Adaptive Dynamic Slot Assignment of VBR Traffics Using In-band Parameters in Wireless ATM (무선 ATM에서 In-Band 파라미터를 이용한 VBR 트래픽의 적응적 슬롯 할당)

  • In this paper, we propose a new adaptive slot assignment algorithm called In-VDSA in order to guarantee the QoS(Quality of Service) of VBR(Variable Bit Rate) traffics in wireless ATM and maximize efficiency in use of wireless channels. In the proposed algorithm, the status of terminal buffers is encoded in signed number on the GFC(Generic Flow Control) field of an ATM cell header and piggybacked. And also, the number of slots to be assigned to the next frame is adjusted effectively, which is different to methods in the conventional slot assignment algorithms. As a result, we can guarantee QoS such as CLR(Cell Loss Rate) and cell delay and achieve the higher utilization of channels. The validity of the proposed algorithm has been justified in performance by analysis through simulation results using the BONeS tool and comparison with conventional methods.

Design of Sub-pixel Interpolation Circuit for Real-time Multi-decoder Supporting 4K-UHD Video Images (4K-UHD 영상을 지원하는 실시간 통합 복호기용 부화소 보간 회로 설계)

  • This paper proposes the design of sub-pixel interpolation circuit for real-time multi-decoder supporting 4K-UHD video images. The proposed sub-pixel interpolation circuit supports H.264, MPEG-4, VC-1 and new video compression standard HEVC. The common part of the interpolation algorithm used in each video compression standard is shared to reduce the circuit size. An intermediate buffer is effectively used to reduce the circuit size and optimize the performance. The proposed sub-pixel interpolation circuit was synthesised by using 130nm standard cell library. The synthesized gate-level circuit consists of 122,564 gates and processes 35~86 image frames per second for 4K-UHD video at the maximum operation frequency of 200MHz. Therefore, the proposed circuit can process 4K-UHD video in real time.

  • This paper presents an approach for rate control by adaptively selecting macroblock modes in video coding.The problem of rate control has been investigated by many authors where quantizer level is adjustedbased on the buffer fullness. The proposed approach is different fron the previous ones [4] id that it finds the optimal decision curve rather than finding a set of the modes. Proposed algorithm extends the coding decision options for rate control to motion/no-motion compensation as well as inter/intra decisions. Instead of having a fixed motion/no-notion compensation or inter/intra decision curve, one can utilize an adaptive decision curvebased on the characteristics of input frames so that the PSNR at a given bit rate is maximized. Therefore, the proposed approach provides better rate control than simple quantizer feedback approach interns of visual quality. The curve is obtained by utilizing simulated annealing optimization technique. Thealgorithm is implemented and simulations are compared with other approaches within H.261 video codec.

  • This paper examines the implementation of automatic compensation modules for digital camera image when a person is closing his/her eyes. The modules detect the face and eye region and then recognize the eye state. If the image is taken when a person is closing his/her eyes, the function corrects the eye and produces the image by using the most satisfactory image of the eye state among the past frames stored in the buffer. In order to recognize the face and eye precisely, the pre-process of image correction is carried out using SURF algorithm and Homography method. For the detection of face and eye region, Haar-like feature algorithm is used. To decide whether the eye is open or not, similarity comparison method is used along with template matching of the eye region. The modules are tested in various facial environments and confirmed to effectively correct the images containing faces.

  • 네트워크 가상현실 시스템은 먼 거리에 떨어진 사용자들 사이에 일관성 있는 가상 세계를 제공하며, 군사, 오락, 건축 등 여러 부분에 응용되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 그 동안 고성능 그래픽 워크스테이션 환경에서 중심적으로 연구되어 왔던 네트워크 가상현실 시스템을 가장 보편적인 플랫폼인 네트워크 환경에서 구현할 때 생기는 3차원 그래픽 처리 성능의 문제 등과 같은 이에 대한 해결책들을 제시하고 미로 환경과 지형 환경에 근거한 가상 세계를 응용 실험 대상으로 삼아 성능을 분석하였다. 실시간으로 상호 작용하는 어플리케이션은 성능을 유지하면서 모든 참가자들에게 동일한 뷰를 보여주는 것이 중요하다. 동일한 뷰를 제공하기 위해 참가자들이 전송하는 이벤트마다 재생 지연 시간을 설정하고, 수신한 이벤트에 대해서는 예정 재생 시각까지 버퍼에 저장하여 모든 참가자들이 동시에 이벤트를 실행하도록 하는 기법이 제안되어 왔다. 그러나 네트워크 트래픽이 동적으로 변하므로 네트워크 상에서 발생하는 전송 지연 시간도 동적으로 변화한다. 그러므로 고정된 재생 지연 시간을 사용할 경우, 네트워크 트래픽 감소에 따라 상호 작용 성능을 향상시킬 수 있는 기회를 상실하게 되고, 네트워크 트래픽 증가에 따라 이벤트 손실률이 크게 증가하게 되어 참가자들 간에 일치하지 않는 뷰를 초래하게 된다. 네트워크 트래픽이 적어서 전송 지연 시간이 짧을 경우 짧은 재생 지연 시간을 적용하여 상호작용 성능을 높여주고, 트래픽이 많은 경우에는 재생 지연 시간을 늘림으로써 상호 작용 성능을 해치지 않는 범위에서 이벤트 손실률을 줄인다. 실험을 통하여 제안하는 기법의 성능을 평가하였으며 그 결과 본 동기화 기법이 고부하(heavily loaded) 네트워크 상태가 지속되는 동안 기존 기법에 비해 참가자들에게 일치된 뷰를 제공할 수 있고, 저부하(lightly loaded) 네트워크 상태에서는 상호 작용 성능을 향상시킬 수 있다는 것을 확인하였다.

Performance Analysis of Layered Cell Protocol for the Integrated Traffic of Packetized Voice and Low Bit-rate Data (패킷화된 음성과 저속의 데이터가 혼합된 트래픽을 위한 Layered Cell 프로토콜의 성능해석)

  • In this paper, we proposed a simulation model to which apply the AAL 2 (AAL type 2) between BSC and MSC in the cellular mobile communication systems. We suggested the frame structure of processing the packets of short length and the scheme which multiplex to one or more ATM cell. Also, we analyzed the performance of the APR, transmission delay, and channel transmission efficiency used in the packetized voice traffic and the low bit-rate data traffic such as fax. From the simulation results, the maximum number of users are 47 users without using AAL 2 multiplexing, but the maximum number of users are 70 (Non-Overlapping scheme) users, 110 (Overlapping scheme) users, respectively. Thus, we knew that the Overlapping scheme is more efficient than the Non-Overlapping scheme. Finally, we showed that the optimum transmission buffer size is 4 ATM cells in the cellular communication systems with the bandwidth of 2 Mbps.

  • In this paper, after inputting the computer with the attached number plate on the vehicle, using it, the color decomposition method and back propagation neural network proposed the extractable method of the vehicle number plate at high speed. This method separated R, G, B signal form input moving vehicle image to computer through video camera, then after transform this R, G, B signal into input image data of the computer by using color depth of vehicle number plate and store up binary value in the memory frame buffer. After adapting character's recognition algorithm, also improving this, by adapting back propagation neural network makes the vehicle number plate recognition system. Also minimalizing the similar color's confusion, adapting horizontal and vertical extracting algorithm by using the vehicle's rectangular architecture shows the extract and character's recognition of the vehicle number plate at high speed.

A Study on a Reliable Cooperative MAC Protocol for Ad Hoc Networks (채널오류에 강한 애드혹 네트워크용 협력통신 MAC 프로토콜에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, a cooperative MAC protocol that is reliable over bad wireless channel environments and thus can enhance the system performance much more is proposed. Its performance is evaluated with the computer simulation. The system throughput and average waiting delay are used as performance measures. According to numerical results, the proposed MAC protocol provides better system throughput by 24% than the traditional rDCF scheme. From the average waiting delay point of view, when the number of terminals is small, the proposed MAC protocol has the better performance in an average view-point than the rDCF scheme. However, when the number of terminals is large, the proposed MAC protocol provides a little worse performance than the rDCF scheme. That is because, when the number of terminals is large, the dominant factor affecting the system performance is channel contention procedure, which results in lots of collisions. However, if the queuing delays in the waiting buffers are included for calculating the average waiting delay, then the total system delay will be smaller than the rDCF scheme.

  • IEEE 802.11e standardized the EDCA mechanism to support the priority based QoS. And the virtual collision handler schedules the transmission time of each MAC frame using the internal back-off window according to the access category(AC). This can provides the differentiated QoS to real-time services at the medium traffic load condition. However, the transmission delay of MAC frame for real-time services may be increased as the traffic load of best effort service increases. It becomes more critical when the real-time service uses a compressed mode video codec such as moving picture experts group(MPEG) 4 codec. That is because each frame has the different importance. That is, the I-frame has more information as compared with the P- and the B-frame. In this paper, we proposed a buffer management algorithm based on the frame importance and the delay bound. The proposed algorithm is consisted of the traffic regulator based on the dual token bucket algorithm and the active queue management algorithm. The traffic regulator reduces the transmission rate of lower AC until that the virtual collision handler can transmit an I-frame. And the active queue management discards frame based on the importance of each frame and the delay bound of head of line(HoL) frame when the channel resource is insufficient.

  • In this paper, we proposed and implemented a dedicated hardware for Huffman coding which is a method of entropy coding to use compressing multimedia data with video coding. The proposed Huffman codec consists Huffman encoder and decoder. The Huffman encoder converts symbols to Huffman codes using look-up table. The Huffman code which has a variable length is packetized to a data format with 32 bits in data packeting block and then sequentially output in unit of a frame. The Huffman decoder converts serial bitstream to original symbols without buffering using FSM(finite state machine) which has a tree structure. The proposed hardware has a flexible operational property to program encoding and decoding hardware, so it can operate various Huffman coding. The implemented hardware was implemented in Cyclone III FPGA of Altera Inc., and it uses 3725 LUTs in the operational frequency of 365MHz
