Fatigue Crack Growth Behavior of a Continuous Alumina Fiber Reinforced Metal Matrix Composite Materials (알루미나 장섬유 강화 복합금속재의 피로균열성장거동)

  • The effects of heat treatment on fatigue crack growth behavior were studied in continuously reinfored, magnesium-based composite (FP/ZE41A). Following an earlier TEM investigation, specimens were thermally aged to modify the interfacial zone between the alumina fibers and mg alloy matrix. The fatigue crack growth experiments were conducted with specimens having the fiber orientation normal to the crack growth direction(longitudinal) and also specimens with the fibers oriented parallel to the crack growth direction(transverse). A comparision of the fatigue crack growth behavior indicates that aged longitudinal specimens are more resistant to fatigue crack growth than as-fabricated longitudinal specimens. Conversely, as-fabricated transverse specimens are more resistant to fatigue crack growth than aged transverse specimens. SEM observations of fiber pullout and ductile tearing on the fatigue fracture surfaces indicate that the aging weakens the strength of the fiber/matrix interface, giving rise to the observed fatigue crack growth behavior.

An Analysis on the Factors Affecting the Citation in Korean Material Science Articles (한국 재료공학 논문의 피인용 영향요인에 관한 연구)

  • This study pointed the factors affecting the number of articles and citations in material science which is the most active publishing disciplinary in South Korea. This was conducted by gathering the information on SCIE which had been published by 449 Korean professors in material science from 2006 to 2010. One of the results was that the professors who had published more papers received more citations than those who did not, reconfirming former studies abroad. It was observed that the factors majors impacting on the number of papers may be their academic positions, educational backgrounds (particularly undergraduates), and places of work. The number of citations was affected by the authors' undergraduate and their locations of the work. This study suggested a need for more supports on basic researches by universities and funding bodies and an amendment of performance measures to include the number of citations.

Discrimination of Echinochloa colona (L.) Link from other Echinochloa Species using DNA Barcode (국내에 유입되는 열대피(Echinochloa colona) 동정: DNA 바코드 중심)

  • Echinochloa colona is one of the most problematic weeds in the paddy fields of the world. In recent years, this species is likely to be introduced in Korea due to global warming, the expansion of international trade including agricultural products, and increasing tourists. We tried to identify the species from Korean Echinochloa crus-galli and E. oryzicola in order to establish the control measures in case of the initial influx. For this study, Echinochloa colona collected from the National Plant Germplasm System, USA were examined and E. crus-galli and E. oryzicola were collected in Korea. It is, however, very difficult to identify for Echinochloa species using morphological characters because of numerous interspecific and intraspecific types found in nature. Thus, we barcoded the species using rbcL, matK, and ITS. All three markers identified E. colona very well from the others. ITS alone may be enough as a DNA barcode for E. colona identification, when considering cost and effectiveness. The barcode sequences were deposited to the National Center for Biotechnology Information database for public use.

Effects of Aromatherapy Footbath on Stress and Autonomic Nervous System Activity (아로마테라피 족욕이 스트레스와 자율신경계 활성도에 미치는 효과)

  • Background: A quasi-experimental study with non-equivalent control groups was performed to determine an effect of aromatherapy foot bath on stress and autonomic nervous activity. Methods: To confirm the effect of aromatherapy foot bath, aromatherapy foot bath group was asked to have a bathing by dropping 0.5 cc in 18 L water after blending with a ratio of 6:3:1 with essential oil lavender, lemon, and tea tree and a foot bath group was asked for bathing only by water. Results: Aromatherapy foot bath group showed significant decrease in subjective stress score (t=3.465, p=0.001) and stress index (t=3.021, p=0.004) in addition to simultaneous increase in sympathetic nervous activity (t=-2.913, p=0.005). However, no significant stimulation of parasympathetic nervous system was observed (t=-1.831, p=0.072). Conclusions: As aromatherapy foot bath is a possible effective intervention for stress relief, it can be applied as an effective method to relieve the stress for healthy adults and patients.

A Study on the Health Effects of Adolescents Using Aromatherapy : Focusing on High School Girls Pain (아로마테라피를 활용한 청소년의 건강 효과 연구 : 여고생의 생리통을 중심으로)

  • This study examined the perception of menstrual pain and dysmenorrhea through aromatherapy as a post - school program for high school girls. The after-school program proceeded for 2 hours per week for 10 weeks, of which aromatherapy was performed for 1 hour per body part. Thereafter, the participants were experimented to determine the pre - post - perception of the group of girls who did not perform aromatherapy as a control group and as a control group. Based on the results of this study, the following conclusions were obtained. First, aromatherapy was found to be a direct help to relieve menstrual pain in high school girls. Second, Aromatherapy was found to be able to help mental change in the menstrual cramps of high school girls. Third, Aromatherapy did not help the physical change of high school girls. In this regard, aromatherapy is a program that helps to relieve menstrual cramps in high school girls and can be considered a program that can be fully recommended for students with severe menstrual cramps.

Effect of aromatherapy planned behavior on behavioral intention (아로마테라피 계획행동이 행동의도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of aromatherapy planned behavior on behavioral intention using the theory of planned behavior of attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control as factors of the theory of planned behavior. The behavioral intention of aromatherapy planned behavior was analyzed to have a significant positive causal relationship between the independent variables of attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control on the behavioral intention of aromatherapy. As a result of testing Hypothesis 1, "Aromatherapy planned behavior will have an effect on behavioral intention," previous research confirmed that the greater the attitude, perceived behavioral control, and subjective norm during aromatherapy planned behavior, the higher the participation intention. The verification was consistent with similar results between this study and this study. These results suggest that aromatherapy planned behavior will contribute to increasing aromatherapy's market share, reducing stress, and improving health through behavioral intention.

고압 산소챔버를 활용한 피부표피 반응 사례 연구

  • 본 연구에서는 고압산소치료 후 포유동물의 피부에서 Melanin 세포의 생성이 줄어들었음을 이미 보고된 바 있고, 치료 후 전층 피부이식 생존율을 높였고, 또한 인체의 피부 진피층 확인은 더 많은 임상데이터가 필요하나 고압산소치료 후 표피면의 변화는 빠른 시간에 확인 할 수 있다고 판단됨으로 이에 피부진단기의 기준면과의 평행(parallel polarization) 이미지로 피부표피의 변화를 확인 하고자 했다. 본 연구의 고압산소챔버를 활용한 피부표피에 대한 분석 및 실험 결과, 주름살 및 상처(Wrinkle & Scar) 분석에서 피실험자 남자1 3%, 남자2 2%, 여자1 5.9%, 여자2 2.3%로 피실험자 모두 감소 현상을 보여 피부 탄력도가 좋아 지는 효과를 보였다. 피부미백(S-Gray) 분석에서는 피실험자의 피부 표피면의 멜라닌 및 에리즈마 색소의 피부 톤이 남자1 1.1%, 남자2 2.3%, 여자1 4% 로 피실험자 4명 중 3명은 상승 효과를 얻었으나, 피실험자 다른 1명인 여자2는 2.3% 하향의 결과가 나타났다. 홍도(Erythema) 분석, 피실험자 정상인 부위인 D.BLUE/BLUE 값이 남자1 5.6%, 남자2 4.9%, 여자1 17.3%, 여자2 15.3% 증가 현상을 보였으며 남자와 여자의 효과 차이가 10% 이상으로 나타낸 것으로 보아 남자 보다는 여자가 우세한 것으로 판단되었으며, 비정상인 에리즈마 색소(민감도)의 비정상인 부위인 YELLOW/RED 컬러 값에서 남자1 5.2%, 남자2 5%, 여자1 9.2%, 여자2 4.5% 감소 하였음을 보였다. 이에 피실험자 모두 에리즈마인 민감성 산소치료에 따른 피부에 미치는 영향이 효과가 있는 것으로 판명되었다.

The Effect of Plastic Working on the Membrane Fatigue Life (소성가공이 멤브레인 피로 수명에 미치는 영향)

  • An investigation was made on the fatigue characteristics of type 304 stainless steel membrane manufactured by plastic working. To investigate the effect of plastic deformation, tests were performed with 5 types of specimens having different amount of plastic deformation. Fatigue tests were executed under both room and LNG temperatures $(-162^{\circ}C)$. All the test results were compared with the fatigue data provided by RPIS (Recommended Practice for Inground LNG Storage Tank). On the basis of these results, it was confirmed that RPIS's design fatigue curve could be applied to evaluate fatigue life of KOGAS membrane manufactured by pressing.

Low Cycle Fatigue Behavior of Longitudinal Reinforcement (축방향철근의 저주파 피로 거동)

  • The purposes of this study is to verify the fracture characteristic of steel which is manufactured in Korea, subjected to cyclic loading. This investigation deals with the low cycle fatigue behavior of longitudinal reinforcement in reinforced concrete bridge substructure (piles and columns of piers). Eighty-one specimens of longitudinal reinforcement were tested under axial strain controlled reversed cyclic tests with strain amplitudes. The selected test variables are ratio of tension strain to compression strain, yield stress of longitudinal reinforcement, ratio of diameter of longitudinal steel to clear length of longitudinal steel, size of longitudinal steel and strain amplitudes. Low cycle fatigue behavior and low-cycle fatigue life are investigated and discussed in this paper.

토빈 Q를 이용한 합병효과분석

  • 본 연구는 Tobin-Q 비율(이하 토빈 Q, 또는 Q)을 이용하여 합병제의기업과 피합병대상기업을 합병전 경영성과의 우열에 따라 분류하고, 분류 집단별 초과수익률을 측정 검증함으로써 합병전 후의 합병관련기업의 합병효과를 분석하였다. 실증분석 결과를 보면 합병제의기업과 피합병기업 모두 합병 공시 후 양의 초과수익률을 얻는 것으로 나타났으며, 합병제의기업은 토빈 Q가 낮을수록 합병성과가 크게 나타났고, 피합병대상기업은 토빈 Q가 높을수록 합병성과가 크게 나타났다. 또한 합병제의기업과 피합병대상기업의 토빈 Q를 동시에 고려한 경우에는 합병제의기업의 Q가 높고 피합병대상기업의 Q가 낮으면, 합병성과가 작았고, 합병제의기업의 Q가 낮고 피합병대상기업의 Q가 높으면 합병성과가 높게 나타난다는 경향을 관찰할 수 있었다. 이러한 연구결과는 경영성과가 좋은 합병제의기업이 대체적으로 이득을 보지만, 경영이 부실한 피합병대상기업을 인수할 때 더 많은 이득을 본다는 Lang, Stulz, Walkling(1989)의 연구결과는 상반되는 것이다. 또한 경영성과가 나쁜 기업을 합병함으로써 보다 많은 합병가치 창조가 가능하다는 Servaes(1991)의 연구결과와도 상반되는 것이다. 이러한 상반된 결과는 우리나라 현실에서 합병이 대개는 계열그룹내, 또는 지배회사와 피지배회사간의 합병이 주류를 이루고, 세법상 합병기업의 손실은 승계되지만 피합병기업의 손실은 승계되지 않으므로 형식상 합병제의기업과 피합병대상기입이 뒤바뀌는 경향이 많다는 점에서 그 원인을 추정할 수 있다.
