A Study on the Settlement Prediction of Soft Ground Embankment Using Artificial Neural Network (인공신경망을 이용한 연약지반성토의 침하예측 연구)

  • Various geotechnical problems due to insufficient bearing capacity or excessive settlement are likely to occur when constructing roads or large complexes on soft ground. Accurate predictions of the magnitude of settlement and the consolidation time provide numerous options of ground improvement methods and, thus, enable to save time and expense of the whole project. Asaoka's method is probably the most frequently used one for settlement prediction and the empirical formulae such as Hyperbolic method and Hoshino's method are also often used. To find an elaborate method of predicting the embankment settlement, two recurrent type neural network models, such as Jordan model and Elman-Jordan model, are adopted. The data sets of settlement measured at several domestic sites are analyzed to obtain the most suitable model structures. It was shown from the comparison between predicted and measured settlements that Jordan model provides better predictions than Elman-Jordan model does and that the predictions using CPT results are more accurate than those using SPT results. It is believed that RNN using cone penetration test results can be a highly efficient tool in predicting settlements if enough field data can be obtained.

A Study on the Causal Relationship Between Electricity Consumption and Output in Manufacturing Sectors of Korea (국내 제조업종별 전력소비와 경제산출간 인과관계 분석)

  • This study analyzed causal relationship between electricity consumption and economic output (GDP) for Korea from 2001 to 2014 employing the vector error-correction model estimation by manufacturing sector. The results of unit-roots tests show that all sectoral GDP and electricity consumptions were not stationary. And cointegration tests show that processed foods, Wood Pulp Paper, electricity apparatus, Precision Medical sectors had a linear combinations in the long run between electricity consumptions and economic growth. With respect to the direction of causality, manufacturing sector has a uni-directional running from economic output (GDP) to electricity consumption in short term. The results of study show that sectoral causal relation were different each other in short term and long term. These findings imply that electricity demand management policy focusing on efficiency improvement is necessary to minimize negative impacts on economic growth and to adopt suitable structural policies can induce energy conservation.

  • 북한의 수자원 현황을 분석하고 미래를 전망하는 일은 수자원 분야 전문가들의 공통된 관심사 중 하나이다. 그러나 많은 노력에도 불구하고 제한된 자료로 인해 이에 대한 체계적인 성과가 구축되지 못한 것이 사실이다(안재현 등, 2010). 북한 수자원 현황과 관련해서 1994년 한국수자원공사의"북한 수자원 현황 및 개발 동향"에 대한 연구와 1996년 한국과학기술단체총연합회의"남북한 수자원 비교평가 연구"가 수행된 바 있다. 본 연구에서는 2012년 7월 북한의 홍수피해에 대하여 북한지역의 빈약한 강우량 정보를 활용하여 위성으로부터 유도된 강우자료를 보정하여 북한지역의 홍수량을 산정하는데 활용할 수 있는 시계열 자료를 생성하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 2012년 북한 홍수피해는 조선 중앙통신 보도에 의하면 6월 말부터 7월말까지 169명 사망, 400여명 실중, 144명 상해의 인명피해와 평안남북도, 자강도, 함경남북도 등 4만 3770여 가구가 침수되었으며, 농경지 피해는 6만 5280정보가 유실, 매몰, 침수(평안북도 2만 3400정보, 평안남도 2만 1900정보, 함경남도 5679정보, 함경북도 7220정보)의 피해를 입은 것으로 보도하고 있다(http://www.hani.co.kr/arti/politics/defense/545795.html). 한편, 북한의 기상수문국 통보에 의하면 2012년 장마가 시작된 이후 20일 동인 평균 강우량의 2배 가까운 비가 내렸으며, 특히 7월 19일 오후 9시부터 21일 오후 3시 사이 자강도 동신군에 413mm, 송원군에 383mm, 희천시에 322mm, 평안북도 태천군에 380mm, 향산군에 312mm, 동창군에 304mm의 폭우가 쏟아졌다고 조선중앙통신은 덧붙였다. 본 연구에서는 위성으로부터 유도된 강수자료 중 GSMaP_NRT자료를 활용하여 북한의 기상수문국에서 통보한 같이 기간의 강수량 자료를 분석한 결과 자강도 동신군 지역의 경우 총강우는 208.8mm로 분석되었으며, 평균강우는 9.49mm, 최대강우강도는 17.7mm/hr로 분석되었다. 두 자료의 총강우량에 대한 상대오차는 약 49.5% 정도의 오차가 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 위성강우 보정 방법으로 Immerzeel(2001) 등은 위성으로 관측된 시계열 자료와 지상계측된 시계열 자료를 분석하여 두 자료간의 평균과 표준편차를 이용하여 평균 및 표준편차 계수를 산정하여 위성자료에 대한 보정강우를 생성하는 방법을 제시한 바 있다. 본 연구에서는 위성으로부터 유도된 강우량 자료는 시계열 자료이나 지점계측 강우는 총강우만 존재하여 총강우에 대한 시계열 자료를 위성강수자료를 무차원화하여 지점계측의 위성 보정강우를 생성하였다.

Advanced Construction Management through an Integrated Information Control Environment (통합 건설관리 환경과 일관된 정보처리 체계의 구현)

  • Construction CALS has been introduced with an aim to improve the effectiveness of construction management in the public sector. The objective of this paper is to provide an approach to implementing an integrated construction management environment. The environment described in this paper provides a methods for the owner and the contractor as well as designers and engineers to interact in a sing control scheme. This interaction represents the collaboration between the contractual parties for sharing construction information. XML technology has been applied as a basic technology for delivering data in the system. The XML-based forms are loaded on the system, whose data are stored in the central database right after review and approval. In future the integrated construction management environment can be further developed to the extend that the contractor's information system is directly interface with the owner's.

A Study on the Permeability Reduction Methods of the Riverbed Ground during Urban Railway Tunnel construction (도시철도터널공사 시 하저통과구간의 지반투수저하 공법에 대한 연구)

  • This paper describes a study on the permeability reduction of the riverbed ground during urban railway tunnel construction. The research is mainly concentrated on the study of the grouting or injection methods among permeability reduction methods which can be adapted in the riverbed ground. Firstly, the various grouting methods are theoretically reviewed and compared based on the previous research papers and case study results. It is also evaluated the grouting methods in view of a safe construction of the river crossing railway tunnel. Baced on the literature review and previous construction data, the design technology of grouting methods considering the long term hydro-geological behaviour in the riverbed, is suggested. Two injection methods namely, Natural Durable Stabilizer(N.D.S) and Space-Multi Injaction Grouting(S.M.I) methods, are introduced as new approach methods which can be adopted to modify the riverbed ground. In order to evaluate the ground that grouted and modified by the N.D.S and S.M.I method, the pilot test programmes including the field and laboratory permeability tests, are carried out in the river crossing tunnel construction sites. The results obtained from pilot test programme, are also reviewed. In conclusion, the grouting efficiency of the S.M.I method using the non-alcalimeter silica sol is better than that of NDS method using cement. In addition, it hopes that the research results are contributed to develop the grouting design technology.

Rapid Education and Training Methodology for North Korean Construction Workers through a Survey (설문조사를 통한 북한 건설노동자의 급속 양성 교육·훈련 방안)

  • North Korea's demand for infrastructure construction and maintenance is growing rapidly. On the other hand, the number of skilled workers is insufficient. Therefore, through a survey of North Korean defectors, this study analyzed the status of construction technology and the difficulties of construction workers. In addition, an attempt was made to derive an appropriate education and training program process and operation plan. As a result of the survey, the reason for the low technical level of construction workers was the lack of skills, lack of motivation to work, and the lack of training and management systems. The appropriate education and training period was 56% of the total response within one year and 36% within six months. Based on the results of this survey, the period of education and training for the rapid training of construction technical personnel in North Korea was adopted as one year. Moreover, compared to the NCS standard in South Korea, appropriate training hours were suggested, excluding training courses, such as planning and design, construction management that require specialized knowledge. Finally, the curriculum corresponding to the education and training courses and the standards for facility names and required areas for facility operation were suggested.

Standardization of the Lease Fee Assessment System of Busan Port Container Terminals (부산항 컨테이너부두 임대료 산정체계 표준화 방안)

  • Private stevedoring companies are leasing and operating the container terminals of the Busan Port. The total amount of lease fees private stevedoring companies paid in 2010 reached 161 billion wons, an approximately 66 percent of the total revenue of the Busan Port Authority(BPA). In other words, lease fees are the most important revenue source for BPA. However, the lease fee assessment system of Busan container terminals goes against the principle of equity due to different assessment methods and criteria adopted by each container terminal. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to analyze the systematic problems of the lease fee assessment system that is used at Busan container terminals, and propose a new standardized scheme with a case study on the new system. In order to standardize the assessment system, the assessment methods need to be simplified by using the Discounted Cash Flow(DCF) method. In addition, the assessment criteria such as assessment duration, discount rates, price indexes, estimated container throughputs, sales unit price per TEU, operation costs, including labor costs, need to be standardized as well. The new standardized assessment system can be applied to estimate lease fees for new terminals. However, for existing terminals to run the new system, factors such as assessment duration, discount rates, price indexes, estimated container throughputs, investment and re-investment costs, and maintenance & repair costs of the new system should be changed slightly.

Experimental Study on Loading Capacity of SY Corrugated Steel Form for RC Beam and Girder (SY 비탈형 보거푸집의 내하성능에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Recently, necessities of steel form for reinforced concrete beam and girder have been emphasized in building structures for the reduction of the construction period and the labor cost. SY Beam was developed for the these purposes and is roll-formed using thin steel plate. On this research, we tried to evaluate and verify the performance and behavior of SY Beam under construction loading stage as like pouring in situ concrete. For the standard shape of SY beam, structural modelling with various steel thicknesses has carried out using MIDAS GEN program. From results of modelling, the width and height of SY Beam were determined 600mm and 400mm respectively. For 3 SY Beams, the loading experiment was performed to measure vertical and horizontal displacement under stacking sand, concrete block, and bundle of rebar. As a result, the vertical deflection showed a tendency to decrease as the thickness increased. In the horizontal displacement, the trend according to the thickness was not clearly observed. From the evaluation on the loading experiment, it is considered that the SY Beam can secure both workability and structural safety. In particular, the SY Beam(1.2mm) hardly generates horizontal displacement, so it has excellent load-bearing capacity. So, we judged that the SY Beam with 1.2mm steel plate has excellent performance and consider to be immediately commercially available.

Experimental Study on Deformation Resistance Capacity of SY Permanent Steel Form for RC Beam and Girder under Casting Concrete (SY 비탈형 보 거푸집의 콘크리트 타설시 변형저항성능에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Recently, to shorten construction periods and reduce labor costs, the need for a corrugated beam form in the RC structure is being emphasized. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the deformation performance of SY Beam, a newly developed corrugated beam form work, during concrete casting. The standard cross-sectional shape of SY Beam was determined by modeling the deck structure of various thicknesses using the MIDAS GEN program. As a result, the cross-sectional dimensions of the SY Beam were determined to be 400mm and 450mm in width and height, respectively. A total of three SY Beam specimens were fabricated using steel plate thicknesses of 0.8, 1.0, and 1.2mm. The load conditions applied during casting concrete at the actual site are reflected. The vertical and horizontal displacements of the SY beam were measured during concrete casting. As a result, the vertical displacement showed a tendency to decrease as the thickness increased. Considering both vertical and horizontal displacement, the case with steel plate thickness of 1.2mm is the safest and most immediately applicable to the field. In the future, to secure manufacturability, constructability, and economics, the optimum steel plate thickness should be derived, and additional analysis and experimental studies for 1.05, 1.1, and 1.15mm are required.
