Fatigue Life Evaluation for Used Rail on Track Types (궤도형식별 사용레일의 피로수명 평가)

  • In this study, fatigue testing was carried out for long-term use of rail according to track type. From S-N curves for 50%~0.01% failure probability, the fatigue life of the long-term use rail for each track type was derived using the weight probability analysis technique on the experimental data. Because the rails used in the fatigue test have different cumulative tonnages, the number of repetitions was modified by averaging the cumulative tonnage. In addition, the bending stresses of rail bottoms, considering rail surface irregularities, track support stiffnesses and train speeds, were evaluated using the predicted rail bending stresses derived from existing studies. As a result, for rail fatigue life evaluation, the fatigue life of rail on the ballast track was found to be more than 200 million tons higher than the standard value for rail replacement. Also, the fatigue life of rail on concrete track is more than 300 million tons higher than that on ballast track. The Haibach rule is adaptable for the fatigue life evaluation of rail for stress range under fatigue limit.

  • A fatigue test was used to evaluate the fatigue life of an actual structure. The loaded state and the constraint condition of an actual structure must be same as the specimen in order to apply the test results to an actual structure by the specimen. The loaded state and constraint conditions can't be same as the specimen in the actual structure which is complicated. In order to reduce these differences, an actual structure test with a lot of frequencies is need to get a fatigue life curve. Therefore, ten sets of accelerated test units which attached unbalanced mass were composed in this study. Acceleration history about the vibration of an actual structure was acquired. Rainflow counting was used on acceleration history, and the life curve return formula was assumed. The return formula that damage satisfied `1' was acquired in a feedback process by the Miner's rule, which was the linear cumulative damage theory. A conservative fatigue life curve was determined with a return formula to have been presumed by each set. The fatigue life of regular rpm condition was calculated by these conservative fatigue life curves.

  • The membrane type LNG tank is non self-supporting tank which consists of both primary and secondary membrane supported through the insulation boxes by the adjacent hull struc¬ture. Although the membranes are not structural member. They are subject to periodical cyclic loads due to the thermal expansion and other expansions or contraction of membrane. At the design stage of the tank, an analytical and experimental approach on the fatigue strengths of membrane and its welds is necessary in order to assist the designer and the inpector. In this study the evaluation method of fatigue strength of membrane type LNG tank is pre¬sented with FEM analysis and fatigue test of lap welds and it contains the following:1) The fatigue tests and preparation of design S - N curve for lap welds 2) FEM analysis of test specimens 3) Estimation of cumulative damage factor of lap welds 4) Guideline for inspection of lap welds of membrane type LNG tank As the results of analytical and experimental approaches in this study, the evaluation method of fatigue strengths of membrane type LNG tank is proposed, which is expected to be useful for design and inspection of membrane type LNG tank.

  • 농산물 포장화물의 경우 농산물의 손상은 겉포장 상자의 파손에 의한 압상이 주요 원인이다. 따라서 농산물 상자의 경우 압축강도를 특히 중요시 여기고 있으며, 한국산업규격을 비롯해 각종 농산물 관련 규정에서는 압축강도에 의한 상자의 품질관리를 규정화 하고 있다. 골판지 상자의 압축강도는 원단인 골판지의 구성 원지들(라이너, 골심지)의 품질과 이들의 구성 형태 및 상자의 외형 치수 비율에 따라 결정되므로, 원지의 링크라쉬(ring crush), 원단의 수직압축강도(edgewise compression strength)를 통해 상자의 압출강도를 관리하는 것이 보통이다. 또한 골판지 상자는 제작 후 유통 과정을 거치면서, 여러 요인에 의해 압축강도가 현격하게 저하되는데, 이중 수분 흡습에 의한 강도저하와 장기 누적하중, 진동 및 충격 등의 피로로 인한 강도 저하가 가장 크다. 여러 산업 분야에서 골판지 상자의 견고성 문제는 물품의 내수 및 수출시 제품에 대한 신뢰성 확보와 기업의 이미지 제고와 직결되는 중요한 사항이다. 특히, 세계 각 국의 농산물 시장이 개방됨에 따라 우리나라 농산물의 수출도 확대될 전망이고 또한 마땅한 대체재가 개발되지 않는 한 골판지 상자의 이용은 날로 증가될 것으로 전망된다. 따라서 골판지 상자의 압축강도와 내구성 향상에 대한 다각적인 연구가 절실하다.   • The design of major industrial facilities for the prevention of fatigue failure is customarily done by defining a set of transients and performing a calculation of cumulative usage factor. However, sometimes, the inherent conservatism or lack of details as well as unanticipated transients in old plant may cause maintenance problems. Even though several famous on-line monitoring and diagnosis systems have been developed world-widely, in this paper, a new system fur fatigue monitoring and life evaluation of crane is proposed to reduce customizing effort and purchasing cost. With regard to the system, at first, comprehensive operating transient data has been acquired at critical locations of crane. The real-time data were classified, by using adaptive resonance theory that is one of typical artificial neural network, into representative stress groups. Then the each classified stress pattern was mapped to calculated cumulative usage factor in accordance with ASME procedure. Thereby, promising results were obtained fur the crane and it is believed that the developed system can be applicable to other major facilities extensively.

Statistical Life Prediction of Fatigue Crack Growth for SiC Whisker Reinforced Aluminium Composite (SiC 휘스커 보강 Al6061 복합재료의 통계학적 피로균열진전 수명예측)

  • In this study, statistical analysis of fatigue data which had obtained from respective 24 fatigue crack, was examined for SiC whisker reinforced aluminium 6061 composite alloy (SiC$_{w}$/A16061) and aluminium 6061 alloy. SiC volume fraction in composite alloy is 25%. The analysis results stress intensity factor range and 0.1 mm fatigue crack initiation life for SiC$_{w}$/A16061 composite & A16061 matrix are the log-normal distribution. And regression analysis by linear model, exponential model and multiplicative model were performed to find out the relationship between fatigue crack growth rate(da/dN) and stress intensity for find out the relationship between fatigue crack growth rate(da/dN) and stress intensity factor range(.DELTA.K) in the SiC$_{w}$/A16061 composite and examine the applicability of Paris' equation to SiC$_{w}$A16061 composite. Also computer simulation was performed for fatigue life prediction of SiC$_{w}$/A16061 composite using the statistical results of this study.udy.

Fatigue Properties of Rail Steel Under Constant Amplitude Loading and Variable Amplitude Loading (일정 및 변동하중하의 레일강의 피로특성)

  • In this study, fatigue growth behavior of the transverse crack, which was the most dangerous damage among the various types of rail defects, was investigated using the notched keyhole specimen under constant amplitude loadings. Fatigue limit of smooth specimen in rail steel at R=0 was 110MPa, and the fatigue crack initiation life in the region of the low stress amplitude (ie. long life) occupied the major portion of the total fatigue life. The fatigue strength under variable amplitude loading was converted to the equivalent fatigue strength based upon. Miners rule, which was estimated approximately 9% lower than that under constant amplitude loading. Also, in the low ΔK(sub)rms region ($\leq$21MPa√m), fatigue crack growth rate (da/dN) under constant amplitude loading was higher than that under variable amplitude loading, whereas the tendency was reversed in the high ΔK(sub)rms region. It is believed that this behavior is due to the transition of fracture appearance.

A Study on the Prediction of Fatigue Life by use of Probability Density Function (확률밀도함수를 이용한 피로균열 발생수명 예측에 관한 연구)

  • The estimation of fatigue life at the design stage is very important in order to arrive at feasible and cost effective solutions considering the total lifetime of the structure and machinery compo-nents. In this study the practical procedure of prediction of fatigue life by use of cumulative damage factors based on Miner-Palmgren hypothesis and probability density function is shown with a $135,000m^3$ LNG tank being used as an example. In particular the parameters of Weibull distribution taht determine the stress spectrum are dis-cussed. At the end some of uncertainties associated with fatigue life prediction are discussed. The main results obtained from this study are as follows: 1. The practical procedure of prediction of fatigue life by use of cumulative damage factors expressed in combination of probability density function and S-N data is proposed. 2. The calculated fatigue life is influenced by the shape parameter and stress block. The conser-vative fatigue design can be achieved when using higher value of shape parameter and the stress blocks divded into more stress blocks.

한국 여성의 생리학적 작업능력(PWC)에 관한 연구

  • 인간공학을 적용하는데 있어 가장 기본적으로 다루어져야 할 것은 인간의 신체적, 심리적능력에 관한 연구이다. 특히 산업 현장에서 흔히 이루어지는 인간의 힘을 그 동력원으로 하는 수작업의 경우에 있어 서는 작업자가 직업적인 요인에 의해 피로가 누적되거나 신체적인 무리를 가져오지 않고 수행할 수 있는 안전한 작업기준의 설정이 필요하며 이를 위해서는 인간의 신체적 능격에관한 연구가 필수적이다. 특히 최근 들어 여성의 사회진출 기회가 다양해지고 있으며 많은 여성들이 육체적 노동을 필요로 하는 직업에 종사하고 있는 현실에서 한국여성들의 신체적 능력에 관한 자료가 절대적으로 부족한 상황이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 현재 한국의 여성들이 활동하고 육체적 작업조건들이 적절하게 설정되어 있는지를 분석하기 위한 기초 자료로서 한국 여성들의 생리학적 작업능력(PWC:physiological work capacity)을 최대산소소모 능력(Maximal Oxygen Consumption: V0$_{2}$Max)의 관점에서 파악하고자 하였다. 또한 외국 여성의 생리 학적 작업능력과 한구 여성의 생리학적 작업능력을 비교 평가하여한국 여성에게 외국여성의 기준치를 적용 시키는 것이 적절한지를 분석해 보았다. 본 연구는 피실험자에게 위험부담을 주지 않는 Submaximal test의 연속적인 방법(continuous mathod)중 하나인 램프 테스트(Ramp test)를 사용하여 심박수(H.R)와 산소 소모 량(V0$_{2}$) 측정하여 최대심박수에서의 PWC를 추정하였다. 작업 부하는 자전거 에르고노미터와 트레드 밀을 사용하여부과하였다. 실험 결과로서 자전거 에르고미터의 경우 치대산소 소모량의 추정치 평균이 1818.79ml/min으로 나타 났고 트레드밀의 경우 2076.33ml/min으로 나타났다. 이 결과는 자전거 에르고 노미터의 결과는 자전거 에르고노미터의 결과가 트레드밀의 결과에 87.60%정도 나타났다.

Micro-Surface-Cracks Behavior of 304 Stainless Steel Under Creep-Fatigue Interaction at Elevated Temperature (고온하 304 스테인리스강의 크리프-피로상호작용하의 미소표면균열에 관한 파괴거동)

  • This paper deals with the micro-surface-cracks behavior on the unnotched smooth specimens of Type 304 stainless steel at $593^{\circ}C$ in air under creep and creep-fatigue conditions that have 10 mim and 1 min load holding times respectively. The behaviors of the micro-surface-cracks have been visualized by means of surface replica method and optical micro-photography. The quantitative characteristics of initiation, growth and coalescence of micro-surface-cracks have been investigated by observing and measuring the crack growth behaviors. some of the important results are as follows: Main crack initiates at grain boundary in the early stage(10 to 20%)of its life time and grows through coalescence and finally leads to fracture. The distribution of micro-surface-crack length, 2a, can be plotted against the composite Weibull distribution. The growth rate of the main crack can be plotted against the stress intensity factor, crack tip opering displacement and J integral.
