  • In order to analyze accurately the vibration of a structure by using the finite element method (FEM), we have to model a analytical structure as a numerical model with many degrees-of-freedom. However, in this case, the FEM needs much computation time and storage. The authors developed the finite element-transfer stiffness coefficient method (FE-TSCM) for overcoming the drawback of the FEM. In this paper, the authors apply the FE-TSCM to the in-plane vibration analysis of general plates with various shapes. Two numerical examples, a rectangular plate and a triangular plate, are used to compare the results of the FE-TSCM and the FEM. Through the numerical calculation, we confirm that the FE-TSCM can be applied to the in-plane free or forced vibration analysis of the general plates with various shapes and is effective to in-plane vibration analysis of general plates.

  • In direct contact power transmission from primary driver to a secondary follower system, one of the important problems is the vibration transmission. In some applications the reduction of vibration level at the follower as low as possible is utmost important. The magnetically coupled power transmission system is often used for this purpose. In this paper, we report the results of a study on the nonlinear torsional vibration transmission characteristics of the rotating system with face-type magnet coupling. The equation of motion is solved analytically up to 3rd harmonics. The frictional force of the sliding bearing which is used to support the follower shaft is considered as the damping term. Numerical calculations are carried out by the Newton-Raphson method, and the calculated results are compared with the experiment for face-type magnet coupling. The experimental result shows that the reasonant frequency of the magnet coupling is very low and is in good agreement with the theoretical result when the average damping constant per unit area of the sliding bearing is 0.5kg*f*sec/cm$^{3}$.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the vibro-acoustic characteristics of a stiffened rectangular plate at high frequencies. The stiffeners attached along the plate surface were assumed to have rotational and translational stiffness and inertia. The harmonic response of the stiffened plate were predicted and compared using the Rayleigh-Ritz method with two different trial functions - polynomial and beam functions. The variation of the spatially averaged mean square velocity and the modal characteristics with the number of stiffeners were obtained. The use of the beam function ensured fast convergence which was essential for analyzing the high frequency vibration responses. Using the calculated modal characteristics and the Rayleigh-integral, the radiated sound power was predicted, and the effects of stiffeners were investigated. The proposed model can be applied to study optimal layout of stiffeners for minimal noise generation of the stiffened structures.

  • The paper describes the formulation for the analysis of the flexural free vibration of rectangular plate structure by the transfer influence coefficient method, which was developed on the base of the concept of the successive transmission of dynamic influence coefficients. For the analysis of rectangular plate which two opposite sides are simply-supported edge condition, the results of simple numerical examples demonstrate the validity of the present method, that is, the numerical high accuracy, the high speed and the flexibility for programming, compared with results of the transfer matrix method and exact solution or Leissa's method.

  • Finite Element Method is a strong tool to analyse static and dynamic problem of a structure. FEM is a good method for static problem, but for dynamic problem there are some differences between real phenomena and analyzed phenomena. Therefore some modifications are needed to identify two results. In this paper authors propose a genetic algorithm method 1) to adjust dimensions of plate for identifying natural frequencies, 2) to fit amplitude of FEM Frequency Response Function(FRF) onto it of real FRF. Analysis by raw FEM data gave questions if the results were for the same object. By only adjusting Young's modulus much better accordances were obtained, but limitation existed still. Very good agreements were achieved by shape modification and damping coefficient identification.

  • Strategically, the Patrol Killer Medium (PKM) ought to run at high speed that produces largely vibration by propeller, in a consequence, the vibration gradually deterioratescrews' working condition and increases the possibility of SONAR detection. In this paper, we propose the propeller damper, which is one of waysto reduce the vibration induced by the propeller, and simulate the ability of the damper numerically. The propeller damper was designed to apply to an isolated plate at the bottom flat board of ship which is directly affected by the fluctuating pressure. The dynamic pressure for the stern part of the PKM is calculated by using the DnV rule and the numerical analysis when the propeller damper applied or not, is performed with ANSYS at the isolated plate that simplified. From the analysis, the damping effect of the proposed propeller damper is confirmed and the reduction ratio for each compartment is estimated based on the experimental data in the PKM.

  • One promising method for impact detection of composite structures is based on the use of piezopolymer thin fim (PVDf) sensor. In this paper, the relationship between the contact force and the signals of the attached strain gage and PVDF sensor to the composite plate subjected to low-velocity impact were derived. The relation for the open circuit and short circuit voltage of PVDF sensor was derived based on the equivalent circuit model of the piezoelectric sensor. The work was then extended to include experimental investigation into the use of short circuit voltage of PVDF sensor without using charge amplifier to detect low-velocity impact. The natural frequencies and damping ratio of the composite plate obtained from the vibration test were used to modify the analytical model and therefore the differences between measured and simulated signal of the modified analytical model in both forward and backward problem were considerably reduced. The reconstructed contact force and simulated sensor signals agreed well with the measured contact force, strain gage signal, and PVDF sensor singanl.

  • In this study, a submerged plate-type breakwater is considered, which is supported by elastic foundation. This breakwater makes use of wave phase interaction among the incident, diffracted and radiated waves. We apply a three-dimensional singularity distribution method within the linear potential theory in order to describe the wave field. The submerged plate is assumed to be rigid and the elastic support be a linear spring with constant stiffness. A typical rectangle plate is exemplified for numerical calculation. The thickness of the plate is carefully selected in order to guarantee the solution to be stable by checking the condition number of the system matrix. A parametric study is carried out for examining the effect of the stiffness of the elastic support on performance of the breakwater. We also examine the effect of the submerged depth.
