  • Today, many learned societies are very interested in publishing international journal, especially for titles from non-English speaking countries. In Korea, there is not many studies on publishing international journals except for some cases trying to internationalize domestic journals. This study analyzed international factors of domestic 143 titles offering DOI by KoreaScience. The analysis showed that many of these journals have low impact factors and editorial board without a lot of foreign scholars. Some titles don't have online submission platform or English websites. It is recommended that domestic journals should reinforce international factors including global distribution with visibility to be considered as reputable international journals.

  • This study aims to develop a checklist that could identify the characteristics of predatory journals suspected of being poorly operated from the time of submission to publication. Accordingly 17 checklist questions were developed based on 3 priorities through overseas case studies and expert opinions. To verify the developed checklist, 100 journals included in Beall's list were randomly extracted and analyzed. As a result, 96 journals had features that were suspected to be questionable, there were not found in the 4 journals. A further case study and follow-up study of journals published in a broader field of research will require continued revision and supplementation of the 17 questions developed in this study.

  • This study analyzed humanities and social science (HSS) journals of KCI to examine the multidisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity in the general and miscellaneous fields (hereinafter referred to as 'GM fields'), The multidisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity identified in this study will be a foundation to improve classification of KCI journals in GM fields. Each journal's multidisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity were measured by journal-level entropy and document-level entropy, respectively, in the citation relationships. According to the analysis, GM field journals have wide ranges of multidisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity. To improve classification quality of journals in GM fields, the general humanities should be considered as a new classification class for the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary journals in the humanities. Furthermore, this study proposes a strategy to reclassify GM field journals of HSS according to their multidisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity.

  • The academic journal is a very important means for science communication, and it is critical for academic development. Most of Korean academic journals are not doing their fundamental roles because of the researchers' perception about their quality. A fundamental thing for Korean academic journals to contribute effectively to science communication would be the effective evaluation on the Journal. The purpose of this study is to develop an evaluation model for Korean academic journals. This model will be effective for quality measurement, manifestation of the strength and weakness, and for the improvement of journal quality. It was developed through analysis on evaluation activities of two institutions, and through interviews and surveys on Korean researchers.

  • In this study, we proposed the FRAD concept model of authority data schema for author, organization and journal titles included in the academic papers. Academic information includes author names, affiliations, publishers, journals and conferences. They are used as access points, and there are multiple relationships among these entities. It is expected that the use of authority data for academic information based on FRAD conceptual model could improve more accurate retrieval of information, systematic management of academic information, and various forms of knowledge representation. In this study, our entity-relationship authority data will be linked to the document, and included the several properties and relationship to identify the object.
