  • We investigated X-ray radiated from the pulsed Plasma Focus device that translated from electric energy into electromagnetic wave by electric discharge. X-ray radiation is analysed by using pin photodiode and 0.5mm pinhole camera shielded by $25{\mu}m$ Be. The condition of X-ray radiation was that the discharging voltage was 15 kV and the working gas were 0.12 torr Argon. Reproducibility of X-ray radiation is investigated and X-ray temperature is calculated above 3keV.

  • We investigated visible light radiated from Plasma Focus device by time-integrated analyzed method. Plasma focus is a device that translated from electric energy into visible light by electric discharge. Spectral analysis is using Monochromator(focal length = 0.5 m). Time-integrated spectrum is analyzed with densitometer the film which developed a constant range of wavelength. The condition of visible emission was that the discharging voltage was 13 kV and the working gas were Argon and Helium.

  • In this Part 2, the grain growth processes of $Al_2O_3$ ceramics is numerically simulated using Monte Carlo method (MCM) and finite element method (FEM) and the pore sizes are analyzed. As the green ceramics whose thermal conductivities in high temperatures are generally low are sintered by the plasma heat and are rapidly cooled, the grain growth of the sintered body in the center is different from that in the outer. Also, even in the same sintering temperature, the pore size differs according to the pressing pressure. In order to prove the difference, the temperature distribution of the sintered body was analyzed using the finite element method and then the grain growth process associated with pressing pressures and relative densities was simulated using Monte Carlo method.

  • A surfatron-type microwave induced plasma (MIP) cavity has been constructed, which can be easily interfaced with a gas chromatograph. Various plasma gases such as He, Ar and N2 were used to generate the MIP and small amounts of CO2 gases were injected through the MIP to obtain characteristic spectrum of each plasma gas and to study feasibility of the MIP as a soft ionization source. Since He and Ar plasmas have high metastable state energy, it was not possible to detect sample gas in molecular state. With N2 plasma, however, a strong emission of molecular ions could be detected owing to its low metastable state energy.

  • Surface modification of polypropylene hollow fiber membranes was performed in order to develop blood-compatibility biomaterials for use in the blood contacting surfaces and oxygenation membranes of a lung assist device (LAD), important medical device even more useful. Blood compatibility of materials was determined by using anticoagulation blood and evaluating formation of blood clots on their surfaces as well as activation of plasma coagulation cascade, platelet adhesion, and aggregation. It was verified that the number of platelets on the silicone coated fibers was significantly lower than that on untreated fiber membrane, indicating improved blood compatibility. It was also found that the polypropylene hollow fiber membranes using plasma treatment exhibited suppression of complement activation in blood compatibility test.

  • In the current study, characteristics of the laser-induced plasma were investigated in a gas filled chamber or in a gas jet by using a relatively low intensity laser $(I\;\leq\;5\;\times\;10^{12}\;W/cm^2)$. Temporal evolutions of the produced plasma were measured using the shadow visualization and the shock wave propagation as well as the electron density profiles in the plasma channel was measured using the Mach-Zehnder interferometry. Experimental results such as the structure of the produced plasma, shock propagation speed $(V_s)$, electron density profiles $(n_e)$, and the electron temperature $(T_e)$ are discussed in this study. Since the diagnostic laser pulse occurs over short time intervals compared to the hydrodynamic time scales of expanding plasma or a gas jet, all the transient motion occurring during the measurement is assumed to be essentially frozen. Therefore, temporally well-resolved quantitative measurements were possible in this study.

  • In this study, we made a new discharge source improving previous SPI source to ionize softly organic compounds. The new SPI source consists of two electrodes as a hollow mesh cathode of half cylindrical shape and a hollow anode. We optimized the geometrical parameter of the SPI source by investigating the I-V curves at the various distance between the cathode and the anode. As the results, we found stable conditions of the soft plasma on broad range of the current and the voltage. The new SPI source attached to quadrupole mass spectrometer (QMS), and we obtained the mass spectra of dichloromethane (DCM). The fragment patterns of DCM appeared similarly with the pattern of electron ionization (EI).

  • Although an association of Kawasaki disease (KD) with infectious agents has been suggested, none have been proven to cause KD. In this case study, we present a case of KD with concurrent onset of influenza and Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) infections. A 27-month-old boy presented with prolonged fever, cough, and rhinorrhea. During the initial testing, influenza A infection was identified, and he was treated with oseltamivir. Despite the antiviral therapy, the fever persisted, and he had cervical lymph node enlargement, bilateral conjunctival injection, fissured red lips, strawberry tongue, and erythematous skin lesions on the Bacillus Calmette-$Gu{\acute{e}}rin$ vaccination site. Thus, the patient was diagnosed with KD and was treated with intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG). The result of the initial antimycoplasma immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibody testing and was positive, and an increased IgM titer from baseline was found in a repeat test. We reviewed the hypotheses on pathogens known to be associated with KD and the etiology of KD. Based on our findings, we suspect that symptoms of KD and coronary artery lesions can occur from various infections besides those caused by Mycoplasma species and influenza viruses.

  • In this study, we had designed and fabricated the plasma focus device which can generate the light source for EUV(Extreme Ultra Violet) lithography. And we also have investigated the basic electrical characteristics of currents, voltages, resistance and inductance of this system. Voltage and current signals were measured by C-dot and B-dot probe, respectively. We applied various voltages of 1.5, 2, 2.5 and 3 kV to the anode electrode and observed voltages and current signals in accordance with various Ar pressures of 1 mTorr to 100 Torr in diode chamber. It is observed that the peak values of voltage and current signals were measured at 300 mTorr, where the inductance and impedance were also estimated to be 73 nH and $35 m{\Omega}$ respectively. The electron temperature has been shown to be 13000 K at the diode voltage of 2.5 kV and this gas pressure of 300 mTorr. It is also found that the ion density Ni and ionization rate 0 have been shown to be $N_i = 8.25{\times}10^{15}/cc$ and ${\delta}$= 77.8%, respectively by optical emission spectroscopy from assumption of local thermodynamic equilibrium(LTE) plasma.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a practical caries activity test by fluorescence using laser, plasma light and halogen light. The subjects of study were 45 children of 7-8 years old Argon laser, plasma light and halogen light were irradiated to buccal or labial surface of all teeth. Fluorescence of initial carious lesion from teeth was observed through barrier filter and the number of teeth showing lesion was counted. Visual examination for the dDfFtT, mutans streptococci screening test and Lactobacilli colony counting were also done. Data analysis was accomplished by Axelsson's method. The result from the present study can be summarized as follows. 1. Laser, plasma light and halogen light could detect the initial carious lesions better than visual examination(p<0.05). 2. There was positive correlation between laser(r=0.42), plasma light(r=0.41), halogen light(r=0.39) and dBfFtT rate(p<0.01). 3. The specificity sensitivity and predictive value was showed highest value in laser, but was showed favorable value in plasma light and halogen light. In regard to above results, laser, plasma light and halogen light all considered to be reliable method for determining individual caries activity. And they were also considered to be practical method because it would be simple, inexpensive, and time saving method.
