Optimum design of blank shape for press forming (최적 프레스가공을 위한 블랭크형상 설계)

  • In the stamping industry the blank shape to be stamped into a designed shape has been conventionally determined from the try out process by the press engineers. The work needs a lot of time and thus leads a loss of productivity. In this study boundary element method for 2-dimensional potential problem was used to design optimum blank shapes for irregular press forming. Here we assumed that the blank is controlled by blank holder only and material flow at blank holder was under potential flow. The developed PC code for designing the optimum blank shape shows that the blank shapes for optimal drawing can be calculated within a few minute in pentium PC and the calculated shapes agree well with the experiments. However the application of this method is constrained only to the pressed product with flat bottom.

  • Deep Drawing에 의한 공정용 제어밸브는 밸브의 몸통을 프레스 금형에 의한 냉간 십가공(Deep Drawing)으로 제조된 것으로 내부에 유체제어 요소를 장치하여 유체의 압력, 유량 및 흐름의 특성을 제어하는 밸브이다. 특히 이 밸브는 몸통의 대량생산 방식이 가능해 가격이 저렴하여 경제성을 높였고, 고객의 다양한 유체제어 요구에 부응하므로써 탄력적인 대처가 가능하다.

  • The design parameter study about the magnetic pulse forming is performed using finite element analysis with MAXWELL. The first case of design parameters is about the initial charging voltage and the capacitance and the second case of design parameters are about the winding turns and the spacing of electromagnetic coil. The 3D finite element model of electromagnetic forming system is created and the magnetic force is calculated. The effects of design parameters on the magnetic forming force are investigated.

  • The application of UHSS sheet is being expanded up to 50% to reduce the weight of automobiles and improve safety. However, due to the high strength and low elongation of the ultra-high tensile strength steel sheet, product defects such as spring back and mold defects such as cracks and chippings also occur. In this study, Pin/Ring on Disc and Spiral wear tests were conducted to evaluate the durability of Ti/Cr-coated molds for forming 1.2GPa grade UHSS sheets. Component analysis and thickness were measured for each coating layer, and hardness and adhesion were investigated to determine mechanical properties. Combining the results of various wear tests, it was found that the TiAlN coating had the best wear and sticking resistance.

  • Profile machining using cutter diameter compensation is widely used in die and mould manufacturing. Especially automotive die makers try to use 3D-profile machining for trimming or flange dies. But the technological requirements and implementation issues haven't been defined. In this paper we summarized the requirements and issues of 3D-profile machining. Approximation of input profiles into sequences of line and helical arc is the first major issue. The second major issue is removing cutter interference from the approximated curves holding z-values when the maximum cutter diameter is given. Keeping constant machining width, local machining, path linking problems and several detail technological requirements are also discussed.

  • In the recent years the using of low-density material such as high-strength Al alloy on the various industries is becoming light-weight. High strength and hollow Al alloy is good material for stiffness and recycling. Therefore the advanced manufacturing technology with Al alloy is continuously required in many industrial fields. In this study simplified hallow rectangular section of Al alloy is analyzed by FE analysis. Bending stress is affected punching and rotating of wing-die. The analysis of press bending is preformed at first. The elastic recovery value of component and stress distribution acting from the result of the bending angle of three types were obtained. The designed precesses were analyzed by the commercial FE code, Deform-3D. Forming dies for each process were designed and prototypes were manufactured by the verified forming process. Some of the important features of design parameters in the press bending were reviewed.

  • Hemi-spheroidal punch stretching test was developed to evaluate the press formability of sheet materials. In the plane strain stretching tests our specially designed hemi-spheroidal head punch were used. In the experiment the circular sheet blanks with parallel edge sides are uniformly stretched up to fracture by raising these punches to assure plane strain stretching deformation along the longitudinal direction of the specimens. The press formability was evaluated by limit punch height(LPH) and minor strain mea-surement around the fracture area. Compared with the hemi-spherical punch and the hemi-cylindrical one our hemi-spheroidal punch was more useful in the experimental reproduction and reliance for press formability test.
