  • Wind tunnel experiment and computational analysis have been carried out to evaluate the performance of propeller for scale electric-powered HALE UAV, named EAV-2H+. Performance curves are measured for three propellers and their adequacy for EAV-2H+ installation is examined through consideration of operating conditions. Decline in performance coefficients is observed in low rpm region. Also, the effect of transition tape on propeller performance is measured and analyzed. The computational performance analyses are carried out by using commercial CFD program. The thrust and power coefficient from computations show good agreement with experimental results. Performance coefficients are compared and the influence of measurement device which contributes to discrepancy of the results is examined. Transition SST model is confirmed to yield the tendency of performance decline in low rpm range, similar to experimental observation. The decrease in aerodynamic performance of blade element due to low Reynolds number is identified to cause the decline in propeller performance. Analyses for high altitude conditions confirms degradation in propeller performance.

  • Reciprocating engine is widely used for small propeller driven aircraft. because it is the superior efficiency and low price. Currently, reciprocating engine is used for the development of KC-100, LSA, PAV, UAV in domestic. In this study, Naturally aspirated engine and turbocharger engine performance model is developed. The propeller is designed and analyzed at cruise condition of reciprocating engine aircraft using optimum method, the propeller performance model is developed. The Integrated propulsion performance model is developed, through the matching with engine and propeller performance model, for small reciprocating engine aircraft performance analysis.

  • This paper presents the development and test results of a test rig for confirming the hover performance of the coaxial propeller which is applied to the drone in order to carry out the mission that requires high payload such as the development of the courier drones. the performance of each propeller was measured by varying the thrust and torque according to the H/D ratio. the Thrust sensor and torque sensor were used to measure the thrust and torque generated when the propeller rotated, and a photo sensor was used to measure the rpm. it used the data acquisition system to acquire data from each sensor, and used the Labview softwaer to control data storage, monitoring and BLDC motor control. In the test, each propeller meansured the figure of mefit according to the chansge of the interval at the same rpm.

  • Performance analyses were performed on a propeller developed for use in a PAV (Personal Air Vehicle) under 600 kg Maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW). The actuator disc theory and CFD analyses were used to estimate the hovering time with regards to MTOW variation for a given battery weight. The interference induced power factor kint was introduced to account for the effect of flow interference between the propellers and to estimate the performance of counter-rotating propellers. The Maximum Figure of Merit (FM) value of the propeller pitch was determined and the design RPM range for the required power inversely obtained from the CFD results. Previous research indicate that the flight time of large multi-copter is limited by the available battery energy density. Similarly, the propeller pitch settings and spacing are important factors in reducing the kint value.

  • Design analysis and grow1d test on propellers for 50 m-long airship propulsion were conducted. The design analysis code developed by adopting the vortex-blade-element theory was applied to the design of optimum propeller at the condition of maximum flight speed at sea level. In order to validate the performance of the propeller, ground test of the propeller was performed, and thrust and torque were measured for several different pitch angles at static condition. The power coefficients and thrust coefficients obtained by the test compared well with the analysis results.

  • Wind tunnel test on 20" class propellers are carried out at KARI's low speed wind tunnel (LSWT). The test was done to select most efficient propeller for middle size electric propulsion UAV of KARI. The propellers are commercially available 20" class folding type propellers made of carbon fiber composite material. As the result, 21"${\times}$15.5" propeller was selected whose efficiency is 66% at cruise condition.

  • The effect of propeller surface roughness condition on ship performance is very significant even the influence of fouling on propeller performance is not well established compared to biofouling on the hull surface. In present study, predictions of open water efficiency of propeller are made for three different fouling conditions, and its application is given for the 7m full-scale propeller of a medium-size tanker in open water condition. The numerical predictions of propeller efficiency loss due to fouling are based on the results from laboratory-scale drag measurements and boundary layer similarity law analysis presented in Schultz (2007) together with an in-house unsteady lifting surface code which is an appropriate tool to predict the effect of propeller surface roughness on propeller performance. The results of this study indicate that the subject propeller with the small calcareous fouling ($k_s=0.001$) can lead to as high as 15 % loss at the propeller operating condition (J=0.5) and the loss of propeller efficiency due to fouling should be evaluated while the ship is operating.

  • The present study deals with the propeller design for the standard new propeller series so called KF Series for 52ton class fishing vessel. The MAU or B series have been usually used for the fishing vessel's propeller, which are to be improved in consideration of the efficiency as well as the cavitation point of view. The high technology of propeller design has been applied to the design of 52ton class fishing vessel's propeller in the present study. The new designed series propellers will be validated by the experimental results whose data will be also used for the new series chart.
