New Record of Alien Plants, Stellaria pallida, S. ruderalis, and Cerastium pumilum (Caryophyllaceae) (미기록 외래식물 모래별꽃(Stellaria palida), 들별꽃(S. ruderalis), 애기점나도나물(Cerastium pumilum)의 보고)

  • Stellaria pallida (Dumort.) Crép., S. ruderalis M. Lepší, P. Lepší, Z. Kaplan & P. Koutecký, and Cerastium pumilum Curtis are unrecorded alien species of Caryophyllaceae found in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do in the Republic of Korea. Stellaria pallida is readily distinguished from other taxa in the same genus by its petals, as it's considerably smaller than the sepals or absent. In contrast, S. ruderalis is difficult to identify as it has intermediate traits between S. media L. and S. neglecta (Lej.) Weihe. However, S. ruderlais clearly identified by seed morphology, and S. ruderalis, unlike S. media and S. neglecta, has conical shape of outer periclinal wall and papillate on the basely surface of that. Cerastium pumilum is similar to C. glomeratum Thuill. and belongs to the same subgenus (Sub gen. Fugacia); however, it has some distinct characteristics, including stamens that are primarily 8 (5-10), upper bracts with membranous edges, and the length of the pedicels and petals being longer than that of the sepals. The three of alien plants was recorded for the first time in this study, and information of their habitat, distribution map, description and photographs are presented.

Investigation on Korean Local Maize Lines VI. Use of a Korean Local Maize Line for Silage Production (재래종 옥수수 수집종에 대한 특성조사 제6보 청예를 위한 재래종 옥수수의 이용에 관한 연구)

  • Silage yield and nutritional values of a locally collected Korean corn line with high tillering and earing characteristics were investigated at plant densities from 2778 to 8333 plants/ l0a. This line and a non-tillering and nonprolific corn as a check were grown at four plant densities and at three planting dates. The Korean local line abbreviated as MET had the highest dry matter per l0a. The highest dry matter of the MET line compared with the check hybrid was due to the highest dry leaf weight of the MET line. The highest dry leaf weight of the MET line was due to the increased number of tillers of the MET line. Other plant parts such as ear weight, kernel weight and cob weight of the MET line were lower than those of the check hybrid. The dry husk weight per l0a of the MET line was higher than that of the check hybrid, probably due to the increased number of ears in the MET line. The total embryo production per 10 a of the MET line was significantly higher than that of the check hybrid. The increased portion of embryo of the MET line is probably responsible for the higher TON values of the MET line. No interaction between variety x planting dates or planting density was found, indicating that the MET line and check hybrid were both the same in effects of planting dates and densities. Both line and hybrid showed the highest dry matter production when the planting density was high and planting dates was early. When silage was made from either MET line or check hybrid the nutritional values in terms of crude protein, crude fat, fiber, and ash contents of the MET line were similar to those of the check hybrid. But the TON of the MET line was higher than that of the check hybrid, while the OCP of the MET line lower than that of the check hybrid. Amino acid contents of the MET line were also comparable to those of the check hybrid, while lysine content of the MET line was 10% higher than that of the check hybrid.

Growth Habits of Scirpus planiculmis F. Schmidt in Poldered Paddy Field (간척지(干拓地) 우점잡초(優占雜草) 새섬매자기(Scirpus planiculmis F. Schmidt)의 생육습성(生育習性))

  • This studies were conducted to get the basic information on the growth habits of Scirpus planiculmis F. Schmidt for control in poldered paddy field. The distribution of corm was about 16% in 0-5cm, 66% in 5-8 cm. 18% in 8-10cm depth of underground. The mean depth of total corm distribution was about 6.51cm. Number of rhizomes and dormant buds per corm were one to four, respectively. Number of rhizomes. dormant buds and total buds(rhizome+dormant bud) were 2.34, 2.85 and 5.20, respectively. The phyllotaxy of S. planiculmis was 1/3 and bracteal leaf were showed from first to 4th leaves. The period of propagation to 100 plants from emergence was 58.52 and 48 days for corm seeded on March 25th, b4ay 7th and June 6th respectively. Days to emergence of S. planiculmis from emergence of previous plant was gradually shorted. as order of propagation from corm seeded progressed. The other side, length of rhizome, plant height and diameter of culm was increased. The plant height of S. planiculmis was higher than rice plant from early stage in rice direct seeding culture, and from 30 dats after transplanting in rice transplanting culture. Speed of propagation was faster in rice direct seeding culture than in rice trasplanting culture.
