This study attempts to reorganize the knowledge classification system for the research fields and majors in education by designing a new classification schedule. Content analysis of the majors and curriculums in the universities and major areas of the academic professors in Korea, and the comparison with the various headings in several classification systems for research fields were carried out. Based upon the comparison with library classification systems and reviews and opinions of subject specialists in major disciplines, finally, a knowledge classification system composed of three parts - schedules, tables and a relative index - was presented. The proposed classification scheme was tested for classifying the research projects listed in the 1998 catalog of the academic research funded by Korea Research Foundation. Also, several ways for developing a more useful knowledge classification scheme to organize disciplinary information effectively and to encourage interdisciplinary research were suggested.

The purpose of this study is to develop internal tables in Christian religion in the 5th edition of Korean Decimal Classification. The scope of the Christianity, its structure of various classification schemes, and the concepts of internal tables were analyzed. The contents of several textbooks were analyzed for the scope of the discipline and the classification schemes and internal tables of DDC, UDC, NDC, LCC, Classification of the Library of Union Theological Seminary and the Classification of the Korea Theological Library were compared. And then, internal tables in Bible, sermon, worship, church history were built and those tables were evaluated by librarians and experts in the fields. And finally, internal tables of the Christiainity and new headings were suggested. New internal tables in Christianity will increase the effectiveness of information retrieval and it will provide a foundation for developing internal tables in other disciplines.

This study aims to content analysis of Library Classification System in the North Korean. Also This paper is analyze and overview to conceptual framework. Notational system. Principle of hierarchy in the North Korean's Library Classification System. Libraries usually arrange their collections according to the systematic structure of the library classification. A decimal point follows the third digit. After which division by ten continues to the specific degree of classification needed. This system is based on the social and communism thought. The libraries in the South and the North has different concepts, goals, information resources, classification system and the different ways of using them. Considering the practical aspects of the libraries and the reasons for their existence, they must structure the mutual cooperative system so as to minimize the shock when confronting the social changes, so-cold the national unification.

Cadastral Science has not been evaluated as an independent discipline according to Code of Research Fields of Korea Research Foundation. The purpose of this study is to find the problems of knowledge classification of Cadastral Science and suggest method of improvement. For the studying, analyzes the definition, objects of research, educational system and curriculum of Cadastral Science. Besides, investigates the condition of Cadastre classification on Code of Research Fields, DDC and KDC. This paper suggests that Cadastral Science can be restructured to the new Interdisciplinary Studies and moved to the upper division. The items of division and subdivision can be also added.

DOC 20판에서는 보조표 활용을 위하여 다양한 형태의 주기(Note)가 여러 곳에 마련되어 있다. 이 주기는 새로운 학문들이 이전판의 분류체재와의 중복성을 극복하고, 정확한 문헌분류를 위한 중요한 문법규칙들을 포함하고 있다. 그러나. 기술된 주기의 다양성이 제대로 정리되어 있지 않아서 이 주기의 활용은 미흡한 실정이다. 따라서, 본 연구는 DDC 20판의 보조표 T1(표준세분표: Standard Subdivisions) 및 T2(지리, 시대, 인물 구분표: Geographic Areas, Historical Periods, Persons)에 대안 이용주기를 통계적 빈도수를 고려하여 분석하고, 분석된 주기를 유형별로 분류하여 각 유형별 분류기호 생성 문법을 마련하였으며, 분류기호 생성 문법을 유도트리(Derivation tree)를 활용하여 정확한 분류과정을 예시하고, 이를 자동분류시스템으로 활용할 수 있는 분류진원 전문가시스템 모형을 설계하였다.

This study suggests some ideas for improvement of mixing classification and illogical subdivisions arrangement of Statistics in Social Science and Mathematical Statistics in Natural Science on KDC. We investigate the characteristics, educational system, and curriculum of Statistics in Korea. Besides, we compare and analyze classification systems such as KDC, DDC, LCC, NDC and Research Fields Code by National Research Foundation of Korea. As a result, Statistics in Social Science is relocated and integrated with the subfield of Natural Science according to the academic background. Existing social statistics topics are subdivided into statistical research methods complementing social science research methods. The heading 'Probabilities, Statistical mathematics' in Natural Science is changed to 'Statistics', and the subdivisions are expanded and revised.

This study investigated general problems concerning the food and nutrition field in the KDC 4th edition based comparative analysis DOC, NDC, and Disciplinary Classification System of Korean Research Foundation, and suggested on some ideas for the improvements of them. Results of the study is summarized as follows. First, the knowledge classification of the food and nutrition field is divided by nutrition, food, and food service management. Second, the library classification of the food and nutrition field deals separately with nutrition and food, namely the nutrition is subdivided in medical science and food is subdivided in home economics. Third, the food and nutrition field in the KDC 4th edition had to be improved to use current terminology, to choose appropriate headings, and to subdivide the subjects more to introduce new topics.

This study is intended to present methods improving the classification system of KDC architecture engineering fields after comparing and analyzing the academic system of architecture engineering, classification system of KDC, DDC, and LCC, and that of the research field classification system of National Research Foundation of Korea. The results of the analysis have revealed that it is required to improve and correct the KDC 5th edition of architectural engineering including the addition of classification items that reflect the trend of academic development, proper development in the rank classification terms of architectural structure engineering, addition of detailed subjects, selection of proper classification terms, errors of classification symbols and English expression, and omission of correlative indexes in the classification items. This study has proposed improved methods to solve those problems.

This study investigated and analyzed various library classification systems and related literature in order to suggest some modifications and expansion of the Dewey Decimal Classification, the 23rd edition (DDC 23) in the area of immigration policy - an interdisciplinary subject - for the best information organization and services. First of all, definitions and scopes of the immigration policy were dealt with and then primary subject areas of it were selected. And then, DDC, Library of Congress Classification, Korean Decimal Classification, and Universal Decimal Classification were compared and analyzed according to the structures, headings and characteristics. Finally, modified classification schedules in immigration policy of the DDC 23 - the most frequently used one with an regular revision was proposed with their principles and main schedules with an auxiliary table. It can be used for an effective information organization in immigration policy area and it will be useful for many libraries and research institutes on immigration policy.
