  • To understand the thermal characteristics around the piston ring gap ring gap positions and piston temperatures are measured simultaneously. The locations of piston ring gap are measured by the radio-tracer method and piston temperature are measured by a K-type thermocouple and scissors type linkage system. From these experiments following facts are clarified. Piston temperatures fluctuate according to the piston ring rotation. And the temperature fluctuation is mainly affected by top ring gap position irrelevant to the second ring fop position. If the top ring gap position increases and the temperature of top ring groove shows maximum value when top rin gap position coincide with temperature measuring point. The maximum amplitude of temperature fluctuation which is proportional to the blow by gas rate is around 12-15$^{\circ}C$.

LPGdusfy 엔진의 피스톤온도 및 카본디포짓 형성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Piston Temperatures and Carbon Deposit Formation in LPG Fuelled Engine)

  • The wide open throttle performance and piston temperatures were measured by the change of fuel : gasoline and liquefied petroleum gas(LPG). Bench test method was developed and experimented to study the effect of temperature on the formation of carbon deposit. The bench test results were confirmed by measuring the piston temperature and observing the deposit production rate at an actual engine running condition. Results show that if the fuel of spark ignition engine is changed from gasoline to LPG, the output power decreases about 10% and the piston temperatures increase about 40~55$^{\circ}C$. In actual engine tests, because of this temperature increase, it was observed that the quantity of carbon deposit in the top ring groove increased in a big degree. Consuquently, it is known that the fing sticking may occur if the gasoline engine was rebuilt to LPG fuelled engine. Therefore, in order to preserve the durability of LPG fuelled engine, it is necessary to lower the piston temperature by hardware modificationor to reduce the carbon deposit by the improvement of engine oil.

피스톤 링 실 끝단을 갖는 스퀴즈 필름 댐퍼의 감쇠 계수 측정 (Measurement of Damping Coefficients of a Squeeze Film Damper with Piston Ring Seal Ends)

  • This study experimentally identifies the effects of end shape, clearance, total damper length, journal eccentricity ratio, oil supply pressure, and oil flow rate on the damping coefficient of a squeeze film damper (SFD) with piston ring seal ends and a central groove. The SFD is composed of a lubricating fluid flowing between the outer race of a rolling element bearing and cartridge, along with an anti-rotation pin to prevent the rotation of the outer race. The device provides additional viscous damping to a rotating system. Additionally, piston ring seals attached at both ends of the damper increase the damping coefficient of the rotating system by reducing oil leakage. Because these different design conditions affect the damping coefficient of an SFD, we perform experiments including different conditions. Tests show that the damping coefficient increases significantly in the SFD with piston ring seal ends compared with the SFD with open ends. The damping coefficient also increases with increasing total damper length and journal eccentricity ratio, and decreases with increasing clearance. Additionally, in contrast to the trend observed for the SFD with open ends, the damping coefficient for the SFD with piston ring seal ends increases with increasing supply pressure and flow rate as the frequency decreases but shows consistent results as the frequency increases.

  • 최근 자동차 성능 및 연비향상을 위해서 엔진의 고출력화 및 소형화 경향이 뚜렷해지고 있으며, 이로 인해 엔진내부의 부품이 받는 환경은 더욱 가혹해 지고 있다. 즉, 자동차 엔진 구동부품은 금속간의 접촉가능성이 매우 높은 경계윤활조건에 놓이게 되며, 또한 배기가스 규제로 인한 첨가제를 최소화 하려는 경향에 따라 경계윤활 환경에서 더욱 심한 마모문제에 직면할 것으로 예상되어 내구성 및 내마모성이 높은 코팅기술에 대한 요구가 더욱 증가하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 Zr기지의 비정질 형성능을 갖는 합금계를 이용하여 아르곤 및 질소분위기에서 스퍼터링 함으로써 고경도의 ZrN상과 엔진오일과 반응하여 저마찰 트라이보 필름을 형성시킬 수 있는 금소계 원소가 Tissue phase로 존재하는 질화물 나노박막합성기술을 개발한 후 자동차 구동부품인 벨브트레인계 및 피스톤링/라이너 부품에 적용하여 마찰특성을 평가하였다.

피스톤 링에서의 오일 부족 윤활에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Starved Lubrication for the Piston Ring)

  • This paper reports on the starved lubrication for the piston ring. In this analysis, two types of inlet boundary conditions, fully flooded and starved condition, are considered at the leading edge. The inlet position of effective lubrication and squeeze term are obtained by numerically iterative method. The effective lubricated region is reduced due to the starved condition at the inlet. The starved condition at the inlet significantly reduced the minimum oil film thickness(MOFT) at the midstroke of piston, and the friction force is also increased due to the thin oil film thickness. In the starved conditions, the power loss is significantly increased.

양산점토의 비배수 전단강도 특성 (Characteristics of Undrained Shear Strength of Yangsan Clay)

  • 실내시험으로 구한 점토의 공학적 성질은 샘플링, 운반, 저장, 그리고 성형과정 동안에 발생하는 시료의 교란으로 인해 원지반의 성질과 다르게 측정된다. 본 연구에서는 양산점토에 대한 삼축압축시험($CK_{o}$ UC) 결과를 이용하여 샘플링 방법에 따른 교란의 정도를 평가하였다. 실험에 사용된 시료는 76mm 튜브샘플러, 76mm 피스톤샘플러, 블록샘플러로 채취되었으며, 시료의 교란정도를 평가하기 위해 각 시료에서 측정된 체적변형률, 비배수 전단강도, Secant Youngs modulus, 그리고 파괴시 간극수압계수를 비교하였다. 시료의 교란정도를 평가하는 것 이외에도 SHANSEP 방법을 이용하여 수행한 $CK_{o}$ U 삼축압축시험 결과를 이용하여 양산점토에 대한 정규화 전단강도($C_{u}$ /$\sigma$$_{vc}$ )와 OCR 관계를 규명하였다. 또, 피에조콘 관입시험, 딜라토메타 시험, 그리고 현장 베인시험결과를 이용하여 구한 양산점토의 비배수 전단강도를 삼축압축시험 결과와 비교하였다.

체질 진단의 객관화를 위한 O-Ring 경근 계측시스템의 개발 (Development of O-Ring Measurement Systems of Muscular Meridians for objectification of Constitutional Diagnosis)

  • 본 논문에서는 객관적이고 신뢰성있는 체질 식별을 위한 수단으로 기존의 O-링 테스트법의 단점을 보완한 O-링 경근력 계측시스템을 설계하여 임상에 적용하였다. 의사나 체질 식별 시술자의 손으로 행하던 O-Ring 측정을 공압 펌프와 액츄에이터를 이용하여 마이크로 컴퓨터로 제어함으로써 압력을 받은 실린더와 피스톤을 확장하게하여 고리모양으로 만든 피측정자의 손가락을 확장시키도록 설계하였다. 기존의 재래식 측정법이 단순히 측정자가 느끼는 주관적인 감각과 경험으로 피측정자의 경근력을 판단하므로 객관성이 결여되고 미세한 경근력의 변화는 판정이 불가능하였으나 O-링 경근력 계측시스템을 사용한 측정법은 미세한 경근력의 변화를 측정함은 물론 손가락의 확장거리 및 측정 시간까지 계측함으로써 경근력 변화를 판단하는 파라메터가 다양하고 신뢰성을 유지하게 하였다. 임상 실험 결과 O-링 경근력 계측시스템이 기존의 체질 진단법의 단점을 보완하고 보다 객관성있는 체질 진단의 가능성을 증가시키는 것으로 확인되었다. 차후 O-링 경근력 계측 시스템을 PC와 인터페이스시켜 측정된 임상 자료를 데이타베이스화 함으로써 많은 임상 자료를 기반으로 컴퓨터에서 전문가 시스템을 구축하여 체질 진단에 대한 보다 객관적이고 신뢰성이 높은 자동 진단 시스템으로 발전시키면 한의학적인 질변진단 분야에 기여할 수 있을것이다.

EGR시스템 디젤기관의 실린더 및 피스톤 마모에 미치는 재순환 배기의 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Influences of Recirculated Exhaust Gas upon Wear of Cylinder and Piston in Diesel Engines with EGR System)

  • The effects of recirculated exhaust gas on the wear of cylinder liner piston and piston rings have been investigated by the experiment with a two-cylinder four cycle indirect injection diesel engine operating at 75% load and 1600 rpm speed For the purpose of comparison between the rates of two cylinders with and without EGR the recirculated exhaust gas is sucked into one of two cylinders after the soot among exhaust emissions is removed by an intntionally designed cylinder-type scrubber equipped with 6 water injectors(A water injector has 144 nozzles of 1.0 mm diame-ter) while only the fresh air into another cylinder. These experiments are carried out on the fuel injection at a fixed $15.3^{\circ}$ BTDC timing. It is found that firstly the mean wear amount of cylinder liner with EGR is more increased in the measurement positions of the second half than of the first half and the mean wear amount without EGR is almost uniform regardless of measurement posi-tions secondly the wear rates of the first and second piston ring(compression ring)thickness with EGR are more than twice but the wear rate of oil ring thickness without EGR is more increased than that with EGR and finally the wear rate of piston skirt with EGR is a little bit increased but the piston hed diameter is rather increased owing to soot adhesion and corrosion wear and espe-cially larger with EGR.

자체 윤활 피스톤 씨일 링의 가스 누출과 마찰에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Gas Leakage and Friction of the Self-lubricating Piston Seal Rings)

  • Present study was undertaken to investigate the leakage and friction of self-lubricating piston seal rings. A crank-piston type gas leakage test set-up was constructed. The piston rings were made of PTFE-polyimide composite. The free gap configurations of the seal rings were butt and step types. Eccentric tension rings were used to give the seal rings prepressure between the seal rings and cylinder wall. Two sizes of the tension rings were installed to investigate their effect on the gas leakage and friction of the seal rings. The results showed that step type seal rings are superior than the butt types. High tension spring rings resulted in low leakage and high friction loss. In order to reduce the gas leakage and friction loss of the piston seal rings, there should be compromise between the number of ring stages and prepressure of the tension rings.

피스톤 압축 링 재료의 지르코니아 순도에 따른 트라이볼로지 특성 (Tribological Characteristics with Purity Zirconia of Compression Ring Materials in Piston)

  • The friction and wear properties of ceramics are very important in the applications to engineering ceramic parts such as seal rings, pump parts, automobile meter parts, and so on. In this study, the effects of each other purity on the mechanical and tribological properties of purity zirconia ceramics were investigated. Also in order to determine the effects of sliding distance, sliding speed, contact load, friction coefficient, the amount of worn out material at a certain time, and the prepared composites were measured. Crystalline phases and microstructure were examined with XRD and SEM. The results show that we obtained the good properties of friction coefficient and wear resistance at the purity 99.5% of zirconia. than this of the purity 95% were great at the wear amount of worn out material.
