  • A small refrigeration system used in a water purifier was tested by employing propane/isobutane (R-290/R-6OOa) mixtures as an alternative refrigerant of R-12. The drop-in tests were performed by varying mass fraction of propane at 0.25, 0.5 and 0.75 with a change of both refrigerant charge amount and capillary tube length in order to find an optimum composition in aspect of performance and reliability of the system. As a result, the mixture of 50% propane-50% isobutane showed the best performance and reliability among them in a small refrigeration system. During steady state operations, both the COP and refrigeration capacity increased by 4% and 9%, respectively, as compared to the baseline R-12 system. In addition, the propane/isobutane (50/50) mixture system yielded advantages in the minimization of modification and redesigning of system components due to very similar saturation tempera- ture and pressure characteristics with R-12.

  • Combustion and performance of a spark-ignition engine fueled with propane and butane were analyzed under different compression ratio. The electricity efficiencies of propane and butane increased with increasing the electricity production. The heat release rates of propane and butane were similar at a compression ratio of 9:1 because both fuels had similar optimal ignition timings without knocking combustion. Therefore, the difference in electricity efficiencies of engine generators was insignificant. However, at a higher compression ratio of 11:1, the butane engine generator had a lower electricity efficiency than the propane engine generator because its ignition timing retarded to suppress the knocking combustion.

  • Liquefied Petroleum 6aso-PG) is combustible gas which used for fuel for domestic and automobiles. A research for adjust a component of LPG to improve the fuel characteristics and control the manufacturing process of that is carrying in petrochemical industry. Some kinds of LPG blending is considered as a adjusting method to control component of LPG. LPG is mainly propane for domestic use and butane for automobile use but propylene and butylene also a kind of LPG Change of explosion characteristic and combustion gas component by mixing of propylene in propane and butane was measured and analysed in this research. Based on the result of experiment, it was found that explosion pressure and pressure rise rate was slightly increased with mixing rate of propylene and it was considered the possibility of increasing the CO concentration in combustion gas with increase the mixing rate of propylene.

  • The depropanizing, debutanizing and deisobutanizing fractionation steps of processing natural gas liquids were improved through studying complex distillation arrangements, including the double dividing wall column arrangement (DDWC), the sequence including a dividing wall column (DWC) and a bottom DWC (BDWC), and the sequence including a DWC and a BDWC with top vapor recompression heat pump. These arrangements offer benefits by decreasing reboiler and condenser power consumption. Reducing the number of columns and their diameters can potentially reduce construction costs. The result also showed that operating cost could be reduced most significantly through novel combinations of internal and external heat integration: bottom dividing wall columns employing a top vapor recompression heat pump.

  • This paper describes the homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engine for a new concept. HCCI engines are being considered as a future alternative for diesel and gasoline engines. HCCI engines have the potential for high indicated thermal efficiency under part load and very low NOx emissions. The objective of this paper is to clear the effects of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) rate on the HCCI. For this purpose, a 4-cylinder, compression ignition engine was converted into a HCCI engine This work has been run with propane and butane fuels at a constant speed.

  • The membrane requires both high in selectivity and flux. However, the permselective membrane has low flux. In this study, the porous alumina membrane was coated with silane coupling agent in order to enhance the flux with proper selectivity. The contact angle of water to the surface-modified alumina membrane was greater than 90$^{\circ}$, which indicated the high hydrophobicity. The modified membrane was tested in vapor permeation for the concentration of aqueous ethanol, isopropanol, and n-butanol. With the increase of ethanol, isopropanol, butanol concentration in the feed, permeation flux increased due to the greater affinity of ethanol, isopropanol, butanol with surface-modified alumina membrane than that of water. The experimental results showed that the permeation tate of surface-modified alumina membrane was 20~1000 times greater than that of a polymer membranes.

  • The catalysis of carbon black was investigated for the production of hydrogen by the catalytic decomposition of propane-butane mixture gas in this study. The thermal and the catalytic decompositions of hydrocarbons were performed at the temperature range of 500 - $1100^{\circ}C$, respectively. The conversions of hydrocarbons and the mole traction of hydrogen increased with increasing the reaction temperature and the conversion of hydrocarbons in the catalytic decomposition process was approximately liked with that obtained by the thermal decomposition. However, the mole traction of hydrogen produced in the catalytic decomposition process was higher than that obtained from the thermal decomposition. Therefore, it was concluded that the catalysis for the decomposition of hydrocarbons is occurred over carbon black used as catalyst. The mole traction of hydrogen produced by the catalytic decomposition of hydrocarbons also increased with increasing the mole ratio of $C_3H_8/C_4H_{10}$ in propane and butane mixture gas at $700^{\circ}C$. Therefore, it was concluded that the catalytic decomposition of the high propane mixture gas is more effectively for the production of hydrogen.
