  • The present work is aimed to evaluate the conditions of the hydride generation (HG) for germanium analysis by inductively coupled plasma (ICP)-atomic emission spectrometry (AES). Twelve different kinds of acids were used such as phosphoric, hydrochloric, nitric, sulfuric, perchloric, boric, tartaric, malic, oxalic, tannic, citric, and acetic acid. It was found that phosphoric acid yielded the maximum efficiency of hydride generation. Also, efficient hydride generation was obtined with the buffer solutions containing phosphate ions over a wide range of pH. In addition, in the presence of phosphoric acid the interference caused by metals was suppressed in the hydride generation of germanium. As the concentrations of a reducing agent and a stabilizing increased the hydride generation efficiency and the acid concentration proviaing the maximum intensity were increased. By using an analytical method developed in this study, the contents of germanium in water and rock samples were determined. The detection limit of germanium in the presence of phosphoric acid was $0.03{\mu}g/L$.

  • The optimization of the reductant and acid concentration for stannane($SnH_4$) generation was investigated by using a continuous flow hydride generator combined with an inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometer. Several different prereductants were studied to remove the interfering effect of fluoride ion on the hydride generating of tin. The optimum acid concentration was 0.5-1.0 M for the 1-2% $NaBH_4$ and 1.0 M NaOH and the interfering effect of fluoride ion was minimized using boric acid and L-cysteine mixed solution as a prereductant. The reconveries of tin at 20 ng/mL level in the solution containing fluoride ion were 100~108 %.

  • Electrothermal-Hollow Cathode Glow Discharge Spectrometry (Et-HCGDS) has been constructed in our laboratory for in-situ monitoring of traceble amounts of rare earth elements and actinides. Et-HCGDS is the portable glow discharge system that can perform the trace analysis of elements. The main structural design of Et-HCGDS was based upon the electrothermal heating and glow discharge techniques. More details on Et-HCGDS are available elsewhere. In this study, air was used as a flow gas for the glow discharge system. As a result, the emission spectra of air were collected and the assignment of air emission lines was performed with helps of pure nitrogen and oxygen emission spectra and previously published results. We found that the emission lines of air plasma were mainly due to nitrogen molecules. This paper includes the complete assignments of the air emission lines observed by using Et-HCGDS. Also, this study will be an useful reference for spectrochemical anaysis including air analysis.

  • This research utilized the Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy(EDS) and the Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry in the analysis of chemical elements present among the textiles exhumed from Kupori Hwasung-kun Kyunggi-do. The two research objectives were: first to examine the elements present and their percent presence in Kupori samples: second to investigate whether the elements are part of mordant substances which could have been used when dyeing the KUpori textiles in the past. To meet such research purposes standard silk fabric was dyed with Sophorajaponica using alum and iron mordants. For alum mordant unpurified general alum and potassium aluminum sulfate(AlK(SO4)2). iron sulfate(FeSO4·7H2O) were used, From the results of EDS and ICP-Mass analysis the following conclusions were drawn. 1 According to the EDS analysis 9 elements Ca, S, Al, Si, K, Fe, P, Mg and Na were detected. 2. ICP-Mass result of the mordant chemicas showed high amount of A, Al and k present in alum mordants and S and Fe present in iron mordants. 3. Comparison of the ICP-Mass results of the mordant chemicals and those of the standard dyed samples suggested that the amount presence of Al and Fe is a strong indication of the usage of alum and iron mordants respecticely in an unknown dyed textile. 4, In the washed Kupori textiles Fe showed a relatively higher rate of presence in the samples Therefore it can be conjectured that those Kupori textiles were dyed with iron mordant based on the result of the above number 3. 5. It is probable that the other elements detected from the Kupori samples were incorporated into the textiles as part of the soil debris produced from the degradation of the dead within the coffin or the earth debris. They can also be part of the inorganic compounds inherent in the silk textiles themselves before dyed. 6. Among the elements it is likely that Ca which showed a high degree of presence among the unwashed samples was part of the inorganic compound inferent in the silk textiles.

  • This is a research on hazardous characteristics and potentials of bottom ash from 9 municipal solid waste combustors(200 tons/day) of Korea by the test methods of leaching and content. The leaching method was performed by Waste Test Method of Korea. In case of the content method, mercury was determined by thermal decomposition amalgamation atomic absorption spectrometer, other 9 elemets including Pb, which were pretreated by U.S.EPA SW-846 3050B method, were determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometer(FAAS) or inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometer(ICP-AES). Results of leaching test showed that Pb and Cu was main pollutants. It was interested that the distribution rate of metals' contents of each combustors was similar and the rank of concentration was Fe>Zn>Cu>Mn>Pb>Cr>As>Cd>Hg.

  • This study was conducted to examine the contents of heavy metals in beverages and to estimate their intakes. The contents of lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), and tin (Sn) were determined in a total of 207 samples of beverages using atomic absorption spectrophotometer(AAS) and inductively coupled plasma spectrometer(ICP). Also a mercury analyzer was utilized for analysis of mercury. The values of heavy metals in beverages were as follows [min-max (mean), mg/kg]; Hg 0.0001-0.0025 (0.0004), As ND-0.0245 (0.0003), Pb ND-0.089 (0.004), Cd ND-0.006 (0.001), Sn ND-45.36 (1.97). Our results were similar to those reported by other countries. Our weekly intakes of heavy metals from beverages take $0.01%{\sim}0.06%$ of PTWI (Provisional Tolerable Weekly Intake) established by FAO/WHO.

  • The 8 rare earth elements were determined in the monazite concentrates by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. The spectral line overlapping interferences from the other elements were investigated and the correction methods of interferences were studied using line overlap coefficients. The coefficients were calculated from the ratios of the intensities measured at the diffracted angle (2${\theta}$) of the analytical lines of other elements to the intensity of pure rare earth oxide. The coefficients were used to correct the line overlaps by a regression analysis. The linearities of calibration curves from the corrected intensities were remarkably improved, and their standard deviations were decreased. The analytical results agreed with that of the inductively coupled plasma(ICP) spectrometry within an allowable error range.

  • The analytical results obtained by microwave digestion and acid digestion methods for sample pretreatment to determine metal impurities in silicon wafer by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) were compared. In order to decompose the silicon wafer, a mixed solution of $HNO_3$ and HF was added to the sample and the metal elements were determined after removing the silicon matrix by evaporating silicon in the form of Si-F. The recovery percentages of Ni,Cr and Fe were found to be 95∼106% for both microwave digestion and acid digestion methods. The recovery percentage of Cu obtained by the acid digestion method was higher than that obtained by the microwave digestion method. For Zn, however, the microwave digestion method gave better result than the acid digestion method. Fe was added to a silicon wafer using a spin coater. The concentration of Fe in this sample was determined by lCP-MS, and the same results were obtained in the two pretreatment methods.

  • Though the nuclear fusion system has been fused into hydro-nuclear based on thermodynamics by tokamak system, there has been no success story. Because it's impossible to confine high temperatured plasma long Time actually. New nuclear-fusion-system using this nuclear-fusion-method will gather toroidal-magnetic-field by putting Core Block(C shaped torus iron) and toroidal-aluminium coil into toroidal magnetic-field-aluminium. That will arrange the nuclear-fusion-route on a gap fallen out by a part of cut torus-core and mkee the toroidal-an electric-current flow and electrolyze the fusioned-material (an electrolyte) into troidal-electrocity. That consists of troidal-magnetic-fild coil, toroidal-coial fusioned- material, series circuit. So toroidal-electocity will be changed into filament-electrocity and be introjected into fusioned-material. In a sapce on filament-electrocity, the magnetic inhaling-powr will enlarge to input-electrocity outside. This will exceed the Coulomb force and reache the nuclear-fusion. By this phenomenon there be quantity-loss. By this process I could confirmed that Einstein euation$(E=mC^2)$ releases into thermal energy.
