  • Vegetative land cover is an important variable many Earth system process, general circulation and carbon exchange model requires vegetative cover as boundary layer necessary to run model. The purpose of this study is to detect and to understand land surface change. To monitor changes of East Asia vegetation, we used NDVI 10-day MVC data derived from SPOT VEGETATION during 12 years from 1999 to 2010. Finally, according to the land cover of classified class, we performed analysis for dynamic zone(positive change zone and negative change zone), static zone in 1999, 2010. Therefore, land covers corresponding to each class have appeared change by 2010. Land cover change was confirmed by analyzing data during 12 years which appeared vegetation change of surrounding the actual desert area to east.

  • In this paper, we propose a system to detect spatial structures in land cover maps and to detect time-series spatial structure changes. At first, the proposed system detects patches in a certain area at different times and calculates their measures to analyse spatial structure patterns of the area. Then the system conducts patch mapping among the detected time-series patches and decides 6 types of patch changes such as keeping, creating, disappearing, splitting, merging, and changing in a mixed way. Also, the system stores the patch-based spatial structure patterns of time-series land cover maps in binary form to extract changes. This demonstrated that the proposed change detection system can be used as a basis for planning the reconstruction of the urban spatial structure by measuring the degree of urban sprawl.

  • We evaluated the land cover classification performance of SegNet, which features semantic segmentation of aerial imagery. We selected four semantic classes, i.e., urban, farmland, forest, and water areas, and created 2,000 datasets using aerial images and land cover maps. The datasets were divided at a 8:2 ratio into training (1,600) and validation datasets (400); we evaluated validation accuracy after tuning the hyperparameters. SegNet performance was optimal at a batch size of five with 100,000 iterations. When 200 test datasets were subjected to semantic segmentation using the trained SegNet model, the accuracies were farmland 87.89%, forest 87.18%, water 83.66%, and urban regions 82.67%; the overall accuracy was 85.48%. Thus, deep learning-based semantic segmentation can be used to classify land cover.

  • This study estimates how soil loss in a basin has been occurred according to the change of land cover, and analyzes which type of land cover has the largest soil loss by classifying the land-cover type into each area and a whole basin. Musimcheon, the second branch stream of GeumGang, is chosen as a research area. The result of analysis shows that the average soil loss occurs most largely in a crop land and a paddy field. The yearly soil loss of watershed estimates approximately 14,000 ton/yr in case of using 100-year-frequency rainfall data. A forest area, which takes the largest area in watershed, shows the soil loss occurs approximately 1,000ton/yr. A crop field shows that soil loss increased most largely 4,900 ton/yr (34.6%) in 1985 to 8,100 ton/yr (56.1%) in 2000. The change of land cover in a crop land increased 8% to 14%, and this change influences on the increase of soil loss. As a result of analyzing the area over $200ton/km^2/yr$, the soil loss in a crop field accounts for 74% to 96%.

  • To provide technological foundation for periodic and real-time land monitoring over the Korean peninsula where the land cover changes are prevailing, the Land Monitoring Research project was initiated as one of five core projects within the Intelligent National Land Information Technology Innovation Project operated by the Korean Land Spatialization Group (KLSG). This four year project can be categorized into two research themes with nine sub-projects. The first research theme is dealing with the real-time data acquisition from aerial platform and in-situ measurements by ubiquitous sensor network (USN), ground video camera, and automobile-based data collection systems. The second research theme is mainly focused on the development of application systems that can be directly utilized in several public organizations dealing with land monitoring over the nation. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS)-based land monitoring system that is currently under development is one of such application systems designed to provide necessary information regarding the status and condition of land cover in near real-time.

  • The current disinfection method of vehicles being applied in South Korea has various shortcomings. So, the epidemic has generated continuously at livestock farms. It is very important to develop an effective disinfection system for reduction of the epidemic. And various basic data is required for this development. Therefore, this study was performed to identify the nozzle type and proper discharge pressure of sprayers. The experiment was conducted from January 10, 2012 until February 28, 2012. All the performance measurement experiments were repeated five times. The subjects of experiment were the A, B and C company's products. The sprayed capacity, angle of spray and the covering area ratio were measured for each product. As a result, the sprayed capacity, angle of spray and the covering area ratio were increased as the discharge pressure of the sprayer was increased. In conclusion, the conical shaped of the nozzle is considered more appropriate than V-shaped, and the proper discharge pressure is expected to be at least 20kg/㎠.
