Video Replay by Frame Receive Order Relocation Method in the Wire and Wireless Network (유무선 네트워크에서 프레임 수신 순서 재할당 방법을 사용한 동영상 재생)

  • When video service is performed in simulation using NS-2(Network Simulation-2), the video replay is performed as the received frame order. In the existing video replay method based on the received frame order, as the frame orders of receiver and transmitter are different, the receiver buffer does not have the effect that the packets between the frames of transmitter buffer holds a regular size and packet dense and sparsity phenomenon in the receiver buffer is made by the irregular packet size due to the unpredictable reversed order of received partial frames. The above dense and sparsity phenomenon increases the probability of buffer overflow and underflow generation. To prevent these problems, the proposed frame receive order relocation method adds an extra replay buffer which rearranges the order of receive frame as the order of transmit frame, so it has the effect that the packets between the transmit frames keeps a regular size. Through the simulation using NS-2 and JSVM(Joint Scalable Video Model), the generation number of buffer overflow and underflow, and PSNR(Required Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) performance between the existing method and proposed method were compared. As a result, it was found that the proposed method would have better performance than the existing method.

Cell Buffer Analysis for ATM-to-Frame Relay Interworking (ATM-프레임 릴레이 망 연동장치의 셀 수신 버퍼 용량 분석)

  • In this paper, the size of IWU frame cell buffer is analyzed that receives FR frame cells from other FR networks through ATM backbone network. The frame cell buffer receives multiplexed ATM cells from other IWUs that provide interworking with ATM network for other FR networks A receiving IWU reassembles frames from multiplexed ATM cells by identifying the VPI/VCIs. The reassembled frames are transmitted on FR network links according to their destination. Therefore, IWU needs sufficient amount of buffers for the assembly of the frames and for providing the assembled frames with the queue to wait until the frame is transmitted by FR network link. In this paper, the probability of frame loss at the frame cell buffer is derived in terms of traffic parameters, the number of multiplexed FR connections, the number of FR links and the transmission capacity. By applying the derived results, we analyzed the required buffer size for a given probability of frame loss. Also, it is presented that how the probability and the required size are effected by the number of multiplexed FR connections and FR transmission links.

  • 플래곤-랜더링을 위한 영상합성 구조는 지역 프레임버퍼와 메모리 비용이 큰 문제점을 가진다. 이를 개선하기 위해서 화면-분할 방법과 가상 지역 프레임버퍼 방법이 도입되었으나 이 방법들 역시 상당한 메모리 비용이 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 지역 프레임버퍼 메모리 비용 측면에서 효율적이고, 영상 합성에 필요한 하드웨어를 제거하며, 동시에 영상 합성 시간을 숨길 수 있는 랜더링 시스템과 이에 필요한 병렬 래스터라이져를 설계한다.

  • 3차원 그래픽 랜더링 파이프라인(3D Graphics Rendering Pipeline)은 크게 지오메트리 프로세싱(Geometry Processing)과 레스터라이제이션(Rasterization)으로 구성되어 있다. 본 논문에서는 래스터라이저와 프레임버퍼사이의 대역폭으로 인한 병목점을 분석하고, 그 한계를 극복해 낼 수 있도록 프로세서 메모리 집적구조를 이용하여 랜더링 시스템을 설계, 성능 분석한다. 프레임버퍼의 집적으로 인한 메모리 대역폭을 이용하기 위해, 각 픽셀 처리에 필요한 로직을 포함하는 SIMD 타입의 픽셀 처리 프로세서가 메모리 어레이와 밀결합(tightly coupled)된다. 제안하는 구조는 래스터라이저 로직과 프레임 버퍼가 단일 칩으로 구성되었고, 텍스쳐 매핑, 범프 매핑, 안티알리아싱, 깊이 버퍼를 지원하며 초당 5백만 이상의 삼각형을 처리할 수 있는 고성능 랜더링 시스템이다.

  • Most policies of VOD services are mainly studied about server system, and make no touch on clients buffer stabilization which is the basis of guaranteeing playback quality and playing without cut off. In this paper, we proposed a skipping frame transfer policy that can sending dynamic buffer control signal to server in accordance with clients buffer state of starvation or overrun, and server transfers a skipped frame to client after receive the control signal. And through a simulation, we show the suggested policy is more efficiency on playback quality by buffer stabilization which is by preventing loss and miss for receiving frame due to grow worse client buffer state.

  • This paper introduces two schemes to improve the frame buffer access bandwidth. The first scheme suggests a rasterizer called SBUFRE that has Span Z Buffer and Span Z& Color Buffer within a rasterizer. The second scheme suggests a ZDRAM that has Z-value comparator within the DRAM. These schemes are to convert read- modify-write Z buffer compare into single write only operation that improves approximately 50% frame buffer access bandwidth.

  • Due to the advance of WLAN technology, the use of the multimedia service such as the video streaming service has been increased in the home network. However, we need to study the method which decreases the transmission delay and the frame loss rate to provide QoS of the video streaming service. Therefore, this paper proposes an active buffer management mechanism to guarantee QoS of the streaming service in IEEE 802.11e EDCA. The proposed protocol discards the frame in the HoL of the buffer based on the importance of each frame and the virtual transmission delay of frame newly arriving at the buffer. In the simulation results, the proposed algorithm not only decreases the frame loss probability of important I and P frames but also stabilizes the transmission delay. It may increase the QoS of video streaming services.

A Real-Time Multiple Circular Buffer Model for Streaming MPEG-4 Media (MPEG-4 미디어 스트리밍에 적합한 실시간형 다중원형버퍼 모델)

  • MPEG-4 is a standard for multimedia applications and provides a set of technologies to satisfy the needs of authors, service providers and end users alike. In this paper, we suggest a Real-time Multiple Circular Buffer (M4RM Buffer) model, which is suitable for streaming these MPEG-4 contents efficiently. M4RM buffer generates each structure of the buffer, which matches well with each object composing an MPEG-4 content, according to the transferred information, and manipulates multiple read/write operations only by its reference. It divides the decoder buffer and the composition buffer, which are described in the standard, by the unit of frame allocated to minimize the range of access. This buffer unit of a frame is allocated according to the object description. Also, it processes the objects synchronization within the buffer and provides APIs for an efficient buffer management to process the real-time user events. Based on the performance evaluation, we show that M4RM buffer model decreases the waiting time in a buffer frame, and so allows the real-time streaming of an MPEG-4 content using the smaller size of the memory block than IM1-2D and Window Media Player.

A Power-aware LCD Management based on Frame Buffer Monitoring (프레임버퍼 모니터링에 기반한 저전력 LCD 제어)

  • 본 논문에서는 LCD 디바이스의 프레임버퍼 모니터링에 기반한 소프트웨어 단계의 저전력 LCD 관리 기법을 제시한다. 제안하는 기법은 Refresh-rate를 조절하여 기존 하드웨어에서 추가설비 없이 사용 가능하며, 커널 레벨로 동작하여 어플리케이션의 수정이 필요 없으며, 프레임 버퍼 모니터링을 통해 디스플레이의 퀼리티 보장이 가능한 특징을 가진다. 본 시스템은 Linux 운영체제 하에서 실제 구현되고, 실험을 통해 제안하는 기법이 사용자의 디스플레이 퀼리티 요구를 만족시키면서 저전력 관리를 수행할 수 있음을 밝힌다.

  • In this paper, we propose a buffer management scheme suitable for interactive multimedia services. We consider a typical delay optimization environment so that receiver buffer lengths vary according to the round trip time estimation. In this environment, we propose an optimization technique for minimizing the loss of information that may occur when a reduced buffer length forces I/P/B frames in the buffer to drop. We modeled our problem as a Knapsack Problem for which we used dynamic programing in order to find an approximate solution. The proposed technique is compared with the existing buffer management techniques. Through simulation studies, we found that our approach could increase PSNR, which is important to video quality.
