  • Predicting the deformation behaviors of sheets in thermoforming processes has been a daunting challenge due to the strong nonlinearities arising from very large deformations, mold-polymer contact condition and hyperelasticity constitutive equations. Nonlinear numerical analysis is always required to face this challenge especially for realistic processing conditions. In this study a 3-D algorithm and the membrane approximation are developed for thermoforming processes. The constitutive equation is expressed in terms of the 2nd Piola-Kirchhoff stress tensor and the Cauchy-Green deformation tensor. The 2-term Mooney-Rivlin model is used for the material model equation. The algorithm is established by the finite element formulation employing the total Lagrangian coordinate. The deformation behavior and the stress distribution results of 3-D algorithm with various point boundary conditions are compared to those of the membrane approximation algorithm. Also, the slip boundary condition and the no-slip boundary condition are applied for the systems that have molds. Finally, the effect of sheet temperatures on the final thickness distribution is investigated for the ABS material.

  • Adsorption equilibrium experiments for the phenol on granular activated carbon(16~25 mesh) and powder activated carbon(325 mesh) were carried out at $25{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ and the results were expressed with Freundlich isotherm. Adsorption rate experiments were executed in batch adsorption system under the condition that can be neglecting mass transfer resistance at the external surface of the particle. The results were analysed with the Miller's method to evaluate the linear driving force(LDF) adsorption rate constant. Fixed bed adsorption experiments were performed by adopting different flow rates in the activated carbon-phenol system at $25{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. The theoretical breakthrough curves were estimated with the simple constant pattern solution. The adsorption rate constant of LDF model was not a fixed value but variable with adsorption amount. The experimental results were better agreed with the estimation of breakthrough curve using the variable adsorption rate constant than the results estimated using the average fixed adsorption rate constant.

  • In this study, polysulfone-Escherichia coli biomass composite fiber (PSBF) was prepared by spinning the suspension of PS and E. coli biomass and amine-methylated PSBF (AM-PSBF) was fabricated through the methylation of amine groups in PSBF. As comparing the adsorption characteristics of basic dye, Basic Blue 3 (BB3) by the PSBF and AM-PSBF, the effect of the methylation of amine groups on BB3 adsorption was confirmed. pH edge experiments showed that the BB3 uptake of PSBF and AM-PSBF increased as pH was increased and the BB3 uptake of AM-PSBF was higher than that of PSBF at the same pH. Both of PSBF and AM-PSBF was reached at equilibrium within 5 h and kinetic experimental data were well fitted by the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. By the Langmuir model, the maximum adsorption capacities of PSBF and AM-PSBF at pH 8 were evaluated to be 28.9 and 20.7 mg/g, respectively. The maximum adsorption capacity of AM-PSBF was enhanced 1.4 times comparing that of PSBF. These results indicate that the methylation of amine groups in PSBF leads to the improvement of BB3 adsorption capacity. In addition, the results of desorption experiments revealed that AM-PSBF was repeatedly reusable.

  • CFT column has a lot of structural advantages due to the composite behavior between in-filled concrete and steel tube. This paper deals with the development of an effective numerical model which can consider the bond-slip behavior between both components of concrete matrix and steel tube without taking double nodes. Since the applied axial load to in-filled concrete matrix is delivered to steel tube by the confinement effect and the friction, the governing equation related to the slip behavior can be constructed on the basis of the force equilibrium and the compatability conditions. In advance, the force and displacement relations between adjacent two nodes make it possible to express the slip behavior with the concrete nodes only. This model results in significant savings in the numerical modeling of CFT columns to take into account the effect of bond-slip. Finally, correlation studies between numerical results and experimental data are conducted to verifying the efficiency of the introduced numerical model.

  • The geothermal research has been carried out on the Heunghae, Pohang geothermal area know as having geo-heat-flow area in the Korean peninsula. This study results so far indicate that geothermal water in the area is in peripheral waters of hydrothermal area and is not in equilibrium with the reservoir rock. The average oxygen and hydrogen stable isotope values are as follows: deep groundwater $(average:\;{\delta}^{18}O=-10.1\%_{\circ},\;{\delta}D=-65.8\%_{\circ})$, intermediate groundwater (average: $(average:\;{\delta}^{18}O=-8.9\%_{\circ},\;{\delta}D=-59.6\%_{\circ})$, shallow groundwater $(average:\;{\delta}^{18}O=-8.0\%_{\circ},\;{\delta}D=-53.6\%_{\circ})$, surface water $(average:\;{\delta}^{18}O=-7.9\%_{\circ},\;{\delta}D=-53.3\%_{\circ})$ respectively. Deep groundwaters was originated from a local meteoric water recharged from distant, topographically high mountain region and not affected by the sea water. High temperature zone inferred from water geothermometers is around D-1, D-5, D-6, 1-04 well zones. The estimated enthalpy from Silica-enthalpy mixing model is near 410 kJ/kg, which corresponds to the temperature of $98^{\circ}C$, and in consistent with the result of Na-K and K-Mg geothermometer.

  • Carboxymethyl-${\beta}$-cyclodextrin (${\beta}$-CMCD), as a biodegradable surfactant with hydrophobic and hydrophilic properties, has potential advantages of being applicable to the simultaneous treatment of multiple contaminated soils. In this study, the desorption behaviors of r adionuclides such as cobalt (Co), strontium (Sr), and cesium (Cs) from the soil contaminated with them were experimentally investigated and the effectiveness of CMCD as a desorbent was evaluated. The desorption equilibrium of used radionuclides could be achieved within 1~3 hr and the desorption ratio from kaolin was higher than that from natural soil. The addition of CMCD of 2 g/L increased the desorption ratio by 5~20 % and the desorption ratio of used r adionuclides was shown in the order of Co > Cs > Sr. The experimental desorption data were fitted successfully by pseudo-second order kinetic model and the desorption rate of the r adionuclides was shown in the order of Cs > Co > Sr. Hysteresis between adsorption and desorption of the r adionuclides, as shown in the order of Sr > Co > Cs, increased as the desorption rate decreased. Consequently, it could be considered that the desorption rate was one of the significant factors of the hysteresis. The addition of CMCD as desorbent increased the amount of desorbed radionuclides and decreased the hysteresis. However, the CMCD could not completely desorb the radionuclides from soils even though the excess of CMCD was added.

  • Biosorption is considered to be an alternative method to replace the present adsorbent systems for the treatment of metal contaminated wastewater. In this study, by-product which was abandoned from brewing factory was used to remove metal component in aqueous solution. The experimental results showed that the range of the removal efficiency is 60~91% and adsorption equilibrium was reached in about 3 hr. FT-IR and stereo microscope has been used to observe the surface conditions and changes in functional groups by calcination. At the end of elution, the amount of nitrogen and phosphorus in water was increased 11 and 7 times compare raw sample to calcinated samples. The Langmuir isotherm adequately described the adsorption of waste materials and the maximum adsorption capacity was 28.17 mg/g for Cd. The overall results suggested that waste material might can be used for biosorption of Cd.

  • The number of Aged Apartment units is expected to increase as time went on. Living standards are getting better and they want a new apartment space as the economy progresses. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare for the increasing remodeling market through the feasibility evaluation method that can be applied to the remodeling project of the apartment house. The purpose of this study is to analyze the social pricing factors affecting the Officially assessed individual House Price for the analysis model of commercial house remodeling. The collected samples were analyzed using multiple regression analysis of 350 prices included in 127 lots. Middle school level, high school level, total number of households, and floor area ratio were extracted. As a result of comparing the Officially assessed individual House Price by applying to the remodeling case, the difference between the existing Officially assessed individual House Price and the improvement Officially assessed individual House Price is different. The accessibility with the subway station is included in the land price, and there is no change in the number of stories and directions because it is customized remodeling. There was a difference in the disclosure price depending on the type of factor extraction by the evaluator in a batch application of the disclosure price factors. The research can be used as a model for future remodeling business feasibility analysis.

  • The moisture sorption isotherms of corn powder prepared from corn kernels roasted for 20 min at 160, 180, 200, 220, and $240^{\circ}C$ were determined at $20^{\circ}C$ using the static gravimetric method over the range of water activities ($a_w$) of 0.11~0.90. The moisture sorption isotherms showed a typical sigmoid shape, and the equilibrium moisture content tended to increase with increasing $a_w$, and increased sharply at above 0.75 $a_w$. At above 0.53 $a_w$, the equilibrium moisture content of the roasted corn powder increased with the increase in the roasting temperature. Six mathematical models (Bradley, Caurie, Halsey, Henderson, Kuhn, and Oswin) were used to fit the experimental data. The Oswin, Caurie, Henderson, and Halsey models were found to have suitability for describing the sorption curves, and the Oswin model was the best fit model for all the roasting temperatures. Concerning the monolayer moisture content, the Guggenheim-Anderson-Boer (GAB) equation showed high significance. The monolayer moisture content increased as the roasting temperature was increased, to 0.043 and 0.053 kg $H_2O/kg$ solids in the corn powder roasted at $180^{\circ}C$ and $240^{\circ}C$, respectively. These results suggest that the roasting temperatures of the corn kernels affected the moisture sorption characteristics ($20^{\circ}C$) of the corn powder.

  • This study investigated children's (grade 3 to 9) responses to assessment items on energy as a cross-cutting concept in order to get basic information for a learning progression. The assessment consisted of 8 ordered multiple-choice items at the contexts of electric circuit, mechanical energy of falling objects, phase change of matter, dissolution, biological phenomena of a lizard, food chain, radiative equilibrium between Sun and Earth, and the system of water cycling. Children's responses to each item were analyzed with using cross-tabulations in terms of grades and item option levels and Wright map and Differential item functioning based on Rasch modeled item response analysis. The results offered empirical evidence of children's development of understanding energy from relation between energy and its phenomena, types of energy, transfer and conversion of energy, towards conservation and equilibrium of energy for all of eight contexts. Children of each grade did not fully understand energy conservation. As grade goes up, their understandings of energy transfer and conversion were differentiated across the contexts and topics of energy. According to Rasch analysis, children had easier understanding of energy on dissolution and poorer understanding of energy on water cycling than that on other contexts. It was discussed and suggested that the results of this study help us organize science topics with regard to energy when developing new national science curriculum.
