents.

Text mining on internet-news regarding climate change and food (기후변화 및 식품 관련 뉴스기사의 텍스트 마이닝)

  • Despite of correlation between climate changes and food-related information, it is still not easy for many users to get access to the information with interest. This study investigated how much climate change and food-related information are correlated with each other and how often they are exposed through frequency and correlation analysis on news articles on the internet portals. Through analysis on the frequency of climate change and food-related news articles, this study was able to figure out how often they are exposed at the same time by the internet news portals. In addition, a total of 59 correlation rules regarding the climate change and food-related vocabularies were derived from these news articles using the climate change and food-related glossaries. Then, a correlation between certain climate change-related and food-related words was analyzed in order to package the related words.

  • The document-term frequency matrix is a general data of objects in text mining. In this study, we introduce a traditional term weighting scheme TF-IDF (term frequency-inverse document frequency) which is applied in the document-term frequency matrix and used for text classifications. In addition, we introduce and compare TF-IDF-ICSDF and TF-IGM schemes which are well known recently. This study also provides a method to extract keyword enhancing the quality of text classifications. Based on the keywords extracted, we applied support vector machine for the text classification. In this study, to compare the performance term weighting schemes, we used some performance metrics such as precision, recall, and F1-score. Therefore, we know that TF-IGM scheme provided high performance metrics and was optimal for text classification.

A Study on Thesaurus Development Based on Women's Oral History Records in Modern Korea (한국 근대 여성 구술 기록물을 통한 시소러스 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a thesaurus for women's oral history in modern Korea. Literature review and case studies for four thesauri were performed for this study with which a thesaurus was built based upon the index terms in oral history records. The process of developing the thesaurus consisted of five steps. First, there are 1,784 index terms from the oral history records by 53 modern Korean women were extracted and analyzed. Second, possible terms for the thesaurus were selected through regular meetings with experts in the fields of information organization and women's oral history. Third, relationships between terms were defined by focusing on equivalence, hierarchy, and association. Fourth, after developing a Web-based thesaurus management system, terms and relationships were input to the system. Fifth, terms and relationships were again reviewed by experts from the relevant fields. As a result, the thesaurus comprise of 1,076 terms and those terms were classified to 39 broad subject areas, including proper nouns, such as geographic names, places, person's names, corporate names, and others, and it will be expanded with more oral history records from other people during the same period.

A Study on Classification System of Korean Literatures Thesaurus (고전 용어 시소러스의 분류 체계에 관한 연구)

  • This study aim to develop a classification system to classify the descriptors, which is been in korean literatures. Firstly this classification structure is categorized on six facets and the classification system is constructed on a deductive method based on korean literature knowledge. The study compared the classification system with various thesaurus's classification system in humane studies and by the comparison, the classification system of korean literature's terms find out having some merits as using the facet method. On account of these merits the classification system has achieved a consistency of categorization independently and reduced a complexity of classification structure. And by categorizing the common categories, the study has reduced the size of schedules. Finally, the classification system has advanced the structure in the process of classifying the descriptors.

The Scope of Risk, Crisis, and Disaster Management in Wide and Narrow Sense (광의와 협의의 위험, 위기, 재난관리의 범위)

  • This study examines the definitions and the scopes of risk, crisis, and disaster management in narrow and wide sense. Generally, the meanings and the scopes of these terms have been used in a very confused manner, and that is the main reason of the difficulty of interdisciplinary approach to disaster related study. In a practical manner, these terms needs to be defined more correctly, for the effective communications among various fields of academic and professional disciplines. This study tries to divide the meanings and the scopes of risk management, disaster management, and crisis management in narrow and wide sense, to define them in a more elaborate manner. Though these three terms can be distinguished in narrow sense, they have almost same meanings when we use them in wide sense.

  • To maintain consistency of terms in information retrieval process, it is necessary to present the meaning of terms definitely in thesaurus. Therefore, most of thesauri has presented meaning of terms through basic relationships or scope notes. But. thesaurus including standardized definitions in contents and form has been proposed lately. This study was performed to make standardized definitions and extract relationships in contents of defining models. Also, expanded thesaurus was constructed being integrated and replaced standardized definitions and extracted relationships into the existing thesaurus. As the result. this study has shown a possibility for further development of thesaurus.

  • Cross-lingual text retrieval(CLTR) is the information retrieval in which a user tries to search a set of documents written in one language for a query another language. This thesis proposes a CLTR system based on fuzzy multilingual thesaurus to handle a partial matching between terms of two different languages. The proposed CLTR system uses a fuzzy term matrix defined in our thesis to perform the information retrieval effectively. In the defined fuzzy term matrix, all relation degrees between terms are inferred from using the transitive closure algorithm to reflect all implicit links between terms into processing of the information retrieval. With this framework, the CLTR system proposed in our thesis enhances the retrieval effectiveness because it is able to emulate a human expert's decision making well in CLTR.

Document Summarization using Pseudo Relevance Feedback and Term Weighting (의사연관피드백과 용어 가중치에 의한 문서요약)

  • In this paper, we propose a document summarization method using the pseudo relevance feedback and the term weighting based on semantic features. The proposed method can minimize the user intervention to use the pseudo relevance feedback. It also can improve the quality of document summaries because the inherent semantic of the sentence set are well reflected by term weighting derived from semantic feature. In addition, it uses the semantic feature of term weighting and the expanded query to reduce the semantic gap between the user's requirement and the result of proposed method. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves better performant than other methods without term weighting.
