  • It is important to explore ways that reinforce teachers' curricular expertise at the school level as the school curriculum autonomy expands. This study investigated teachers' curricular expertise that is required for teachers' professionalism, autonomy, and accountability to cope with the increasing school curriculum autonomy. Teachers in the future school are expected to explore and develop school level curriculum within a given school context. Through literature reviews, domestic and foreign case studies, and survey of teachers, this study examined difficulties in science teachers' exercise of their professionalism on curriculum organization and implementation at the school level. Difficulties in exercising teachers' curricular expertise include lack of actual autonomy in curriculum operation at the school level, inadequate infrastructures, demanding accountability based on students' achievement results, lack of time for reflection, and lack of recognition for teachers as independent curriculum designers. In the conclusion section, a couple of ways to solve these difficulties are suggested including expansion of actual autonomy, activation of teachers' participation in policy decision making, reinforcement of qualitative components in school assessment, diversification of the teacher's career ladder, and activation of teachers' participation in professional learning communities.

The examples used in the study were two high schools in Gyeonggi - do, and the collected data were visualized in concept form through semantic analysis process. The results of the two schools are summarized as follows. First, the revision of unit school curriculum has been started through crisis and challenge awareness. Second, it is necessary to use the free lecture system suggested in the 2015 revised curriculum. Third, students should change their perceptions of students and curriculum by enhancing class through various skills and education activities suitable for high school level. Fourth, we must continuously strive to develop professionalism as a technology teacher. It is difficult to expand the curriculum of the school because there is only one technology teacher in the general high school. • This study aimed at investigating the physics curriculum implemented in science core schools. Thus, the researchers analyzed the science curriculum articulated in the annual reports of science core schools and interviewed some teachers in the schools to identify the features of the physics curriculum. The research findings were as follows: First, with respect to the teaching units by subjects, general science had the largest proportion, as much as 6.7 hours in average, and physics I and II were 4.2 and 4.4 hours, respectively, which were similar to other subjects such as chemistry, life science, and earth science. Second, most of schools opened the courses of physics I and II with two hours for two semesters. Fourteen schools taught physics I as an intensive unit whereas nine schools taught physics II intensively. In the case of specialized subjects, the most frequent one was independent research, and advanced physics was taught in 7 schools whereas physics experiments were done in 34 schools. Based on the findings, this study gives some implications about how to organize the physics curriculum in science core schools according to the 2015 revised science curriculum.

  • The purposes of this study were to analyze the home economics(hereafter HE) curriculum in Victoria State, Australia, and to derive the implications for the HE curriculum in Korea. To accomplish the purposes, the contents of the curriculum were analyzed through the relevant web pages, and the actual conditions of the HE curriculum implementation were identified through e-mail and interviews with HE teachers and administrator. The results of this study were as follows. First, the HE curriculum for F-10 was one of the cross-curriculum resources based on the content descriptions and achievement standards of 'Design and Technologies' and 'Health and Physical Education' curriculum. Because the HE curriculum is competency-based curriculum and did not stipulate what was to be taught then, HE teachers had lots of autonomy in organizing and operating the curriculum, which led to the need for professionalism. Second, VCE subjects, both 'Food Studies' and 'Health and Human Development', which are HE elective curriculum for 11th and 12th graders, require students to take written tests produced by the VCAA. Because there are no specific details to be taught in the curriculum, the HE teacher had the need to devise and operate various classes to foster problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills, etc. Third, HE teachers had the discretion to create all the subject names, contents to deal with, and evaluations to prepare for the school curriculum, and thus were exerting their professionalism. This was due to the fact that the system was well equipped and VCE subjects were audited, even though teachers' performances were related to their individual competencies.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the performance of the Daegu Happiness Competency Education Program. It was confirmed that students, parents, teachers, and education professions are aware of the middle and higher level of education for happiness in Daegu in terms of the formation and operation of the curriculum. There is no significant difference between students and parents in terms of average value, and teachers' perception level is relatively high, which is understandable in that teachers are the subjects of the curriculum organization and operation. In addition, there was no statistically significant difference between the parents and the school level, but there were significant differences between students and teachers. In particular, students' and teachers' perceptions were lowered as the number of schools increased, unlike the predictions. They showed the lowest results in the special schools, autonomous schools and special schools. The reason for this is that Daegu Happiness Competency Education was implemented in 2014, and it was because there was little room to recognize and accept the new curriculum due to the burden of college entrance examination or employment. In the future, it will naturally improve as the education process is settled, but here we can find suggestions for the establishment of Daegu Happiness Competency Education.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the secondary school technology and home economics teachers' perception of the school curriculum organization and high school credit system. For this purpose, the questionnaire data of 345 secondary technology and home economics teachers nationwide were analyzed through descriptive statistics, t-test, and F-test with SPSS 24. The research results were as follows. First, technology and home economics teachers recognized that current schools lacked the time to organize technology and home economics curriculum (61.1%) and the number of teachers (53%). Most of them have participated (62.0%) and were very willing to participate in the school curriculum organization (4.47, 89.9%). Second, technology and home economics teachers were aware of the high school credit system more than the average (3.34), and more negative (52.8%) than positive (37.7%). As a positive influence, students recognized career choices (3.88) and deepened professional content in their major fields (3.81). On the other hand, the negative impact was the decrease in choice due to non-entry subjects (3.90) and the difficulty in moving teachers to school (3.57). Third, in order to stably respond to the introduction of high school credit system, technology and home economics teachers recognized the importance of coordinating career elective courses (4.51), developing and disseminating teaching and learning materials for elective courses (4.46), separating technology and home economics (4.45), and providing training on evaluation methods and applications (4.44). This study would be useful to provide the basic information and data for the future development of technology and home economics curriculum at the national level based on high school credit system.
