The riparian vegetation is one of corridor type ecosystems, an ecotone and able to improve the ecological soundness by structural and functional link. And they act as habitats, sources and sinks of species, conduits, filters and barriers. This study was carried out to develop the vegetation model for the fluctuation areas of lake reservoirs consider of hydrologic and soil environments according to the vegetation structure of the reference ecosystem. To develop the case study, 2 sites within 10degree slope of the Daecheong Lake were selected. The riparian vegetation models were built by the results of GIS analysis, remote satellite analysis, field survey results, consider of water level, flooded frequency, soil and topographic index, land cover or land use etc. 1) study area varied from FWL to -5m of NFWL, 2) slope 10% below, 3) vegetations flooded below 100days yearly are Salix koreensis, Salix chaenomeloides, Salix gracilistyla, 4)land cover type classified wildlife grassland, abandoned paddy field, cropland according to landuse (or landcover), 5)finally model was constructed as ecological landscape forest. The model designs were suggested by 2 types in Daecheong lake reservoir. The model for the riparian vegetation corridors could be the basic and useful data to improve the ecological and landscape properties.

This study aims to elicit criteria regarding reassessment and designation of linear scenic sites henceforth. The results are as follows; First, based on the documents from the Cultural Properties Protection Committee of Korea, 23 out of 113 scenic sites in Korea were drawn, and their linear characteristics were categorized into four types including valleys, paths, rivers, and ridges. The linear scenic sites provide certain features in terms of sequence and direction, which results in the similar utilization among the sites which share the linear similarity. Second, the 23 sites mentioned above were intensely examined on the basis of six criteria for linear scenic sites through FGI, focus group interview. The criteria consist of six elements involving core resource(12), lot number(8), unclear(8), management path(5), ridge(4), basin(3). Third, the Cultural Heritage Administration has prioritized core resource since 2010, when designating a scenic site, whereas it tended to consider lot number as priority prior to 2010. It is thought that the authority gave consideration to issues related to private ownership of property in the scenic sites and the purpose of designation. Fourth, scenic sites are generally designated in accordance with the boundary of core resource, and in most cases, there are buffer zones alongside the core resource.
Tidal channel development is influenced by sediment type, grain size, composition and tidal current. Tidal channels are usually characterized by channel formation, density and shape. Quantitative analysis of tidal channels using remotely sensed data have rarely been studied. The objective of this study is to quantify tidal channels in terms of fractal dimension and compare different inter-tidal channel patterns and compare with DEM (Digital Elevation Model). For the fractal analysis, we used box counting method which had been successfully applied to streams, coastlines and others linear features. For a study, the southern part of Ganghwado tidal flats was selected which know for high dynamics of tidal currents and vast tidal flats. This area has different widths and lengths of tidal channels. IKONOS was used for extracting tidal channels, and the box counting method was applied to obtain fractal dimensions (D) for each tidal channel. Yeochari area where channels showed less dense development and low DEM had low fractal dimenwion near $1.00{\sim}1.20$. Area (near Donggumdo and Yeongjongdo) of dendritic channel pattern and high DEM resulted in high fractal dimension near $1.20{\sim}1.35$. The difference of fractal dimensions according to channel development in tidal flats is relatively large enough to use as an index for tidal channel classification. Therefore we could conclude that fractal dimension, channel development and DEM in tidal channel has high correlation. Using fractal dimension, channel development and DEM, it would be possible to quantify the tidal channel development in association with surface characteristics.
Some concrete wastewater generated during construction is in the form of non-point pollution sources that workers, managers, and users are unaware of, and it is not easy to manage as it flows through sewage pipes. Due to these characteristics, construction sludge is inflow into rivers and sewage pipes in the form of non-point pollution sources in an unmanaged state. This study applied the D.W.S method to the concrete retaining wall removal method installed on the road, and the resulting concrete wastewater was physically and chemically treated through a mobile sewage treatment facility, and it was examined whether it met the removal efficiency and wastewater discharge acceptance standards. Accordingly, it is intended to meet the standards for effluent concentration of wastewater during construction by removing 73.5% of BOD and 89.1% of SS through physical and chemical treatment through portable sewage treatment facilities during construction. In addition, we would like to review the adequacy and economic analysis of calculating environmental conservation costs for physicochemical treatment through portable sewage treatment facilities and sewage treatment generated during construction.
To understand human activity in the past, the information about past environmental change including geomorphological and climatic conditions is essential and this can be traced by using age dating and geochemical analysis of sediments from the prehistoric sites. The sedimentary sequence of Seokgwan-dong Paleolithic Site located in Seoul was 5m long unconsolidated sediments and consists of lower part bedrock weathering sediments, slope deposits and upper-part fluvial deposits. In this study, upper part sediments were used to reconstruct past environmental change through age dating and various physical and chemical analyses including grain size, magnetic susceptibility and mineral and elements. The fluvial sediments can be divided into 4 units including three organic layers. Grain size analysis results showed that the sediments were very poorly sorted with fining upward features. Magnetic susceptibility was relatively high in the organic layers, indicating environmental changes causing mineral composition change at that times. The mineral and major element composition are similar to Jurassic biotite granite which mainly consists of quartz, K-feldspar, biotite and muscovite. The radiocarbon age of $14,240{\pm}80yr$ BP was obtained from the lower most organic layer of Unit III(O), suggesting that the fluvial sediments formed at least from the early stage of deglacial period after the end of Last Glacial Maximum. Subsequent wet and warm climates and resultant fluvial process including slope sedimentation during the Holocene may have been responsible for the sedimentary sequence in Seokgwan-dong paleolithic site and surrounding area. The observed organic layers suggests frequent wetland occurrence combined with natural levee changes in this area.
The closely spaced cores were analyzed to find detailed reconstruction of paleoenvironments and sealable changes along the Delaware Bay coast. Three areas, Kitts Hummock Beach mars, the St. Jones River marsh, and Bowers marsh near the St. Jones River's mouth, were chosen because these areas are compose of their own geomorphic characteristics and sea-level history. since significance of the stratigraphic correlations was to determine sedimentary fancies and paleoenvironments, multidisciplinary methods such as lithological description, grain-size analysis, organic/inorganic content, water content, mineral composition, botanical analysis, micropaleontological analysis, and /SUP 14/C datings were performed. Five major divisions of marsh environments were recognized in the stratigraphic sections: freshwater marsh, initialfreshwater marsh, slightly brackish marsh, brackish marsh, and salt marsh. Most of the lower part in the stratigraphic sections show freshwater marsh. On the top of this, either brackish marsh or tidal flat/tidal stream was recorded. The pro-Holocene sediments consist of sand, mud, and sandy mud, The pre-Holocene configuration played an important role for developing the Holocene Paleoenvironmental changes. The irregular configuration of the pre-Holocene sediments consist of sand, mud, and sandy mud. The pre-Holocene configuration played an important role for developing the Holocene Paleoenvironmental changes. The irregular configuration of the pre-Holocene surface within short distances permitted the concurrent development of variable environments such as freshwater marsh, brackish marsh or salt marsh at similar elevations. The freshwater marsh in this case was formed in the areas of isolation, so saline-water cannot encroach upon these areas. This complex development of paleoenvironments leads to a difficulty in stratigraphic correlation and interpretation of local relative sea-level changes. The deposition of subsurface sediments was affected by sediment supply, compaction, fluvial activity, biological competition, local tectonics and isostacy, climate and local relative sea-level changes. It was interpreted that the positions in the changes from freshwater environments to brackish environments or ice versa are the turning points of transgressions and regressions. Therefore, multiple transgressions and regressions were identified in the stratigraphic sections of the study area.

Within the urban area, over the past decades unused land and public land such as streams and road sides have given urban residents a space for farming (urban farms). However, because this use is illegal, farming in unused and public lands could cause conflicts between urban farm users and land owners, degrade the quality of the urban landscape and contaminate the environment. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to provide a way of legalizing these farming practices that have been cultivated in unused urban areas and public lands. This study analyzed the status of distribution and use of the urban farms that have been scattered around urban areas in many different forms. The survey was conducted through on-the-spot investigation and in-person interviews with farm users and those who were operating weekend farms in the Siji region of Daegu Metropolitan City. According to the results of this study, urban farms were mainly found in green areas that were easily accessible from residential districts and prohibited from development. It was also revealed that the nearer to the border of the residential districts the sites of urban farms were, the larger the number of urban farms was. When it comes to the type of land use, although the proportion of urban farms located in farmlands was very high, the proportion of those located on state-owned lands such as roads, railroads and streams was also high, over 1/3 of that of the former sites. Among the users of urban farms, the percentage of users who were farming private-owned land for free was highest and that of state-owned land without permission ranked second. Most people who were farming unused lands or state-owned lands without permission, such as streams, roads, railroads, were the elderly. This shows the potential of farms in urban area as leisure activities spaces for the elderly. Even though this study has limitations in that the survey target area was selected in a certain area and the sizes of all urban farms were not measured by surveying apparatus and instruments, it helps to determine the characteristics of use and distribution associated with the spaces of urban farming, and to raise the importance and necessity of legalizing urban farms cultivated illegally in public land.

The Riparian Buffer Zone has many potential values including the preservation of water quality as well as being ecologically friendly. This study aims to quantitatively analyze the landscape structure index of the Riparian Buffer Zone in the Kyoung-an stream and to produce base information necessary for proper management. The study used aerial images that were applied to geometric corrections for a time series from 1966 to 2000 for land data and also used FRAGSTATS, which is a type of ARCVIEW extension module, as an analysis tool. An analysis of land use change and the Landscape Index revealed that the area of farm land has decreased and that the area of residential property has increased. In addition, there was a slight change for land used for purposes other than farming or for residence. The results of analyzing the Landscape Structure Index, revealed that the NP has increased from 437 in 1966 to 695 in 2000. This data reveals that the change of land use is influenced by various artificial factors. The NPS, which represents the declining degree of patch, decreased from 9.441 to 5.934, revealing that the change of land use has been progressing considerably. In regard to forest areas, land use reduced somewhat but did not indicate a significant change. Therefore, an analysis of the total index reveals that the edge of patch has become more complicated and that the variation index of patch has increased significantly. However, this study reveals that barriers to block pollution have weakened as a result and that there is a need to concentrate on the implementation and the management of the Riparian Buffer Zone. Consequently, this study reveals that substantial research is necessary in order to carry out the proper management of the Riparian Buffer Zone, especially in light of the distribution type of each patch and the change in conditions regarding them.

Total maximum daily load enforced in 2004 is a program to evaluate the amount of pollutants by each land use type and manage to meet a target water quality of each waterbody. The many research to calculate runoff load of pollutants by landuse type have been studied. This study was conducted to calculate pollutants EMC, load and unit load in stormwater runoff generated from tomato growing area. Monitoring was conducted about 32 event during 4years and water quality parameters such as BOD, $COD_{Mn}$, TOC, TSS, TN, TP, $NH_3-N$, $NO_3-N$, $PO_4-P$ were analyzed at the laboratory. The average EMC were measured as follows: 9.6 BOD mg/L, 17.2 $COD_{Mn}$ mg/L, 5.5 TOC mg/L, 319.4 TSS mg/L, 4.4 T-N mg/L, 2.6 T-P mg/L, 0.5 $NH_3-N$ mg/L, 0.04 $NO_2-N$ mg/L, 2.6 $NO_3-N$ mg/L, 0.8 $PO_4-P$ mg/L. TN and TP is dichargeed as $NO_3-N$ and particle phosphorus type, respectively.
The status of heavy metal contamination was investigated using chemical analyses of stream waters and sediments obtained from Samsanjeil and Sambong Cu mining area in Goseong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do. In addition, the degree and the environmental risk of heavy metal contamination in stream sediments was assessed through pollution index (Pl) and danger index (DI) based on total digestion by aqua regia and fractionation of heavy metal contaminants by sequential extraction, respectively. Not only the degree of heavy metal contamination was significantly higher in Samsanjeil area than in Sambong area, but its environmental risk was also revealed much more serious in Samsanjeil area than in Sambong area. The differences in status and level of contamination and environmental risk between both two mining areas may be attributed to existence of contamination source and geology. Acid mine drainage is continuously discharged and flows into the stream in Samsanjeil mining area, and it makes the heavy metal contamination in the stream more deteriorated than in Sambong mining area in which acid mine drainage is not produced. In addition, the geology of Samsanjeil mining area is mainly comprised of andesitic rocks including a small amount of calcite and having lower pH buffering capacity fer acid mine drainage, and it is likely that the heavy metal contamination cannot be naturally attenuated in streams. On the contrary, the main geology of Sambong mining area consists of pyroclastic sedimentary Goseong formation containing a high content of carbonates, particularly calcite, and it seems that these carbonates of high pH buffering capacity prevent the heavy metal contamination from proceeding downstream in stream within that area.
