An Analysis for the Characteristics of Headward Erosion and Separation Zone due to Bed Discordance at Confluence (합류부 하상고 불일치에 의한 두부침식 및 분리구역 특성분석)

  • The pattern of headward erosion at tributary and the separation zone formation in a loosed bed at confluence according to the confluence angle, discharge ratio, and dredging depth ratio have been analyzed. The separation zone is defined the inside of zero velocity boundary at downstream of confluence. The limit of separation zone occurrence is presented with dredging depth ratio. The propagation length of knickpoint increases as the confluence angle, discharge ratio, and dredging depth ratio increase in general and its regression equation has been suggested. The length and width ratios of separation zone in a loosed bed increase as discharge ratio and confluence angle increase as well as in a fixed bed. The length ratio decreases and the width ratio increases as dredging depth ratio increases results in great increase of shape factor and backwater rise by the conveyance reduction at confluence. The regression equation of shape factor with confluence angle, discharge ratio, and dredging depth ratio has been suggested.

  • QUAL2E model was applied to assess the water quality variations due to dredging of the bottom deposit in the downstream of the Nakdong River. A variedflow analysis was performed for the reach of Namji to Nakdong Estuary to estimate the hydraulic parameters. BFGS (Broyden-Fletcher-Goldfarb-Shanno) method was applied to determine the optimum reaction parameters and model verrification was performed based on these. Water quality modeling of dredging effects for BOD and DO in the reach was performed under low and average flow conditions and alternatives. It revealed that dredging had significant effedcts on the improvement of water quality in the reach.

  • Currently, the availability of 3-D topographical survey by combination of GPS and Echo Sounder has been increased in the various field like as the construction of structure, the dredging and the reclamation in the ocean and river, and observation of topographic change in seabed or riverbed. In this case, the error of depth sounding can divide in form that is happened by combination of GPS and Echo Sounder, and form that is happened in Echo Sounder itself, In this study, in the case happen by Echo Sounder itself, analyzed error by specially about geological features of the seabed and riverbed that is specular surface of sound wave and wished to present solution way. The sounding error about the echo sounder and characteristic of estuary riverbed was found by understanding the relation of average diameter and residual error and we defined correction formula, Y=-0.00474$^{*}$In(X) -0.0045 by the regression analysis. and then we verified applicability of correction formula. As the result, if measure Preliminary investigation or pre-survey the geological features for the survey area at topographical survey of estuary riverbed, we presented the error correction formula that estimate and can correct of error by Echo Sounderer.

The Temporal Changes of Channel Section in Naeseongcheon River, Kyeongbuk Province (경북 내성천 하도 단면의 시계열적 변화)

  • The changes and causes of channel section in Naeseongcheon River, a tributary of Nakdong River, during the long(1984~2001) and short(2009~2011) periods are analyzed. There are the declines of channel height with a maximum of approximately 2m in the most areas of the lower reaches during the past 20 years. These are thought as the influences of active aggregate collections and river dredging. The size of sand bar within the channel at the NM1 decreases greatly during the past 2 years. This may results from the decrease of sediment supply due to the Yeongju Dam construction in the upper reaches. However, the NM2 and NL2 where the natural channel are preserved experience the slight increase of height during the past 2 years. Therefore, the anthropogenic channel interferences in Naeseongcheon River have greatly influenced on the declines of channel height by the decrease of sediment supply.

  • Excavation works on stream beds have been done for various reasons including aggregate collection, sediment dredging, bridge constructions, or laying pipes under the ground. These activities may cause significant loadings of SS (suspended solids) resulting in water pollution and other detrimental effects to the surrounding environment. This research investigates application potential of a fickian diffustion model, derived from two dimensional advection-diffusion equation through some simplifying assumptions, as a planning tool for the estimation of SS loadings from excavation works and evaluation fo pollution prevention measures in case that sophisticated numerical simulation models are not applicable due to various practical reasons. Through a case study of the Juncheon stream in the Donghae City on the Kangwondo Province, this study demonstrates applicability of the fickian diffustion model as a practical method for the preliminary estimation of Ss loadings from excavation works and evaluation of performance of fabrics made of synthetic fiber for the reduction of downstream SS concentration with deficient field data.

  • 새만금은 농업용지 확보 등 다양한 용도의 토지이용을 목적으로 방조제 공사를 수행하였으며, 새만금 종합개발계획(Master Plan, OPC, 2011)에 의하여 호내의 준설을 계획하고 있다. 그러나 방조제 준공 후 새만금 호내의 수질오염 문제가 지속적으로 발생되어 왔다. 수질오염의 문제를 해결하기위해서 강변저류지 설치, 하수종말 처리장 등 다양한 구조적 대책이 수립되고 시행되었지만, 수질개선 효과는 상대적으로 미비하였다(Kim et al, 2016; KRCC, 2016). 본 연구에서는 새만금 호내의 수질개선을 위하여, 다양한 배수갑문 운영에 따른 수질인자의 잔존률 및 하상의 변화를 SCHISM-CoSiNE(Semi-implicit Cross-scale Hydroscience Integrated System Model and Carbon, Silicate, Nitrogen Ecosystem model) 모형을 통하여 검토하고자 한다. 수치모형의 하상변동 및 수질변화에 대한 정확한 수치계산 여부를 판단하기 위하여 van Rijn(1987) 실험 및 새만금호내의 수질 관측자료(DO, T-N, T-P, 온도, 염도, 새만금유역 통합환경관리시스템)를 이용하여 수치모형 검증을 수행하였고 10% 이내의 오차를 나타내었다. 배수갑문 운영기록(Jeong et al., 2018)을 참조하여 배수갑문 운영을 재현하였으며, 지형은 기 수립된 MP 내 새만금 종합개발계획이 완료된 시점인 2030년을 기준으로 하였다. 수치모의를 통하여, 배수갑문 운영 및 계절의 변화에 따른 최심 하상변동고 변화 및 하상변동량을 확인하여 침식 퇴적 구간을 구분하였고, 호내의 잔존하는 수질인자의 농도를 통하여 수질개선 효과를 평가하여 수질측면에서 최적의 배수갑문 운영방안을 제시하였다. 본 연구는 배수갑문 운영이 새만금 호내의 수질 및 지형에 미치는 영향에 대한 기초적인 연구이지만 향후에는 다양한 수질인자 및 시나리오를 고려한다면 보다 근본적인 수질오염 해결방안으로 활용이 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

The Influence of Sediment Control Dam Dredging on Benthic Macroinvertebrate Communities of Mountain Stream (사방댐 준설이 저서성 대형무척추동물 군집에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted for determining the influence of Sediment Control Dam dredging on benthic macroinvertebrate communities in mountain stream of Gyeongsangbuk-do. The sediment control dams were surveyed before and after dredging from mountain streams of Yecheon, Yeongju and Bonghwa in Northern part of Gyeongsangbuk-do. Sampling was taken at upper and down from 3 experimental sites and 2 control sites during May to August 2011. The identified species before dredging were 56 belonged to 31 families, 11 orders, 6 classes and 4 phyla, but after dredging it has decreased to 51 species belonged to 27 families, 10 orders, 5 classes and 4 phyla. The microhabitat damage of benthic macroinvertebrates occurred at experimental sites after dredging of sediment control dams led to reduction of the number of species and individuals. Especially, upper stream of experimental sites showed the reduction of an average of 38% species. In general, species diversity indices and species richness indices decreased after dredging; however, dominance indices increased at experimental sites. In the upper stream of experimental sites, the microhabitat damaged and became pool due to dredging. Also, velocity of flow decreased and the river bed became simply due to the sedimentary matter being finer than sand and silt. As a result, composition of functional feeding groups and functional feeding groups were relatively simpler at upper stream and the degree of community differences was greater between upper and down stream. Also, Chironomidae spp., Ephemeridae spp., and Gomphidae spp. to prefer where slow velocity of flow and lentic increased in a greater rate, and the EPT/C index to indicate the balance of the community decreased.

Analysis on the sediment sluicing efficiency by variation of operation water surface elevation at flood season (홍수기 운영수위 변화에 따른 배사 효율 분석)

  • In general, efficient operation of sediment sluicing is important in economical aspect. In this study, the efficiency of sediment sluicing by various operation at water surface elevation on multi-functional weirs were analyzed using Nays2DH, and we focused on the Dalsung weir at Nakdong river. The results of this study shows that, the same number of flushing channels and water gates were developed due to sediment sluicing, and sediment deposition occurred in upstream region of flushing channels. Also, the sediment sluicing efficiency increased by approximately 4.6% and sedimentation decreased by approximately 4.5% at EL. 14.5 m for operations on water surface elevation exceeding EL. 14.0 m. The mitigation of reservoir sedimentation and extension of maintenance dredging period are possible if the variation of sediment sluicing efficiency in various operation at water surface elevation during flood season are considered.

A Study on the Electrokinetic Acceleration of Clayey Particles Settling in Suspension (동전기에 의한 점토슬러리의 침강 촉진에 관한 연구)

  • The river maintenance processing has revealed that the river beds in Korea have been significantly polluted in various ways for the last two decades. Thus, the dredging, transportation and landfilling of these contaminated materials are attracting public attention these days. In this study, electrokinetic method was applied in order to accelerate the settling processes of clay particles in suspension and evaluate the factors affecting the settling behaviour. It has been found from the testing results that the settling velocity under the influence of electrokinetics was much faster than the gravitational one, and the water content of slurry soil reduced significantly after the electrokinetic processing. The initial water content of slurry soil should be one of the important factors affecting the settling behaviour as well as variation of water content, and hence the electrokinetic processing would be the cost-effective method for the field application.

Study on physical habitat suitability of Gobiobotia naktongensis in Naeseong Stream according to change of bed grain size (내성천 하상 입경 변화에 따른 흰수마자의 물리 서식 적합도 분석)

  • The Gobiobotia naktongensis is a species endemic to Korea, and it has recently been designated as a class I endangered species of freshwater fish. Naeseong Stream, one of the tributaries of the Nakdong River, where the Gobiobotia naktongensis was first discovered, provided an optimal habitat for the Gobiobotia naktongensis in the past with fine sand beds and riffle. Currently, due to the construction of Yeongju Dam and the excessive dredging of river channels by the local government, the riverbed armoring in the downstream area of the dam is undergoing rapid changes, and as a result, the habitat environment of the Gobiobotia naktongensis is deteriorating. In this study, the variations of the habitat suitability of the Gobiobotia naktongensis due to the change in the riverbed grain size of the Naeseong Stream were analyzed based on the WUA (weight usable area) using the physical habitat model, River2D. The study domain is the reach from Seoktap Bridge to Hoeryong Bridge downstream of Yeongju Dam. The change in riverbed grain size was analyzed using D50 acquired in 2010 and 2020, respectively. The substrate grain size of Naeseong Stream in 2020 was thicker than that in 2010, and the riverbed coarsening phenomenon was evident overall. As a result of the River2D analysis, the area in which the Gobiobotia naktongensis could inhabit was only about 0.75% in 2010 compared to the entire area of the flow, and even this decreased to 0.55% in 2020 due to riverbed armoring.
