Fragility Assessment of Agricultural Facilities Subjected to Volcanic Ash Fall Hazards (농업시설물에 대한 화산재 취약도 평가)

  • This paper presents findings from the assessment of the volcanic ash fragility for multi-hazard resisting vinyl greenhouse and livestock shed among the agricultural facilities. The volcanic ash fragility was evaluated by using a combination of the FOSM (first-order second-moment) method, available statistics of volcanic load, facility specifications, and building code. In this study, the evaluated volcanic ash fragilities represent the conditional probability of failure of the agricultural facilities over the full range of volcanic ash loads. For the evaluation, 6 types(ie., 2 single span, 2 tree crop, and 2 double span types) of multi-hazard resisting vinyl greenhouses and 3 types(ie., standard, coast, and mountain types) of livestock sheds are considered. All volcanic ash fragilities estimated in this study were fitted by using parameters of the GEV(generalized extreme value) distribution function, and the obtained parameters were complied into a database to be used in future. The volcanic ash fragilities obtained in this study are planning to be used to evaluate risk by volcanic ash when Mt. Baekdu erupts.

Evaluation of the Structural Behavior Characteristics and Long Term Durability for Transition Track Systems in Railway Bridge Deck Ends (철도교량 단부 전환부 궤도시스템의 구조적 거동특성 및 장기 내구성능 분석)

  • Transition tracks are an alternative for enhancing the long-term serviceability and durability of concrete track components in railway bridges. The goal of this paper is to investigate the structural behavior for transition track systems of railway bridge deck ends. In this study, the structural behavior of transition tracks such as the variations in static, dynamic, and fatigue behaviors and dynamic properties (natural frequency and damping ratio) are assessed and compared through performing loading tests and finite element analyses using actual vehicle impact loadings. As a result, it is found that the structural behavior of the transition track system is expected to satisfy the actual vehicle impact loading, and the variation in the neutral axis and dynamic characteristics are not affected by the fatigue loading. Therefore, it is inferred that the structural capacity and long-term durability of the transition track system is proven.

Improving Assessments of Maritime Traffic Congestion Based On Occupancy Area Density Analysis for Traffic Vessels (통항선박의 점용영역 밀집도 분석을 통한 해상교통혼잡도 평가 개선에 관한 연구)

  • It may be reasonable to consider density per unit area over time rather than analyze traffic volume, which is simply the traffic volume per unit of time, in assessing the maritime traffic congestion of a certain area. This study contributes to the standardization of maritime traffic congestion assessment methods for the maritime traffic safety diagnosis institute while seeking a new method to minimize evaluation error due to converted traffic volume per ship tonnage level. To solve this problem, a method to evaluate maritime traffic congestion by comparing the area occupied by a vessel with the area of its route using vessel identification data from the Automatic Identification System (AIS) has been proposed. In this new model, it is possible to use actual data due to the development of information and communication technology, reducing conversion error while allowing for the evaluation of maritime traffic congestion by route.

  • A theoretical basis for analysis of plutonium-hearing fuel in a thermal nuclear power reactor has been established. The analysis of UO$_2$-PuO$_2$ fueled, light water moderated uniform lattice experiments has been performed. A unit cell program, KARATE, which is based on the theoretical models of GAM and THERMOS with some modifications, has been developed to generate a few-group cross-sections. These cross-sections are subsequently used in the diffusion theory code, KIDD, to compare the calculated values of the effective multiplication factor with the measured. The average value of the effective multiplication factor for 41 selected critical experiments is estimated to be 0.9997 with standard deviation of 0.43%. This illustrates the fact that KARATE/KIDD system can be effectively used for the analysis of uniform lattices of UO$_2$-PuO$_2$fuels.

  • An alternative design method of existing methods based on elastic theory the design method of roadbed considering plastic deformation of roadbed and stress-strain at roadbed materials with the cyclic loading of trains passing. The characteristics of the developed design method considering traffic load, number of cyclic loading and resilience modulus of roadbed materials can evaluate elastic strain as well as plastic settlement with allowable design criteria. The proposed design method is applied to standard roadbed section drawing of HONAM high-speed railway considering design conditions such as allowable elastic and plastic settlement, train speed, the tonnage of trains. As a result, required levels of resilience modulus model parameter ($A_E$), unconfined compressive strength, types of soil material were evaluated.

Flexural Behavior of RC Beam Made of Slurry Infiltrated Fiber Concrete (슬러리 충전 강섬유 콘크리트로 제작된 RC 보의 휨 거동)

  • This paper presents experimental and analytical results on flexural behavior of flexural members made of SIFCON. Twelve SIFCON beams were subjected to bending tests and their flexural behavior was evaluated. Experimental variables included steel fiber type, presence of tensile reinforcement, and height of section. The specimens using Type-B steel fibers, which had better pullout resistance than Type-A steel fibers, showed flexural failure behavior without shear failure. The aspect ratio of steel fiber had a great influence on the behavior of SIFCON beams without tensile steel, however the effect on the behavior of SIFCON beams was negligible. In addition, the flexural strength equation for SIFCON was proposed in the study. The mean and standard deviation of the ratios of the predicted value to the experimental value are 1.02 and 0.04, respectively. Therefore, the proposed flexural strength equation can be useful for the design and performance evaluation of SIFCON beam.

  • Asymmetric Slimflor Beam had been unveiled with Thor beam (Hat beam) in Sweden since the late 1970s and had been developed by British Steen and SCI. In the major advanced countries in Europe after the early 1990s have interested in and developed this method, it has been concrened as the absence of hot-rolled section steel in the United Kingdom and welded of asymmetric section steel in Finland in the 2000s. It can be increase total floor area about 10%, save the interior and exterior materials, reduce the waste through reduction of the floor height. And it has more excellent fire resistance performance because less exposed than a regular composite steel beam in fire. This study is purpose that, a fire resistance performance of the Asymmetric Slimflor Beam in fire, it compared the temperature range with deflection of structure by fire behavior and load ratio of structure through change the shape of the steel cross-section in standard fire condition.

An Observational Study on the Morphological Changes of the External Ear Canal by Converging DICOM Imaging and Design Modeling (DICOM 영상과 설계 모델링을 융합한 외이도의 형태적 변화 관찰 연구)

  • DICOM(Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) imaging plays a significant role in the diagnosis and treatment of the human body, and design modeling is a technology of planning shapes in three dimensions according to the purpose. In this study, we converge these two technologies to observe the relationships of the cross-section, volume, and surface area to the morphological changes of the external ear canal. The experiment applied medical imaging technologies to acquire sections of the human body to create and divide centerlines using 3D shapes extracted from 19 external ear canals by applying stereolithography and 3-matic program. The results showed that the cross-sectional structure of the external ear canal had various shapes, such as oval (38.5%), semicircular (28.2%), mixed (17.9%), square (10.2%), and wrinkled (5.1%). In addition, the cross-sectional area of each phase increased as the length of the external ear canal increased, and the volume and surface area decreased towards the direction of the eardrum. However, the surface area reduction rate was relatively low. This indicates that the structure becomes irregular towards the direction of the eardrum.

  • 국내 해안선을 따라 발생되는 침식 및 퇴적현상으로 인하여 해안구조물의 안정성과 같은 안전 문제가 발생되고 있다. 이러한 자연현상을 대비하여 연안지역 특성에 맞는 침식 저감 대책 마련에 대한 연구가 되고 있다. 침식현상은 다양한 외력조건과 지리적 특성을 함께 고려해야 한다. 고립파로 인한 침식 발생 현상에 대한 국외 연구들이 다수 수행되어 왔으며, 국내에는 이와 관련된 연구가 상대적으로 부족하다. 고립파는 파고의 특성에 따라 파형이 결정되는 특징을 가지고 있어, 침식현상과 지진해일의 실험적 연구에 있어 입사파로 주로 활용되고 있다. 기존의 방법과 동일하게 sluice gate를 순간적으로 개방하여 고립파를 재현하는 방식으로 파랑을 재현하였다. 본 연구에서는 폭 0.80 m, 높이 0.75 m, 수로연장 12.00 m의 강화유리로 설계된 직사각형 단면 수로에서 실험을 수행하였다. 측면에 두 대의 카메라(Model No. : Sony, HDR-XR550)를 고정설치하여 경사면 하상변화를 촬영하였고, 영상분석을 통하여 하상변동을 측정하였다. 유사특성에 따른 하상변동을 연구하기 위하여 경사면에 포설된 유사로는 주문진 표준사($d_{50}=0.6268mm$, $c_u=1.68$)와 안트라사이트($d_{50}=1.547mm$, $c_u=1.387$)를 동일한 실험조건에서 함께 사용하였다. 경사면에서 고립파의 처오름, 처내림을 추적하여 그 경향을 분석하였다. 하상의 침식 및 퇴적구간 길이, 침식, 퇴적의 높이 및 깊이와 같은 형상분석을 통한 영향인자를 함께 무차원화 하여 실험결과를 제시하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 Sluice gate를 이용한 고립파 수리실험으로 경사면 하상의 침식 및 퇴적 현상에 관한 기초적인 실험자료로 활용될 것이다.

Conservativeness Evaluation of Response Acceleration Method used in Seismic Response Analysis of Power Cable Tunnel (전력구의 지진응답해석에 사용되는 응답진도법의 보수성 평가)

  • In this paper, we present the evaluation results for the conservatism of the response acceleration method (RAM), for seismic response analysis of box-type power cable tunnels. We studied 50 examples, considering the cross sections of 25 power cable tunnels, and two soil conditions for each power cable tunnel. A refined dynamic analysis method considering the soil-structure interaction was further employed to evaluate the conservatism of the RAM. The comparison revelated that the seismic responses computed using the RAM were consistent with those obtained using the refined method, since the averages of response ratio (defined as the ratio of the response by RAM to that of the refined method) approached 1.0, and the standard deviations of the response ratio were less than 5%. Finally, we found that applying a load factor of 1.1 to the response of the RAM allowed for a conservative design for seismic loads.
