Development of Hybrid/Dual Swirl Jet Combustor for a MGT (Part II: Numerical Study on Isothermal Flow) (마이크로 가스터빈용 하이브리드/이중 선회제트 연소기 개발 (Part II: 비반응 유동에 관한 수치해석))

  • The isothermal flow structure and mixing characteristics of a hybrid/dual swirl jet combustor for micro-gas turbine (MGT) were numerically investigated. Location of pilot burner, swirl angle and direction were varied as main parameters with the identical thermal load. As a result, the variations in location of pilot nozzle, swirl angle and direction resulted in the significant change in turbulent flow field near burner exit, in particular, center toroidal recirculation zone (CTRZ) as well as turbulent intensity, and thus the flame stability and emission performance might be significantly changed. With the comparison of experimental results, the case of swirl angle $45^{\circ}$ and co-swirl flow including optimum location of pilot burner were chosen in terms of the flame stability and emissions for the development of hybrid/dual swirl jet combustor.

  • In this study, a new information-based hybrid modeling framework is proposed. In the hybrid framework, a conventional mathematical model is complemented by the informational methods. The basic premise of the proposed hybrid methodology is that not all features of system response are amenable to mathematical modeling, hence considering informational alternatives. This may be because (i) the underlying theory is not available or not sufficiently developed, or (ii) the existing theory is too complex and therefore not suitable for modeling within building frame analysis. The role of informational methods is to model aspects that the mathematical model leaves out. Autoprogressive algorithm and self-learning simulation extract the missing aspects from a system response. In a hybrid framework, experimental data is an integral part of modeling, rather than being used strictly for validation processes. The potential of the hybrid methodology is illustrated through modeling complex hysteretic behavior of beam-to-column connections.

Preparation and Property of POSS-Based Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Filler and Polyamide Thermoplastic Elastomer (PA-TPE)/POSS Nanocomposite (POSS 기반 유-무기 하이브리드 충전제와 폴리아미드계 TPE로 이루어진 나노복합체의 제조 및 특성)

  • Commercially available polyamide thermoplastic elastomer (PA-TPE) was blended with hybrid filler which was prepared by means of the reaction between polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) containing amine group and toluene diisocyanate (TDI)-caprolactam (CL) to explore the effect of blending the hybrid filler with the TPE. The chemical structure of the filler was identified by using FTIR and $^1H$ NMR. The composites, PA-TPE/POSS-(TDI+CL), which were the blends of TDI+CL modified POSS filler and PA-TPE up to 7 wt%, showed better elastic recovery delivered from lower tension setting compared to the PA-TPE and the PA-TPE/octaphenyl POSS blend. In addition the tensile strength and the initial modulus increased with increasing the hybrid filled content. Consequently it was assumed that the POSS-(TDI+CL) filler was a suitable material for enhancing strength and modulus without loss of elastic properties for the original PA-TPE.

A QoS Improvement Scheme for Real-time Traffic using IPv6 Flow Labels (IPv6 플로우 레이블을 이용한 실시간 트래픽의 QoS개선 방안)

  • The flow label field in IPv6 has been proposed to provide the QoS. Since the existing flow label specification scheme like random-number format utilizes the label only as the identifier of flow, it is not appropriate for providing differentiated services according to the characteristics of various types of real-time traffic. This paper proposes a hybrid scheme that makes use of the flow label fields as components of flow and QoS parameters as well. To be specific, this paper investigates a scheme that both guarantees the end-to-end service quality and utilizes efficiently backbone resources by allowing users to specify QoS parameters using flow labels. Assuming an MLPS-TE network as the backbone, we compare the performance of our proposed scheme with that of random-number scheme through simulation. The simulation result shows that our scheme is more efficient than the existing one in terms of the transmission rate as well as the resource utilization of the backbone.

Hybrid Precoder Design for Massive MIMO Systems with OSA structure (부분 중첩 안테나 배열 구조를 갖는 대용량 MIMO 시스템을 위한 하이브리드 프리코더 설계)

  • Since conventional massive antenna systems require too many RF chains, they have disadvantages of high implementation cost and complexity. To overcome this problem, hybrid precoding schemes have been proposed. But, they are still of high implementation cost and complexity because RF chains are connected to all antenna elements. In this paper, we consider massive MIMO systems with overlapped sub-array (OSA) structure and then, propose a hybrid precoding scheme. In the overlapped subarray structure, RF analog precoding matrix has a sparse structure where many elements of RF analog precoding matrix are zeros. Using this sparse property, we propose a GTP-based precoder design method for RF and baseband digital precoding. Through simulation, we show that the proposed scheme has more than 85% of the spectral efficiency of the fully-connected structure while having 20~30% of complexity of it.

  • Directional ultrasonic speakers that are used to hear sound only in a specific area have been continuously researched on various improvements in terms of sound quality and cost compared to general speakers. In this paper, we propose a DSP based hybrid-type ultrasonic speaker that can be heard at the same time as a general speaker in order to compensate for the sound in the low-band range, considering that it is difficult to hear the low-band sound below 500 Hz due to the sensor characteristics of the ultrasonic speaker. In the case of the system that is implemented by simply connecting a general speaker and an ultrasonic speaker, there are issues of high cost and difficulties of control as two amplifiers are used to playback ultrasonic and general sound sources. In addition, sound quality deteriorates due to the difference in playback time between ultrasonic and general sound sources. In order to improve issues of cost, control and sound quality, we developed hybrid-type ultrasonic speaker with a DSP based amplifier that can simultaneously playback by synchronizing the general sound source with the regenerated ultrasonic sound source, in addition to implement the existing CODEC functions such as Dynamic Range Control (DRC) and Equalizer (EQ).

A Study on Combustion Characteristics of Hybrid Rocket with the Variation of L/D ratio (하이브리드 로켓의 L/D 비 변화에 따른 연소특성 연구)

  • In this paper, the combustion characteristics of a hybrid propulsion system were studied with various L/D(length vs diameter) ratio of the single port type solid fuel. Experiments of L/D ratio change were performed for 2 cases with the fixed grain port diameter and fuel length respectively. For the First case, results show that there are no large variation for regression rates as the L/D ratio changes. And as the L/D ratio increases, the O/F ratio and thrust tends to increase. For the Second case, there are no large change for O/F ratio and thrust as L/D ratio changes. On the other hand, as the L/D ratio decreases, only the regression rate tends to increase.

  • In this paper, a multi-channel active noise control(ANC) system using subband hybrid control techniques is proposed. Subband techniques could reduce computational burden and improve the performance of ANC systems by dividing several frequency subband and adjusting adaptive filter coefficients. So it can effectively cancel noises at wanted frequency range and use lower order adaptive filter than the existing algorithms. The adjoint LMS algorithm, which prefilter the error signals instead of the divided reference signals in frequency band, is also used for adaptive filter algorithms to reduce the computational burden of the subband adaptive systems. To improve performance of the ANC system, a weighted hybrid control technique, which has weightily properties of feedforward control systems and feedback control systems, is applied. This algorithm shows higher stability and good noise attenuation property in broad band ANC systems. Computer simulations were performed to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

The Increase in Regression Rate due to Helical Grain in Solid Fuel of Hybrid Rocket (나선형 홈에 의한 하이브리드 로켓 고체연료의 연소율 증가 특성)

  • To understand the role of helical geometry on the regression rate enhancement, two competing underlying mechanisms such as turbulence enhancement and swirling motion production were studied by numerical calculations. Experimental results showed that the enhancement of heat transfer rate has the very close relation to the increase in regression rate even though the percentage of increase in heat transfer rate is different from that in regression rate. This discrepancy is presumably due to the change of turbulent flow feature caused by so-called "blowing mass flux" from the fuel surface. In this regard, the results of RANS calculation show that the blowing velocity is responsible for the reduction of the swirl generation and the increase in the turbulent kinetic energy. And the dominancy of one of the mechanisms causes the increase in the regression rate. Meanwhile, the increase in turbulent kinetic energy due to the mixing of blowing flow and free stream flow does not contribute for the enhancement of the heat transfer rate to the surface because the blowing flow pushes boundary layer away from the solid surface.

ZrO2/TiO2/Organosilane Hybrid Composites via Low Temperature Sol-Gel Process for Hard and Transparent Coating (저온 졸-겔 법을 이용한 투명 하드코팅 필름용 ZrO2/TiO2/Organosilane 복합체 연구)

  • In this study, we prepared hybrid composites by using low temperature sol-gel process for transparent and hard coating film. The hybrid composites consist of $ZrO_2/TiO_2/organosilane$, of which organosilane was introduced 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate due to the role of a photocurable ceramic material for low temperature process. The ceramic composites with various composition ratios were coated on a polycarbonate substrate using a sol-gel process of low temperature process, and characterized optical and mechanical properties of coated thin film. The transparencies of coated thin films were 97.5 % or more, and the pencil hardness were 9H or more. In the case of the ZTS-2-1, the nano-indentation hardness was measured at the highest value of 1.14 GPa.
