The Characteristics of Area Studies and their Relationship to Geography (지역연구의 특성과 지라학과의 관계)

  • 지역연구는 해외지역연구(foreign area studies)의 준말로, 연구자의 문화와는 다른 문화권 혹은 국가를 대상으로 하는 학제적인 연구이다. 지역은 시대와 정의자에 따라 변화할 수 있는 인지개념으로 세계지역, 문화지역, 국가단위지역 등으로 구분될 수 있다. 지역연구는 1920년대에 미국에서 시작되었으며 제2차 세계대전을 계기로 본격적으로 발전하였다. 전쟁 전에는 유럽지역이 지역연구의 주요 대상지역이었으며 전후 냉전시기에는 제3세계가, 그리고 현재는 전세계의 모든 지역이 연구지역으로서 주요한 가치를 지닌다. 지역연구는 정책지향적이고 학제적인 연구이며 현장연구를 중요시하는 특성을 지닌다. 지역연구자가 되기 위해서는 전공분야의 학위와 현지언어 능력, 광범위한 지역 지식, 현장 경험 등을 갖춰야 한다. 그러나 분과학문과 지역에 대한 관심의 균형 문제가 분과보편주의와 지역특수주의 간의 갈등으로 나타나 지역연구의 목적이 희석되기도 하였다. 지리학은 몇가지 이유로 인해 지난 몇 십년간 지역연구에 대해 비교적 관심을 덜 가졌다. 그러나 지리학자는 공간 상호작용의 분석과 자연환경에의 접근 등을 통하여 지역연구의 발전에 기여할 수 있으며 지역연구의 큰 목적 중의 하나인 지역성 구명의 문제에서 중요한 역할을 할 수 있다.

  • Korean entrepreneurship education has been focused on the subject selection and curriculum based research according to the stage of entrepreneurship process. But problem is happen in the theory based lecture and unrealistic content of entrepreneurship education. Recent studies in technology entrepreneurship recommend integrated approaches to educating students to operate in this space integrated programs span disciplinary lines, but more important, they combine coursework on fundamental concepts and processes with real team-based projects on technology commercialization. At the core of TI:GER(R) is a three-course academic track that provides instruction in technology commercialization processes with a focus on intellectual property/technology law and business fundamentals. Technology, management, and law are the key success content of entrepreneurship education and we need the approach the integration of these factors.

A Study on the Integration process of School structure in East Germany after German Unification (독일통일 후 구동독 학제통합 과정 연구)

  • This study aims to examine the integration process of educational system and school structure of the former East Germany into the Federal Republic of Germany following German unification. More specifically, the study focuses on drawing some policy suggestions and implications for achieving integration of South and North Korean educational system in a unified Korea. In fact, the school structure in the former East Germany had been integrated into West German educational system and school structure before and after official German unification by way of so called transitional process. The results of the study indicate that the integration process of school structure in the former East Germany into West German educational system was quite successful with stable management by means of various transitional measures and reaching an agreement between East and West Germany. Additionally, the study presents that local characteristics regarding school structure in the former East Germany were recognized and introduced in the integration process and they managed to handle the social change situation after German unification flexibly. However, it shows some shortcomings because it had been carried out in too short a period of time and the positive factors of school structure in the former East Germany had not been enough taken account into the integration process, along with the lack of inner comprehensive relevant infrastructure. Furthermore, the study points out that German case of school structure and its integration process after German unification has implications for specific ways Korea should pursue to achieve integration of South and North Korean educational system in a unified Korea. To be more specific, it suggests how we come up with plans and measures to establish integration of South and North Korean school structure in a stable way especially in terms of dealing with North Korean school structure and building an inner infrastructure.

  • Today it is critical for all engineers to have the capability of interacting in teams with members of different background and to meet the challenges that they will encounters in their careers. To satisfy such needs multidisciplinary engineering-design courses are attracting more attentions than ever in the engineering education community. In this paper we analyze abroad cases of engineering interdisciplinary design. And we suggest an activation strategy of engineering interdisciplinary design.

Interdisciplinary Collaborations in the Domain of Digital Libraries (디지털도서관 분야의 학제적 공동연구 분석에 관한 연구)

  • The domain of digital libraries is one of interdisciplinary fields since it contains various aspects of digital libraries. The main findings of digital library interdisciplinarity have been discussed in terms of contents, management and infrastructural technologies within the field of library and information science. The purpose of this study is to identify and widen the interdisciplinary structure of digital library domain by analyzing the collaborations from different disciplines. With 1,394 research articles of digital libraries from 1997 to 2010, the analysis of collaborations of authors from various disciplines was conducted. The results identified that three subject areas of authors such as Information science and library science, Computer science and Engineering were found as the centers to collaborate with various disciplines. In addition, sub-domains of digital library were recognized in terms of core digital library area, natural science area, medical related area and biology and medical area. The findings of this study depict the domain of digital libraries as a variety of subject areas since digital library domain is characterized with both research and practices.

Examining the interdisciplinary structure of Korean cognitive science through analyzing author affiliations and title words (연구자 소속과 표제어 분석을 통한 국내 인지과학 분야의 학제적 구조 파악)

  • 이 연구에서는 국내 인지과학 분야의 연구자 소속 정보와 논문의 표제어 분석을 통해 학제적 구조 파악을 시도해 보았다. 연구 결과 국내 인지과학 분야에서 대표되는 학문 영역은 컴퓨터과학, 심리학, 언어학, 인지과학, 철학, 교육학, 의학, 경영학이었다. 두 시기(1기: 1989-1998, 2기: 1999-2003)로 구분하여 분석한 결과 국내 인지과학 분야는 1기에서는 컴퓨터과학, 심리학, 언어학 순으로 우세한 학문분야가 나타났다. 이와 달리 2기에서는 심리학, 컴퓨터과학, 인지과학, 언어학의 순이었다. 이 같은 결과는 컴퓨터과학의 비중이 초기에 가장 높다가 감소했다는 점에서 외국의 사례와 유사하지만, 외국에 비해서 언어학 분야 연구자의 비중이 다소 높은 것이 국내 인지과학 연구의 특징인 것으로 나타났다. 연구자가 사용한 표제어를 분석한 결과 두 시기에서 모두 컴퓨터과학과 심리학은 인지과학분야에서 융합되기 보다는 독자적인 연구영역을 형성하였다. 또한 시기별 표제어 분석을 통해서 컴퓨터과학이나 심리학 소속 인지과학 연구자들의 관심사가 1기에서 2기로 넘어가면서 변화한 부분을 확인할 수 있었다.

A Study on Interdisciplinary Structure of Big Data Research with Journal-Level Bibliographic-Coupling Analysis (학술지 단위 서지결합분석을 통한 빅데이터 연구분야의 학제적 구조에 관한 연구)

  • Interdisciplinary approach has been recognized as one of key strategies to address various and complex research problems in modern science. The purpose of this study is to investigate the interdisciplinary characteristics and structure of the field of big data. Among the 1,083 journals related to the field of big data, multiple Subject Categories (SC) from the Web of Science were assigned to 420 journals (38.8%) and 239 journals (22.1%) were assigned with the SCs from different fields. These results show that the field of big data indicates the characteristics of interdisciplinarity. In addition, through bibliographic coupling network analysis of top 56 journals, 10 clusters in the network were recognized. Among the 10 clusters, 7 clusters were from computer science field focusing on technical aspects such as storing, processing and analyzing the data. The results of cluster analysis also identified multiple research works of analyzing and utilizing big data in various fields such as science & technology, engineering, communication, law, geography, bio-engineering and etc. Finally, with measuring three types of centrality (betweenness centrality, nearest centrality, triangle betweenness centrality) of journals, computer science journals appeared to have strong impact and subjective relations to other fields in the network.
